The Devil's Music, Do You Agree ?

I agree. Generally it's the lyrics, not the music, that count.

Jason, I believe you mean, "Come Together." :yes

Did you guys listen to the link given by Lewis? This is only the music without any lyrics... and it's mood is melancoly and almost becomes a durge. Very death or funeral-like. :yes

I think it IS possible for music to be demonic, whatever the lyrics. Because the enemy takes everything good that God has given and pollutes it into his evil design. :shame
Though for Christians who are walking with Christ I do not see a draw on thier souls in hearing this music, because they will hear it's evil intent. Only those unsaved and backslidden are subject to it ~I think.

However, I have also heard Chirstian bands turn popular rock music into godly music by changing the words... THAT is COOL! Taking back the territory stolen by the enemy! :D

But let's get some more opinions on this, my understanding is limited~ only my family are "music people" not me. :shades

I only believe it is the lyrics and not the music that does this.

Come on guys! :nono

It's the SPIRIT behind the music that makes it bad or good! :yes

walter i agree that's why i put those converted songs as an example

It it also in the way you listen to the music, I love electric guitar and the way some heavy metal bands use the break in the lirics so that the lead guitarist can let rip! This got me listening to bands such as Judas Priest and Iron Maiden when I was younger and not a true Christian. I agree the way we interpret the lirics of a song can lead us away from God and in the way we feel when we listen to a song can lead us away from God. I noticed the link specifically aimed its issues at main stream rock and metal bands yet I have seen and heard some real satanic bands that sing their songs in the same spirit we sing our worship songs to the Lord our God yet they sing theirs to Satan. Walter I think you hit it on the nail when you said it is in the spirit behind the music, both lirical and musical.

I think it may have to do with the appearance that the music sounds evil. The guy at the Jesus is Savior website definately uses a lot of music that sounds evil. However, I don't think that if it sounds evil that it is necessarily evil.

As for changing lyrics in songs, I'm for and against it. It's great to hear melodies that we like with a better message, but sometimes the source may not be the best to take it from. I don't think it would be best to take songs written by Marlyn Manson, and have those turned into christian songs, although it would definately be funny to see how the artist would react! Imagine if your a complete bigotted anti-christian, and your making all these demonic songs just for someone to christianize them!

I dont think its evil, however if I am listening to some hardcore alternative christian music it almost pumps me up and would be easier for me to get in a fight if I am listening to that with somebody on my bumper while driving or looking at me hard, and I will say I definitely cant get spiritual with it like I do with slower christian music or gospel music. I cant really feel peace with it like I do to normal christian music and I could not tolerate it in a church setting either. Really the only time I listen to hardcore christian music is when I am working out because then I can go crazy on the weights or the treadmill, but to say its Evil or the Devils music....nah. I think it just really depends on the individual. Somebody who has been through alot of change who once was short-tempered and who could have got in a fight quickly like myself it may not be the best music to listen to that it may arouse attitude or a negative temperament. Christ's holy spirit has changed me so much that I could just about always resist acting quickly to wrath, its amazing. I should not try to bring back alive what once has been put to death, the old man. I am a new man now. I need peaceful music to help keep me calm and help me get on fire spiritually, but everyone is different.

Man there seems to be a lot of rock music = evil in these forums...what is this? 1980?

Some unknown tribal village could be found in a random rain forest, and they could be playing a scale no one has ever heard on their own homemade flutes.. and a Christian would think it sounded evil.

That's just the way it goes.

Not all Christians feel this way.

what and non christains dont do that? i have seen other people they are not into jesus talk trash bout other musics style while think that there wasnt just as trashy, i'm comparing country to rap. in country it ok talk bout being divorced and cheatin while in rap it's ok to talk about cop killin and drug use and the sexual escapades. no, i'm not saying one shouldnt listen to this music, i just dont think it edifies, that's why i dont listen to it anymore. it used to me that some music(secular) was ok, not these days it getting harder to listen to even the adult contempory stations.

just my pov.

The lyrics are important. However, I don't think that every single song by Christian artists needs to mentions Jesus or God in order to be considered Christian music.

I can relate to Christian musicians who sing about their stories, when they were not living for God, and how God drew them in, closer to Him, through circumstances ....

I've been on this particular site a number of times in the past, the 'music' being played in the link is not 'metal'. It is the page authors home made 'background music'. He purposefully created it to sound the way it did to have an aural background setting to enhance his agenda of the 'evil rock' (& that goes for CCM too) concept. This individual's site is dedicated to standing in judgement, & using sensationalism in the name of God. His apparent stance is 'if its not offending its not of God'. He enjoys taking things out of context, & making things fit his agenda. He boldly & unabashadedly slams & criticizes nearly every facet of Christian beliefs. I'm not talking 'shares an opinion', i'm talking 'i'm right, & if you disagree you're a heathen sinner & going to hell'.There is not a single ounce of love or compassion to be found anywhere on his page. Only a decree that you agree or burn in hell.
Also, did you bother to read the whole page? This person is either a good old fashioned pharisee, or a fake looking to get attention... lets look at some of the 'devils music' this link refers to...
Rebecca St James.... "MercyMe is an enemy of God"... Crystal Lewis... Johnny Cash... DC Talk... TobyMac... Michael W. Smith... "Jars Of Clay are of the Devil"... Tries to label Amy Grant as a member of the Occult... does the same with Third day... oh & Michael W Smith again, supposedly Occult... Sandi Patti... Michael English... Carman... Newsboys. According to this site all of those artists are singing 'devils music'.
I am Not going to take an opinion from a man like this, not even on the smallest of issues.
