The Human Spirit

Alright forumers...before the ball completely leaves the pitch (all replys are still valid). I was actually trying to ask, (I may have reiterated, sorta) the spirit, soul and body exist. The body ends here. The spirit and soul proceed to the next level: the heavenlies. Which (sould or spirit) stands before God at judgement day, soul or spirit? Let's assume any of these. It seems the spirit/soul is without contamination - and is always perfect. How can this stand before God (and even if the spirit/soul was that of a sinner <body>)

I'm probably ranting here....and maybe not concentrating. Maybe am so happy about the game we won;) Alavés 0:3 FC Barcelona

Our spirit is that new creature , the spirit born of God, quickened by Jesus and indwell by the Holy Spirit and "made the righteousness of God, in Christ". Our soul is being transformed as we grow in the Lord. When we go to the Lord our soul is completely transformed to be as it should be in agreement with our spirit. So both spirit and soul are right with God and can stand before Him. There is a scripture in Revelation I believe that addresses this but I will have to search for it.

This is the quickening that Jesus did in us when we were born again a new creature in Christ.

quicken = zoopoieo = Gk Strong's 2227
1) to produce alive, begat or bear living young

2) to cause to live, make alive, give life

a) by spiritual power to arouse and invigorate

b) to restore to life

c) to give increase of life: thus of physical life

d) of the spirit, quickening as respects the spirit, endued with new and greater powers of life

3) metaph., of seeds quickened into life, i.e. germinating, springing up, growing

Jesus said we were a new creature in Him. Was your body made new? NO Was your whole thought and emotional state made new? NO So that leaves your spirit, the spirit that was made ALIVE IN CHRIST. The new creature, the place where the Holy Spirit can dwell in us. Walk in the Spirit not in the flesh. Does this mean don't walk with your flesh body? NO Don't walk in that fleshy soul that was corrupted by the world and susceptable to the deception and tempting of satan. Renew your mind by the word of God, put on the mind of Christ. The soul needs to be renewed to the mind of Christ. The soul is being transformed by the Holy Spirit and this transformation will not be finished until we go to be in the presences of our Lord.

I agree with you

Is our sinful souls one with the Holy Spirit?? Impossible.

Once you're born again in the Holy Spirit, the spirit ONLY convicts you of righteousness, correct? But if you're not saved you're still in the bondage of sin, correct? For example, if our spirit is ONE with the Holy Spirit and not our souls as you say..what if your mind told your conscience to take drugs, what if our emotions told our intuition to commit adultery AFTER WE'RE SAVED. Are we not responsible for our actions even after we're saved? Does God not Judge your spirit/intuition and soul/emotions for that. Is being convicted on earth and being judged at his throne after we die two different things?

You're forgetting that not everyone here is born of the Holy Spirit yet. This here is meant for unbelievers and the one's who lack Faith, they are not aligned with the Holy Spirit just yet, in order to be aligned one must repent first. All it TAKES is one from either soul or spirit to be sinful, one follows the other. Sin is sin no matter where it's coming from. Are these things not connected to your brain, heart, spirit and soul..

The Nature of the Holy Spirit is will, mind and emotions
The Function of the Holy Spirit is conscience, intuition and communion

I should have been very clear about this. We are only made righteous in spirit and soul because of the imputed righteousness of Christ to us. This righteousness has absolutly nothing, in anyway shape or form, to do with our own efforts or works. It is only by the work that Jesus did for us at the cross that we can stand before God. We are justified only by the blood of our Lord.

But your efforts or works are different than doing drugs and committing adultery after you're saved because it does happen...nobody is perfect.

Yes, the Holy Spirit convicts the believer of righteousness BUT NOT our righteousness, the righteousness of Christ. It is stated very plainly why, "because I (Jesus) go to the Father and you will see me no more." He prompts us to look at Jesus, behold Him and see righteousness, how righteousness behaves, talks, LOVES. He says look at your Savior, Redeemer, Lord. He has put His Spirit in you and made you a child of God, the Creator of the Universe, the Holy and Just God.
But sometimes we don't listen to that still soft voice of God speaking through the Holy Spirit.
I'm not sure how to respond to your example. I know I had a conscience and intuition before I was born again I believe that is how God made us, man right from the beginning. You know the whole golden rule and mother's intuition (knowing instinctively that something was wrong, like an urgent warning of impending danger). But I didn't knowledge God and that my wrong doings were a sin against God.
If we look at 1 Thes. 5:23 in the Greek we see that soul is the word (psyche) and spirit is (pneuma). Paul used a different Greek word. He did not say, and psyche and psyche or pneuma and pneuma so we know he wasn't repeating the phrase for emphasis. He was talking about two different things.
Think about the english words we derive from them. Pneuma in say Webster does in include the definition of the soul as well but when we look at what is says about the actual Greek, it simply says breath, wind. I think of Acts and the Holy Spirit.
Can the Holy Spirit influence my mind and emotions, surely, if I let Him, if I don't ignore Him. If you let your emotions lead the way in anything you are taking a big chance. Not that emotions are bad, quite the contrary. But they must line up with Jesus or they are not to be considered. In our minds we can contrive all kinds of sin walking in the flesh if we allow it but our spirit follow suit?
I think you just need to dig into the scripture and let the Holy Spirit teach you.

As for the people in these types of threads, I personally believe most all are Christians. They are born again with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Many have walk faithfully with the Lord for many years. They know their scripture and I respect their views and many times I have been lead by one or another to dig deeper.

But your efforts or works are different than doing drugs and committing adultery after you're saved because it does happen...nobody is perfect.

I think if I go into this I will be going off the topic of the thread started by the guy I think used to be the basketball head. LOL
So if you were to start a thread about sinning after salvation I could discuss it with you. But you would be asking the prodigal daughter so probably you would be better off asking one of the long time faithful ones. I personally would consult with Davies. You could PM him about your thread and ask him to participate.
I know what I believe to be true but you will find him to be a very knowledge and strong man of God.

Hi Classik, I posted this on your other thread about where do we spend eternity and thought I would post it here also. The soul and the spirit are connected, but separable. The soul is the essence of humanity’s being; it is who we are as in our character. The spirit is the aspect of humanity that connects with God and that is where the kingdom of God is in our spirit that connects to God through being Spiritually renewed, born-again according to John 3:3. Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. John 3: 3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? 5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
Alright. Thanks

Thanks to all...and Deb, thanks for your contribution. (It seems to me there is a part of the 3 that can't be controlled by man)

We will all leave our bodies behind as we depart this sinful earth. How about the human spirit? That means the human spirit can't be contaminated with sin. This spirit will stand before the Almighty in the day of judgement. Right? Does it mean the human spirit is the (or 'a') pure and perfect part of man??? How about the soul?

Losing our earthly bodies doesn't mean we didn't sin. However, I think we are all in the process of learning not to sin.
