I think pride is the way you behave, not the way you think. If you always behave humbly, then I think you have succeeded. What is in your mind is your own business, I think.

I think pride comes from the vain notion that we make ourselves according to our own volition. Hence we take God for granted and become unthankful.

Of course I know you never implied that I can't drink. For the sake of the liver alone it is a bad thing. My point is to say there exists an accuser no matter what you do.

Satan will always accuse us, no matter what we do, I think. If we obey the Lord's commandments, we can ignore Satan.

You don’t attack me like so many have done. Do you have a good heart?
A good question? I honestly can only answer not as good as some but better than others. Least ways I do not even like to compare such things since I have what heart God has given me as does everyone else. If I have more, then more is expected of me.

I think the Lord wants us to enjoy glory, but glory is earned through righteousness, not obtained by boasting, power-mongering, social climbing, etc.

I don’t have a wife and I don’t drink. I have struggled, I’ll admit, but I am only happy when I resist the various temptations.

It takes a while to learn that all temptations are empty expectations that cannot be fufilled. That is the nature of lust.

We choose to behave as we do. If I am a jerk, it is because I chose to be a jerk.

Respectfully, the commandments are all good, but dying in Christ is all about dying to one's self. I therefore am doing well when Satan attacks and look forward to both his accusations and temptations, for they only verify I am on the right path.

When one is in sin, Satan can enter that person’s mind and cause him to worry excessively. When we repent of our sin, Satan has little “ammunition†to use for this purpose.

AHHHH, but that righteousness is found in knowing we are unrighteous without God's eternal Spirit of Love which we cannot take glory for. When a liar says he is a liar he is then righteous before God allbeit a liar. We must depend upon His mercy. And our ways must be merciful towards others if we are to obtain mercy.

If you are a liar, it is good to confess that to the Lord.

I think the next step, though, is to stop being a liar.

The scripture says the deceived go on deceiving and being deceived. A liar therefore does not always lie on purpose for he thinks he is speaking the Truth. Hence Jesus said the eyes are the lamps of the soul. He who has good eyes will be filled with light, but if that light is darkness, how deep is that darkness. The term blind is used. For the blind leading the blind all fall into a ditch. We all on this forum simply argue what this blindness is. You are one who will say the blindness is disobedience of God. I will say it is distrust toward God and therefore not a proper esteem of His character.

Two issues:

I find that life can be a nightmare when I sin, but when I don’t sin, my problems vanish. Therefore, I put obedience to the Lord at a high priority.

As for distrusting the Lord, are you referring to people who believe the Lord will torment us forever?

I surely can understand that. Obedience is the objective if you want to have life. Of course all problems vanish when we trust God and obey Him therefore. After all He made everything. He ought to know.

I am saying that trusting God precedes sincere obedience. While it is possible to obey, it is yet possible to take credit for such obedience rather than attribute it to God's trustworthiness. It would be like the prodigal son coming back to his Father's house saying, "I decided to give you another chance Dad". This is not the right spirit to come to God with.

Perhaps you have given me something to think about here.

I do have complete faith in the Lord.

That doesn’t mean I always give him the credit he deserves.

I don't feel comfortable saying all problems vanish when you obey God and leaving it at that. I would add to that the caveat that it is often true that in this world contary to God, one is punished for good deeds.

When one trusts the Lord, then it is hard to find anything to worry about.

And it’s much easier to trust the Lord if we have repented of our sin.

I do believe this is what is being said here:

From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matt 4:17 RSV

I believe we are in heaven when we are not sinning.
