Hi, :shadescan I come out?
Yes, I just found out, there is a denominational gap.
That means we of different denominations just happen to have some different beliefs.
I don't know how that happened but it did.

Anyway, I decided (with help from a friend) that we should discuss this denominational gap here in the lounge over tea (and scones of course).
I have another idea!
Let's do it in love ( that way no one will hurt my feelings, or my friends').

I'll go first.
I'll tell you about my denomination and then you can talk about yours and we'll see if we can bring us all together in love.
Sound good?
I thought you would agree.
So let's go!

I am part of Calvary Chapel, based out of California.
The founder, Chuck Smith died last month.
Evangelist Greg Lourie has his church in California.
Some of these congregations are quite large.
Mine is in Inverness, Florida.

Calvary Chapel is technically not a denomination but an association.
They have a basic doctrine but each church runs independently.
Therefore, from one church to the next, they may be very different but with a common bond that ties them together.
We believe in preaching the truth of Gods' word and living it.
We are an evangelical church, reaching out to our community and the world as God provides.
You must be born again.
We believe in the Gifts of the Holy Spirit but also an orderly worship.

Sola Scriptura.
Be ready to back up your beliefs with Scripture.

Now, if others can express their denominations and then we can discuss our differences (in love) and see what we come up with
You can be sure that our mother here on the forum will supervise.
God bless you all.

cav chapel also is known for verse by verse bible reading/teaching.

they also tend to have a ton of radio ministries. do you get this station in your area?

reach fm?

I attend a Fundamental Baptist Church. We drink coffee and eat donuts. I've heard of tea (sweet of course) but what's a scone?

Grew up in an AofG home... the only church i ever held membership in was baptist... I hope some day we can enjoy members of His Body with out noticing the denominational tag.

wait that would boring, who would argue about tounges, end times and baptism.lol

I am sure a knuckle head would show up...
Dad an AofG pastor was very ill he could not remember us My Baptist pastor came to the hospital to visit and they had a great time.. rejoicing in the Lord

I don't belong to a denomination...there are too many differences and the association can be harmful. I've spent most of my life in some form of SDA church, but we have our very CLEAR and IMPORTANT differences. The only reason I attend is because I go to church on Saturday, the 7th day.

Denominational gaps don't bother me as long as people aren't militant.

My doctrines are primarily baptist, with some nondenominational slants.

I believe in the basic fundamental doctrines, namely:
-Biblical inspiration and the inerrancy of scripture as a result of this
-Virgin birth of Jesus
-Belief that Christ's death was the atonement for sin
-Bodily resurrection of Jesus
-Historical reality of the miracles of Jesus

I take a literal view of the Bible.

The church I attend now, a Southern baptist church, I feel like they do more to reach out to the community. More than my old church, at least. And I like being able to be a part of that.

Being raised in an independent fundamental baptist church has left me with a pretty strongly fundamental view on doctrine. However, I don't agree with a lot of what the IFB churches' other opinions anymore and tend to agree more with the Southern baptists. That said, I don't tie myself down to one denomination. I consider myself nondenominational, as I am willing to consider or at least learn about other views on doctrine.

questdriven:

In the end, defining and refining our personal positions is all about the Scriptures and what they teach, rather than he said/she said, right? :)

Blessings.
