it seems no one knows - it is in scriptures more than once - twinc

Well John called himself the disciple whom Jesus loved?
when all the others ran away with fear only John stood with the Lord!

1Jn 4:16

And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
1Jn 4:17

Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
1Jn 4:18

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
1Jn 4:19

We love him, because he first loved us. :thumbsup

He was no more loved than the rest! "He believed" and understood the Love that Christ had for him!

You might say his heart was open to "love"? This was the difference!
Do you have another view, be glad to hear it!:-)

:yes:amen:yes--the beloved john understood the Love of Christ more than most :study

is that really so - how about "lovest thou me more than these others" asked of Peter and Jesus wept on the death of His disciple Lazarus and those around said "see how He loved him" - twinc

What is your point? Jesus loved all the diciples, He loves us all with a endless love!
Some receive that love, and live by that love! Some seem unable to grasp how He loves and have a harder time when trials come! John stood with the Lord on that day! Peter failed because he tried to stand in his own strength! remember his boasting, "They all may leave you Lord, but I will not" Then he denied the Lord three times, that was why the Lord restored him with three questions of love!
John stood the test, because he was sure of the Lords love for him!

You did not ask a question! You made some point that only you seem to be able to understand? Again what point are you trying to make?

Please, make clear your point?:wave

Scriptures refer to "the beloved disciple" and also seems to point out beloved of Jesus and Mary - who was he and why was he in particular beloved - twinc

I have already answered that:-)

Here it is again!

The point of Lazarus is the same! We who know His Love will be raised from the dead!

NO Read the scriptures. blueletterbible.org - search for the word love and read all the New Testament scriptures telling you how much God/Jesus loves you.

The only time this phrase "beloved disciple, the disciple who Jesus loved" is in the Bible is in the Book of John, written by John.

John, knew how much Jesus loved him. Not any differently than He loved the others.

I believe Jesus gave his mother Mary to John for exactly that reason. He knew that John knew what love is.

Until we know how much God loves us we will not know how to love others as we should. God's love for us changes us. It makes us more compassionate, caring, giving, etc. So because John understood this love better than most Jesus could trust Him with His mother.
