Has the use of Paper bible gone oldfashioned?

A bishop bans the use of Ipads, androids, ebooks etc in the church....claiming they distract the users - who may end up doing other stuff on the Net.

Are you for or against such a seemingly drastic move/resort. I'm a huge fan of electronics. So save for the claim that one could be tempted to go online and do other stuff would you recommend an absolute use of e-stuff?

No the paper Bible is not old fashioned. No additions or substitutes are required in fact they are very dangerous.I guess if it is the Holy Bible that you are looking at on line that is ok.
Revelation 22:19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away[a] his part from the Book[b] of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Frankly, if that "bishop" bores people so much that they start surfing the web, then they might be getting more out of doing that than they would have, forcing themselves to try and listen to him. And he might think about giving the job to someone who actually has the gift of teaching.

Personally, at home, I always try to buy a hard copy of any books or commentaries I use. For me, study is MUCH more effective if a book is used, rather than a kindle or a phone.

However, in church, I use a Kindle reader because we have a dark building, and I can see the screen better than a book. (I do use white letters on a black background, however, to keep from distracting other people.... that bright, white background can seem like a flashlight to other people.)

I have e-sword download on my PC and Olive Tree on my Nook. I love them both.
In church having an electronic Bible is awesome. Highlighting passages and making notes is easy and can be clearly read. I look at my paper Bible and some of my notes in the margins are faded and can no longer be read. I've also used yellow note pads but later there you are trying to find where you made those notes from a year ago.

Electronic Bibles, :biggrin2

Honestly, I do not see electronic versions completely replacing paper versions of the bible. At least not in the near future.

That being said, I see no problem with people using electronic formats of the bible. Actually, they are quite useful, and many of them allow you to search the scriptures faster than with the paper format.

Amazing replies. What happened to the traditional scrolls? Replaced by today's paper bibles? Maybe the electronic stuff would work better

The Dead Sea scrolls were copies of book from the OT.

I really like being able to download commentaries and other books, too. My old Matthew Henry is a good 4" thick and has the tiniest print. My eyes aren't as good as they used to be.

The paper Bibles we are used to are not old fashioned... yet. Paper books are likely to be with us for generations to come, but it is not unlikely that they will eventually be replaced by other media, such as ebook readers, just as parchment scrolls replaced clay tablets and were later replaced by paper books.

Our Bibles are ink and paper it is not the ink and paper that matter it is what they say.

Did our John really see scrolls in heaven? :confused

Yes, they were e-scrolls that are made of thin, flexible plastic material that you can download books on similar to the way you would use a Kindle or Nook.

Do they also make e-parchment? Or e-papyrus?

I won't use electronics to look up the Bible references during church services because even if that's all I'm doing it might look like I'm not paying attention.

But for Bible study groups or where they expect you to use electronic Bible apps anyway (ie, "if your Bible is on your phone use that"), I'll do it.

You must be fast. I can bring up a scripture online three to four times faster than I can, turning pages.

Two or three times a year, our preacher will interact with the congregation by asking for us to text him questions as he is speaking.
