The ultimate goal of this thread is to understand....the moon turning to blood on the day of the Lord. This subject, as many others, doesn't stand alone so to fully understand it is necessary to address connecting topics.
Genesis 1:3-4 And God said, "Let there be light;" and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day (day one.)
Notice how the same subject is given in the same chapter and verse number of Genesis and 1 John. By chance? This light is not the sun! Another witness that tells us what that Light is can be found in.....
Genesis 1:14-16 And God said, "Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth:" and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: He made the stars also.
John 1:1-2 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.
1:4-5 In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
1:6-9 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, Which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
1:12 But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name:
Jesus is the Light and that Light dwells in us If we receive Him. As Jesus is the Light....who is the darkness? Who are those that darkness dwells in? And what do they have to do with the moon turning to blood?

- 1 John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of Him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.

- Revelation 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

- We as children of the light are ruled by the "greater light." There are other children. :verysad
John 1:1-2 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.
- 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us
1:4-5 In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
- If we receive that light, His life, then we live. We are spiritually alive. We are, or will be, "as the lightening (shining) cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be." [Matthew 24:27]
That is the body of Christ shining over the world. That is us. We are to shine His light on others, "upon the earth" and we are all of the earth. This includes those of the earth that are "ruled by the night."

- God sends us too, He sends the man child(ren), to bear witness of the Light, of Jesus. We, as witnesses are to give witness of that Light. Why? So that ALL MEN, not just the elect, not just the chosen but ALL MEN "might believe."
1:12 But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name:
