I was supposed to be asleep, but then I saw those colors in my eyes and my brain wouldn't let me not try to go on Google and see if I could find out what they were.

I apologize if this isn't the right place for this thread. I haven't even viewed the science forum in forever. But I do recall seeing some more casual subjects like this one here in the past, just not many.

Thank you for the link and Praise the Lord for answering a question I've had for years, ...wondering if I was the only one that sees colors when my eyes are closed.

Sometimes it's green, sometimes white, sometimes red, ...and sometimes it a kaleidoscope of colors.

I see them all the time. I just don't pay attention.

The ones I see when I go to bed are always purple disks surrounded by a thick border of yellowish-green. They are large and get smaller as if they're moving away, pass by almost like blood cells.

Phosphenes can by generated by simple pressure on the side of a closed eye, as Newton discovered, but they can be generated by closing one's eyes in a dark room and waiting. A few minutes of darkness will begin to show colors and shapes that change, and are to some degree under one's conscious control.

I've noticed that they tend to be more elaborate and patterned when I'm under stress.

WOW an admission :tongue
don't make me sick jaci on you.seriously, I try to nap whenever I can. I did get in a few hours today. I do see colors at times and just don't care.

what used to drive me nuts were floaters... don't see 'em much anymore unless I have a headache...

I have one of those in each eye that seem to have always just been there. I've been seeing them since I was a kid, but not sure if the ones I have now are the same as the ones I had then.
