The Gospel of Grace

Malachi

Member
Acts 20:24
But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

Even though the New Testament is crystal clear about what the Gospel is, there seems to be confusion in the minds of Christians about the Gospel. It is called THE GOSPEL OF THE GRACE OF GOD for a very good reason, therefore it must always be preached or shared as such:
1. The Gospel of Grace proclaims that there is a Gospel only because of God's grace. Preaching is proclamation of the Gospel.

2. If the Gospel is solely because of God's grace, then the sinner can neither add to nor subtract from the Gospel.

3. The grace of God is accessible to sinners soley because of Christ and His finished work of redemption. No one else can be attached to that one perfect sacrifice for sins for ever. No work of righteousness can improve on that finished work of Christ.

4. Since Christ died for the sins of the world, the Gospel is for the world of sinners -- no one is excluded from God's grace.

5. Salvation is a GIFT freely given by God to the sinner who repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ. Nothing else can be added to this justification by grace through faith. No sacraments can add to this grace.

6. The evidence of genuine salvation is obedience and good works. Therefore the first step of obedience is water baptism by immersion.

7. Baptism symbolizes that the sinner has died to his old sinful life, and been resurrected to "walk in newness of life". Old things are passed away. Behold all things are become new.

Even though these are elementary and fundamental truths, too many Christians are confused.

The Gospel IS grace, period. Or is there another Gospel we should be teaching?

Malachi,
How were OT saints justified?
How did OT saints obtain eternal life?
Do you believe OT saints were saved by grace?

Excellent, that is what people need to hear, ...nothing can be added to that!

Malachi,
How were OT saints justified?
How did OT saints obtain eternal life?
Do you believe OT saints were saved by grace?
Once you define "grace", you have answered all three questions.

Malachi,
How were OT saints justified?
By grace through faith in God as well as the Lamb of God. Abraham said that God would provide HIMSELF a Lamb. While on the surface he would be appearing to speak of a literal lamb, prophetically he spoke of Christ. Thus "Abraham rejoiced to see my day" said the Lord.
How did OT saints obtain eternal life?
As a GIFT of God's grace. They waited in "Abraham's bosom" until the resurrection, at which time they received the gift of eternal life and became "the spirits of just men MADE PERFECT" (Heb 12:23).
Do you believe OT saints were saved by grace?
Absolutely. See Gen 6:9 & 7:1. Noah was just and righteous being justified by grace, and having Christ's righteousness imputed to him, just like all Christians.

Willie,
The concept of grace is foreign to humanity. Even Christians do not fully understand grace.

"There is no free lunch", also means there can be no free offer of eternal life from God. Preposterous! It must cost the sinner something. And the fact that it did cost Christ everything is simply dismissed. Thus we have many Christians groups adding "works" to grace for salvation (including baptism). Israel believed they could establish their own righteousness by the works of the Law, even though the Gospel was preached to Israel in the wilderness (Heb 4:2).

The other "forgotten" aspect of grace for Christians is the fact that God the Father gives the believer literally everything that belongs to Christ as a "joint-heir with Christ" (Rom 8:17). Too many Christians have no idea of their true position is Christ after salvation. Too many preachers have no idea either, therefore they do not proclaim this truth loud and clear.

You kind of sound like you are preaching against yourself. You sure confused me with that post.

Grace is great when I receive it, and because of vanity, it seems unfair when I don't.

Some semantics: Scripture implies that you can't be good of your own flesh will, so be good and believe that.

Could you explain a little further what you mean by "receiving it" or "not receiving it?"
I didn't mean rejecting it when I said not receiving it. I mean that God chooses the lowly things.
1 Corinthians 1:28King James Version (KJV)
28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

I took your first post, Childeye, to mean that sometimes you are given grace, and sometimes you aren't. That is what seemed puzzling to me. I'm thinking you and I might be seeing "grace" as different things.

This sounds like a good discussion to have.
I think people are divided by semantics all over this forum.

I see. Assuming grace is unmerited favor, I'm saying some people receive grace and some don't, just as some see Christ as the glory of God and others see Christ as foolishness, according to God's wisdom and plan.

Agreed. I wanted to see where you stood on grace in the OT, as a few other members here do not believe as much.
