the anointing

Lol @ you've heard Joyce Meyer roasted black over cooked.

I was actually slain in the Spirit, at least twice. Once I was out for a while but came back up right as I was needed (I was helping to make a Christian TV show)

I certainly won't vouch for any televangelist's individual act being real or fake, one way or the other

im not saying its not possible the spirit can do as it wants i just aint found it in the Bible

I heard a radio interview of Benny's son, so I'm aware of at least a little of your unstated concerns.
I just want to issue a broad, general warning (as a believer, not as a moderator) to be VERY cautious about what we say against ministers. Even those we disagree with. Scripture gives us the broad guideline that if Christ is preached, don't oppose them. In our day that can be very difficult! It's so easy to point fingers at thus and such, for this or that. And there are LOTS of "thuses and thats."

I still see this as a very stern rebuke:

"Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?
Jhn 21:22¶Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me."

Isn't Jesus saying Peter had already stopped following Him just to be able to ask the question? I think so. Gamaliel also instructed not to oppose "the Way," for fear of opposing God.

Lots of people today do the work of an Evangelist, and proclaim Christ, and Him crucified. I don't want to be found opposing God, but that doesn't mean I'll support a ministry I think engages in poor stewardship.

Many mistakenly believe that it is wrong to expose error and to name the guilty teachers; but they are wrong according to the Bible. All these scriptures below are God's anointed calling out by name and exposing those who forsake the cause of Christ for worldly living and pleasures. If we are going to call them out we had better be positive of our claim. Only God can judge the intents of the heart, but we can judge them by their fruit, Matthew 7:15-20.

Romans 16:17; Ephesians 5:11; 1 Timothy 5:20; Titus 1:10-16; Gal. 2:11-14; 2 Timothy 4:10-15; 3 John1: 9-11; Numbers 22-25; 2 Peter 2:15; Jude 1:1; Rev 2:14; 2 Samuel 12:7

The term "slain in the Spirit" is found in Numbers 22:31; 2 Chronicles 5:14; Ezekiel 44:4; 1:28; Matthew 17:6; John 18:6; Rev 1:17.

When you are in the presence of God's Holy Spirit it can cause your body to go limp as the Holy Spirit engulfs you. It's the greatest experience one could ever have.

i have my doubts these scriptures being slain in the spirit .. no place in scripture does it say the laid hands on you and you fell out. nor does it say you need someone to catch you or cover the person up who allegedly was slain.. this term slain in the spirit is a man made term. i have been engulfed in the spirit never fell out. God is not the author of confusion. i have no doubt the spirit can put you down but not the way i seen it in church services .i have seen it several times

You can either believe the scriptures or carry doubt of what they say. No one has to lay hands on you, although this does happen at times when the one laying hands on you is also under the anointing of the Holy Spirit. As far as catching a person in a gathering is for the safety of the person as not to get hurt, but yet the Holy Spirit would not let that happen. Covering a woman is for the purpose if they are wearing a dress that there lower parts will not be exposed to others. Not everyone who is engulfed falls out, but many like myself do as the anointing is so strong you just can not stand. I remember a time when I fell out in the afternoon hour as the Holy Spirit was doing a major work in me and never got up until it was dark outside as all was finished. I've been engulfed in the Spirit many times and never fallen to the ground and other times I do very easily.

if the Holy spirit is in it .then it will be done decently and in order .i will respect your belief and you have every right to them . but i do disagree with the scriptures you gave. there is no concrete evidence of being slain in the spirit .i have seen them rocked back and forth hands laid on popped in the fore head imo nothing more than SHOW OF THE FLESH .i seen a guy take off ruining and smack the wall .the spirit does not do that

Jhn 18:4-6
Jesus therefore, knowing all things that would come upon Him, went forward and said to them, “Whom are you seeking?”
They answered Him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “
I AM**.” And Judas, who betrayed Him, also stood with them. Now when He said to them, “I AM,” they drew back and fell to the ground.

** ἐγώ εἰμί (ego eimi); I AM is the mane of God which He gave to Moses at the burning bush.

Rev 1:17 And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, “Do not be afraid; I AM the First and the Last.

These types of things are for show and have nothing to do with the Holy Spirit. Many are led by emotions, not the Holy Spirit. Even the Roman guards went backward and fell to the ground when Jesus said "I am He", John 18:6. Unless one experiences this one can not understand it. All those scriptures I gave use the words, fell to the ground. I can't make you see it or believe it, but it is written. I have experienced it as well as many and is a wonderful thing to be in such a glorious presence. It has no bearing on ones salvation, but does bring you to a place of what I like to call, the holy of Holies as once you are there you do not want to come back.

yes this happened once again i am not denying that. but it does not say slain in the spirit nor was there a catcher nor was any of these saved i realize i probably disturbed a hornets nest .but its where i stand

I could tell you about an experience I had in a revival tent that was not too different from this. Does anybody remember RW Schambach?

it does not say slain in the spirit
Of course it doesn't.
"Slain in the Spirit" is a modern, English, charismatic/Pentecostal "Christianese" term.
But it is a good description of what happened to John on Patmos when he saw the Lord.

It's also fair to say that the practice of laying on of hands, catching people as they go down (often to protect bystanders as much as anything else) covering people up etc is all "tradition;" that oh-so-objectionable word Protestants are taught to hate about Catholics.

Pot, meet kettle.

We all learn to do things a certain way. Most people fear to be creative, doing something they've never seen anyone else do. And anything we've ever done, we've done "in our flesh." I am very familiar with the phrase and the good intentions behind it, but fear of it can also cause us to quench the Spirit, grieving Him. "The Spirits of the Prophets are subject to the Prophets." IOW, we can decide we aren't willing to fall. (And anybody can do it just because they want to pretend, and God has nothing to do with it)
