Wisdom comes not only from words written in a book, or for that matter not even just from words written in the pages of scripture. It comes from the One who wrote the word of God, and Who still speaks to us today when we give ourselves to hearing His Voice, and receiving His teachings through the Spirit sent to teach us all things (John 14:26).

I agree that wisdom on matters of Christianity come from God alone.
But His wisdom can be relayed by holy men of God, and their writings.
Wisdom on gardening, or car repair, may come from self-help books though.

There was a time in my life I would have argued against that truth. But not today. I have learned, much as Solomon did, that man's wisdom is pretty worthless as it regards our being able to help ourselves with how our minds work. Wisdom is, of course, all about our minds and our thinking.

Hey All,
I would add that wisdom comes from making mistakes.
If I make a mistake, and I learn from it, I will be better equipped to not make that mistake again.

Example:

"Does this dress make me look fat?"

Now am I supposed to tell the truth here?
Because the truth will cause a bigger problem.
And I don't want to hurt feelings.

So wisdom says deflect but still tell the truth.

Me: "You look fabulous to me no matter what you wear."

I told the truth and I got a kiss for it.

Wisdom is cool.

I believe Gods knowledge comes through His spirit naturally, but it also can come through diligent asking. I understand Gods nature because He is very simple minded in His approach, its people that make God complicated.

Its characterized by love, humility, and focus on eternal values. Often appearing foolish to the world standards. Because the flesh is driven by pride. The apostle paul condenmed the wisdom of the world, for it is those who live according to earthly wisdom and who despise, and reject Jesus, 1 Corinthians chapter 1:1 to 1:30. Mans wisdom finds its roots in jealousy and selfish ambition. Carnal minded people can't understand humility and divine wisdom. James chapter 3 tells us, pride and selfish ambition is demonic. Verse 15 , the qualifier, unspiritual, is earthly. Means, earthly refers to to mind set that does not consider God's sovereign rule. It's false faith. True faith from heavenly wisdom. Here's the truth.
1 Corinthians chapter 2:12 to 2:14. Wisdom comes from the holy Spirit. Which a Christian is very fortunate to have. Many people have Spirit of error or stupor. 1 Corinthians chapter 12:8. The holy Spirit gives people the word of wisdom and word of knowledge. Carnal minded people without holy Spirit don't accept things that come from the Spirit of God, but consider it foolishness, and can't understand, 1 Corinthians 2:14. Natural senses attribute to carnal minded people. The flesh is in opposition to the Spirit. James chapter 1, carnal minded people are not doers of the word. It's lack of faith. Romans chapter 11:7. What then? Israel bath not obtained that which he seeks for, but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded. 11:8. God has given them Spirit of slumber. God can give understanding of take it way. These are the spiritually dead. Reprobates resist holy Spirit, and have a unclean Spirit, 2 Corinthians chapter 4 and Romans chapter 1. Two different groups. The election are the third group. If you still have difficulty understanding. I recommend shepherds on you tube. There are videos on Spirit of slumber and election.

There is spiritual wisdom and earthly wisdom that comes from Godly wisdom.

Example, Richard Dawkins rejects Godly wisdom, but in calling himself a "cultural christian! '' he is adopting wisdom from God. He values the moral teachings of Christianity, not realising that without the root of belief the flower of morality dies.

An aside. When talking with nonchristians about the world and they make moral statements challenge them as to where they get their basis for morality from?

Either way friend. I documented it. Reprobates, non believers, have unclean Spirit, 2 Corinthians chapter 4, and can't understand deep truth of Gods word, because they are devoid of holy Spirit. There wisdom is earthly, and not of God.

Romans chapter 11. The spiritually dead have Spirit of slumber. And without holy Spirit, they can't understand deep truth of Gods word, 1 Corinthians chapter 3. They are babes on milk, infants. The holy Spirit, and mans wisdom have no connection. I respect other Christians opinions and beliefs. Whether we agree or disagree, we can still be friends.

13 Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. 15 This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. 17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. 18 And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

I guess these verses have to do with the results of worldly and godly wisdom. Worldly wisdom leads to jealousy, ambition, and strife, and eventually to disorder and evil acts. And how could it not? What is the nature of worldly wisdom?

This is contrasted with godly wisdom and its results. People with godly wisdom should act well, their conduct should be above reproach, something other NT passages also say. Where worldly wisdom leads to jealousy, ambition, and strife, godly wisdom leads us to be gentle, reasonable, merciful, fair and just, peacemakers. The fruits of our work will be good fruits.

Where can this godly wisdom be found? I'm very cautious about ideas like "look inside yourself", as the Bible is clear that our hearts are wicked and untrustworthy. God has spoken to us, and we have His words. The Bible has books of wisdom right in the middle--Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, the Song of Solomon. Those would at least be good places to start learning wisdom.

Where can this godly wisdom be found?

Through the study of the bible and the living of a Christian life style.
The truly wise know Jexus as their saviour and seek to be like his character, to do what pleases him,and what honours him.

James does say if anyone lacks wisdom they should ask God for it.
But li,e everything in the Christian life, this often means working at what we want to achieve.
