The nature of your job can shatter your family

My pastor encourages couples to live together and work in 'not far away' places, and also to avoid certain jobs that can destroy the family. COMMON SENSE!!!

It's not too good for a man or woman to be far away from the family (especially the wife who should be closer to the children).

How can a man be working in Gaza and the wife in Australia and the children live in Spain? How can the family survive? It may be a little okay for a family with grown children.

My friend's elder brother is a banker. The wife also is a banker. They have about 4 children (I'm not quite sure now). The couple live for work as early as 6am and come home at round 10pm :shocked (The area has heavy traffic...it's usual there)
The househelp now plays the role of a father and mother. My friend told me there's something disapproving about the kids. And why not - when the man and woman are not there to give the family a shape

I hope your pastor means "married couples" haha joke. I'm sure he does. It is common sense but it's not a doctrine from the Bible. For instance, what does a military wife do when her husband is over seas for 4 years? There is no choice, but for her to maintain the household while the father is away.

As for the bankers who are never around for their children.. That is quiet side that they put work before their children. Obviously jobs that keep you that busy are not healthy for the kids. Even when I owned a puppy and had to work 12hr shifts while driving an hr there and back; I knew it was a bad idea to torture the puppy with my absence. I ended up giving the dog away so it could be loved. Though, had I kept it; he would've felt neglected. How much more a child?

In all fairness though, maybe they spend quality time with their kids when they have the chance? I know many family's whose parents are absent, even when they are sitting right next to them. You know what I'm talking about? The distant father? All in all both of these types of fathers have a huge effect on how the child will grow up.

Lets say somebody had a distant father growing up. Now, when they look to their heavenly Father; they will also see him as distant. Which would mean, unable to keep promises, never caring, and won't answer prayers. The list goes on about how we view our Heavenly Father by how our earthly father behaved. It's important that we see these these traits carried on, or it could effect us spiritually.

Thanks alot and welcome to CF.net. :wave
God is our father and mother. At times He seems so far away ;)At times we feel so neglected and disturbed. Perhaps we are the ones neglecting Him :lol
(And for those bankers....that's child abuse!!!

...And for that soldier who is a million miles away...In a good gov setting the gov should take care of the children and family. In spite of it, nothing perfectly replaces the love of parents.

The bankers I would assume have a baby sitter raising up their child?

You are correct. Statistic show that its far worse to be without a father than it is a mother. They have a critical role to play in displaying authority to the children.

Honor your father and mother? Maybe it's for that reason alone of learning how to submit to authority. One day the son will submit to God and his boss. While the daughter will submit to God and her husband. Both of which would have bad results without proper training. The daughter most especially when she can't submit to her husband and it leads to divorce. Sad picture but it's accuring more. Could this be a big factor in all of it?

A couple can't expect a child to be raised like they see is the best and turn out how they want if they are not there to do it. He will be raised differently by someone else and their thinking, attitudes and personality will be different than if they raised the child. Very sad for the child if they are godly parents and the kids doesn't turn out the same way. :sad

Yes. They have someone (there are a few others too) who take care of the children in the absence of the parents. My friend told me the last time we were together: the kids are disrespectful, insufferably boisterous, stubborn etc...

They are a very wealthy family? But wealth is useless without your parents around....

"Teach a child in the way that he should go..." you know the rest, but they are lacking in the teaching for sure :sad Parents can impart what no one else can. Doesn't matter if you hire the best babysitter in the world, because they still need their father.

Your very right about wealth being useless without parents around. Probably even worse off than being poor without parents. The child will grow up very spoiled with many attitude problems.

I'm not trying to toot my own horn but I wrote about raising children the Jewish way here. I know your probably into this sort of thing and who knows, you may learn something there :)
