The Great Image.

Q. What is the meaning of the Great Image?

One night king Nebuchadnezzar was given an amazing dream by God. He wanted his wise men to tell him the dream & the interpretation. This they could not do. Finally Daniel seeking God was able to tell the king the dream & the meaning.

`You, O king, were watching; & behold, a great image! This great image, whose splendour was excellent, stood before you; & its form was awesome.` (Dan. 2: 31)

The Great Image was of a man. Each part of the man, the head, chest & arms etc represented a World Ruler. The first four are history. God has judged them & they have all gone. There is only one more World Ruler to come.

The Great Image.

  1. Head – Babylon. (Dan. 2: 38)
  2. Chest & Arms – Medes & Persians. (Dan. 5: 28 – 31)
  3. Belly & Thighs – Greece. (Dan. 8: 21)
  4. Legs – Romans. (Luke 2: 1)
  5. Feet – Final World Ruler. (Isa. 31: 8)
Thus the Great Image is a pictorial overview of the World`s Gentile Rulers from Babylon right through to the final World Ruler. Daniel explains to the king that `a stone` then struck the feet of the Great Image & `broke them into pieces.` The meaning being –

`....the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; ` (Dan. 2: 44)

This kingdom that God will set up is His earthly kingdom through Israel. They will rule the nations of the world with mercy & justice.

When one understands who the lion, bear, four wings of the leopard and the iron are of Daniels interpreting the dream then one can understand that of 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12 and Revelation 13, especially the one whose deadly wound was healed and survives even today, but yet in secret that will be revealed in the end of days.

Hi fhg,

I agree, yet we understand those beastly powers as different.

However this is the Great Image thread. care to discuss that?

I am trying to discuss the image of the beast and how it has worked through all four Empires.

This beast system that Satan works through started with king Nimrod being the first king of Babylon. It's still that same image that has carried throughout all four Empires that gives its power to the beast out of the earth as the beast out of the earth appears as the Lamb of God, but is a false Christ being the son of perdition, 2 Thessalonians 2:3-12, with two horns. The two horns represent the Old Roman Empire that received its deadly wound back in 1798 by General Berthier who made his entrance into Rome and abolished the Roman government and established a secular one. That caused them to scatter into the other ten nations (ten horns). The wound was healed in 1929 by Mussolini and known in scripture as mystery Babylon the great whore described in Rev 17 and 18.

It`s just that you mentioned the 4 beasts of Dan. 7 when we are talking about Dan. 2 Great Image. I think we need to address the Great Image and what is described there before we jump to Dan. 7 if that is ok with you.

We have not discussed the 5 parts of the Great Image yet and what God is showing just there.

I am trying to describe that great image of Daniel 2:31-45 as the great secret of the image was given to Daniel by God in a night vision. In vs. 38 Daniel tells the king that he is the head of gold, meaning the king of Babylon (the first Empire) and then continues to show him three more kingdoms (Empires) that will arise, one after the other in what will come to pass as each one will destroy the one before them. In vs. 44 Daniel explains that God will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed like these four kingdoms.

This great image is also described in Daniel chapter 7 and 8 that Christ will destroy when He returns in the clouds by the spirit of His mouth and the brightness of His coming, 2 Thessalonians 2:8.

Thank you fhg,

I agree that Babylon was the first world ruler, then Medes and Persians, then Greece, then Rome. All in God`s word and we can see by history as well. God judged all those rulers, those governments and they are no more.

However there is still the last part of the Great Image to come - the Divided kingdom. And God`s word tells us about that also. This divided kingdom, (feet and toes) had the greatest emphasis and the most extensive description. This is the fifth power which was predicted to hold world dominion in the time slot when God terminates the world systems.

Daniel was specifically directed to minutely focus on the feet and toes of the gigantic (eastern) figure and to completely disregard the intervening two thousand years.

`There stood before you a large statue.` (Dan. 2: 31)

It is obvious that the whole image was standing on these feet in the immediate vicinity of King Nebuchadnezzar. (see picture). Elementary and necessary, of course - yet of immense importance. The feet were thus firmly centered in the Middle East ie. before the King of Babylon.

In fact the centre of gravity for each of the delineated sections of the image was directly over the same place. A significant metaphoric illustration which indicated that, as with each of it predecessors, the centre of authority in this final confederacy, must be located in and operate from the Middle East.

It is an established and undeniable fact that, right from the demise of the Roman Empire, the Middle East has been the focal political and religious centre of the Moslem world.

The prophetic calendar has been programmed for centuries. The Middle east has returned to the centre of the international stage in the precise time-slot predicted.

I’ve always heard the feet, clay and iron, was the centuries after the Roman Empire where their mixing of peoples ruled by the Pope. The rock, Christ, struck them and went on to become the biggest thing in the world, Christianity, a kingdom that has no end.

The idea that Israel would rule the world was what the pharisees believed. The apostles thought so too until Pentecost. Then they never mentioned it again.

Just thought I’d mention another view of the image.

Here is the divided kingdom of the feet and toes.

The Roman Empire began in 753BC by Romulus who founded Rome in 27BC with Augustus Caesar becoming the first emperor of Rome in 27 BC and died in 14AD. Rome controlled over two million square miles stretching from the Rhine River to Egypt and from Britain (England) to Asia Minor which made up the Grecian Empire of Greece, Turkey, Syria and Egypt. In 146BC the Romans destroyed Corinth during the Battle of Corinth and made the Greece Empire into a province of the Roman Empire. This timeline goes from 753BC to 27BC. Nero burned Rome in 64AD and blamed the Christian community in the city causing the Roman Empires first persecution of Christians. In 1453 was the rise of the Ottoman Empire that conquered Constantinople destroying the Byzantine Empire (Eastern Roman Empire) that reigned from 330AD to 1453AD. The Roman Empire was divided into an eastern half and a western half (feet and toes) in 285 CE by Emperor Diocletian. It was the Emperor Constantine in 330CE who moved the capital of the Roman Empire to Byzantium (Constantinople) in the Eastern Empire.

The Roman Empire was then called the Holy Roman Empire that was a political entity beginning in 800AD - 1806AD from the time of Charlemagne (Holy Roman Emperor) who protected Pope Leo III from Adrian's supporters in Rome to Francis II, King of France. Pope Pius VII was the Pope from 1800-1823. The Roman Empire is known today as Vatican City, a city-state surrounded by Rome in Italy who has diplomatic relations with every nation around the world.

Where the statue was standing in the vision would be in Babylon which is now present day Iraq, Iran, Greece, Turkey Syria, Egypt and Rome as depicted by the head, breast arms, belly thighs, legs and feet, which all represent the four Empires of Babylon, Medo-Persian, Grecian, and Roman Empires.

Have you ever watched any of ’The Bible Project’ vids? I find them both enjoyable and instructional. They often offer added historical context that’s valuable to consider.

Here’s one on the Book of Daniel- spend 9 minutes.

I've never heard of them. But, it does take looking up the history of certain things pertaining to the OT in order to understand things like the great image.

While I agree with the importance of considering history to color one’s understanding, I don’t necessarily align with your interpretation. Within the book of Daniel- the understanding God gave him speaks of four kingdoms, not five. The first- Babylon, the second was the Medes and Persians, the third Greece as you mentioned, but the fourth with those legs of iron and feet of mixed iron and clay refer to a single fourth kingdom- one that is partly strong and partly brittle... a divided kingdom scripture says, and a mixed people without unity among them.

While it’s not mentioned specifically, we can surmise that that kingdom is Roman because the text tells us that it is at that time (of that fourth kingdom) that God sets up His kingdom and we know that this occurred at the time of Christ- while Rome was the dominant power. This is the final kingdom referenced in the account in Daniel 2, there is no talk of a fifth and yet to come kingdom.

Those 4 empires were all judged by God. There is no scriptural evidence that Rome will be revived.

That is all history but NOT scripture. Lot of events happened after God judged Rome but they are NOT world empires. There is still one more world ruler to come. And we are seeing the forming of that.

Rev 13:1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.
Rev 13:2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
Rev 13:3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.

I gave a brief history in post #10 of this revived Roman Empire whose deadly wound was healed and also asked that you read chapter 13 from the book I wrote on Revelation that is found in the subforum titled "Revelation" here in the End time forum as it goes into greater detail.

I never said anything about five kingdoms as there are only four as you mentioned. In post #10 I described the divide of the feet and toes as being the divided Roman Empire.

Scripture and history goes hand in hand when we study the deeper things of God's word, especially in the study of end times. I agree that there is still one more world ruler, but he stems out of the revived Roman Empire.

Yes, I should have made that more clear- I was referring to Marilyn C ’s opening post, but also this idea of a fifth, or yet to come kingdom. It’s an erroneous idea.

Daniel describes a succession of kings, one after another- Babylon followed by the Medes and Persians, followed by Greece, followed by another not mentioned by name that ‘history’ informs us was Rome. The kingdom of God was set up in that era- “in the time of those kings” as Daniel puts it. That kingdom isn’t coming, it’s here.

Jesus came and taught us that the kingdom had already been established, was already near and here, and that it was found within. That it wasn’t like the others, just as Daniel had foretold, that it was one that would never be destroyed because it wasn’t ‘of human hands’ and that this ‘rock’ would bring those other kingdoms, all other kingdoms to an end. It says nothing of a revival.
