Read the words of Matthew:

From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matt 4:17 RSV

For those who have repented of their sin, is it not time to begin the eternal celebration?

What if their celebration is premature because they did not see their sin?

The Lord instructs us what to do. If you have done what he has asked you to do, and if he tells you to celebrate, then you would do well to celebrate.

But I have not sold all that I own and given the money to the poor.

But I have not sold all that I own and given the money to the poor.

We’ve all given money to the poor, and you need to hold onto the things you need to survive.

Avoid sexual unchastity, insobriety, and pride. Love the Lord with all your heart, mind, and soul, and love your neighbor as yourself. Do these things and you will be fine.

As scripture says to even look at a woman to lust upon her is adultery I find the words that Jesus said to be words of faith. For men it is impossible but for God anything is possible.

Insobriety. As scripture speaks of drunkeness as in excessive, I consider the term relative. For he who drinks should not judge him who drinks and he who does not drink should not judge him who doesn't drink. Scripture says Princes and rulers should stay sober but let the poor man drink to forget his poverty.

Pride goeth before a fall so how will I see it coming?

Love God with all your heart mind and soul and your neighbor as yourself. There will be much gnashing of teeth. When will I know that I have done these two great commandments and is it even safe to assume I do them?

No, we are not allowed to look lustfully at anyone (other than one’s spouse).

Actually, I don’t think the Lord wants us to drink at all.

Well Paul thought it was okay. When the Apostles on the day of Pentecost were accused of being drunk, they replied it was yet too early to have been drinking. Jesus said he was considered a drunkard and a glutton for drinking and eating by those wicked minds who also called John the baptist crazy because he neither ate nor drank.

Generally speaking, we can live by a few rules. However, an uncountable number of situations can come up, and the two great commandments cover all these situations. Otherwise we’d need millions of rules.

Avoid acting selfishly. When you fail to do this, the Lord will probably bring it to your attention. I don't think we were meant to lose lots of sleep over this.

I didn’t say you can’t drink. I just said that, between you and me, I don’t think the Lord wants us to drink. Perhaps there are times it is a lesser sin than the sin we might commit if we didn’t have a drink.

Easier said than done. How do I not take pride in my humility?

I think pride is the way you behave, not the way you think. If you always behave humbly, then I think you have succeeded. What is in your mind is your own business, I think.

I suppose drinking is not considered a hobby. Thank God my wife is not so ugly I need drink lest I commit a greater sin.

I don’t have a wife and I don’t drink. I have struggled, I’ll admit, but I am only happy when I resist the various temptations.

Of course I know you never implied that I can't drink. For the sake of the liver alone it is a bad thing. My point is to say there exists an accuser no matter what you do.

You don’t attack me like so many have done. Do you have a good heart?
