The Biblical Meaning of Clothes
For those who wonder what is the biblical significance of man wearing clothes, it is simply man needing a savior – Jesus Christ- to cover over our sins. In order for man's sin to forever be forgiven God, in the person of Jesus Christ, had to clothed himself in our humanity and die for our sins on the cross.
Clothes represent God clothing himself in our humanity in the person of Jesus Christ, God's son, to save us from our sins. God gave up his son to save us all from our sins when his son became man.
Mankind give up his nakedness in the Garden of Eden when he sinned and sought the comfort of clothes, which God provided. God then gave up his son and clothed him in our humanity to bring the comfort of salvation to all those who accept it. God has always comforted man!
When God created man he was naked. Nakedness is symbolic of man's total dependence on God for everything. When man sinned he ran and hid for his eyes were now open and he could see that he lacked the ability to care for himself without the aid of God.
The lies from the serpent that got man to sin were that man would not die for his disobedience but instead he would become God. The truth would turn out to be that man would not die for his sins for God would have to become man as Jesus Christ, not man becoming God but God becoming man.
While Jesus Christ will forever be clothed in our humanity man will forever be clothed in Jesus Christ's forgiveness. Both man and Jesus Christ will forever be clothed as an eternal sign of God's love for us. Accept Jesus Christ as your savior and clothe yourself in his forgiveness and gain life eternal in heaven with God.
