the new covenant vs the old covenant

What you have asked you have asked amiss. I do not see any more than one method of salvation, anywhere in the Bible meaning there is one covenant that, because of hard hearted, stiff necked, men has taken about four thousand years for god to implement, fully. People like to point to the Abrahamic Covenant and the Mosaic Covenant but God has established one purpose for mankind, his fellowship with God.

When Adam lusted for Eve more than he desired the fellowship of God he broke the very thing God desired from us. God, because time has no meaning to Him has been training mankind to seek Him out, in other words to seek salvation. If and when we study the whole of scripture, the Bible [the first thirty-nine books] and the only God ordained, God breathed, Life application Commentary [the last twenty-seven books] there is one message through out, from the Fall of Man until the last Amen of Revelation 22, the salvation of man for the purpose of Fellowship with God.

That is one heavy duty piece of theology and the millions and millions of Ear Ticklers never preach that point because it is the Gospel message in, just, a few words and it is very divisive, it will divide the Goats from the Sheep in a heart beat, ruining his income and, virtually, emptying the Church. But always remember, God does not joke about this one matter, it is Eternal life or Eternal Death.

what was the old covenant; what is the new covenant - precisely?

What are the benefits of the new covenant?
Well, in this New Covenant there is a perfect High Priest who never stops performing his perfect work of ministering on behalf of the people of God.

And there's the end of the requirement for various literal worship observances upon which one's life depended.

And the New Covenant provides forgiveness for sins that could not be forgiven under the first covenant.

what was the old covenant; what is the new covenant - precisely?
Well, as I said, there is only one Covenant but to answer your question. Most people call the misnamed Mosaic Law [Ten Commandments] the Old Covenant and the, so called, New Covenant is contained in the 27 books of the Commentary on how to apply the Bible, the first thirty-nine books, to your life.

Defining the structure of this "New Covenant" is a greatly discussed and much debated matter as to, just, what is and what is not included. AS I mentioned in my first post, there is only one Covenant and the essential portion is 'believe on and rely on Jesus' and you will be saved. If you master belief the fruits of the Spirit begin to become normal life for you. For what the Fruits are read Galatians 5:22 & 23.

Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. Galatians 3:24 KJV

The purpose of the law was to point people to Christ. To prepare the way for His coming. Jesus is the only plan. The only way to salvation.

What are the benefits of the new covenant?
Requirment to know Torah and the 613 Laws vs the two Love commandments
what was the old covenant; what is the new covenant - precisely?
The Law of Moses vs The Law of Christ
The Law of sin and death vs The Law of life in Christ
Moses, an imperfect man was the mediator of the old vs Jesus, the perfect Son of God is the mediator of the new.

10-4!

Thanks for the replies...though far from my exact expectation. Some verse tell us the new covenant is better.
Jer 31:31-34 is insightful. also matt 26:26-30

Hebrews 8:6-7
6 But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also
Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.
7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been
sought for a second.

Hebrews 8:10
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days,
says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I
will be their God, and they shall be My people

Some of the benefits, as listed by some, include:
*your sins are forgiven
*the ability to obey God and do His will
*direct fellowship with God etc etc

And the most yummy part is Christ - access to Him....

The new covenant, I believe, is a testament - the New Testament

What are the benefits of the new covenant?
Hi, The Old Covenant was shadow of the good things to come. The animal sacrifices were only an admission of sin and would only cover (Atonement) till He that was to come that is in the volume of the Book. When The Christ came, He took away our sins as far as the east is from the west. The OT was the cleansing of the flesh. The NT was the purging of the conscience of dead works to serve the living God.
Atonement is an OT word, It is not used in the NT. The use of atonement as a term to represent all that Christ accomplished on the cross is neither Scriptual or satisfactory. The NT sacrifice took care of sins from the past, delivers us from sins at the present by The Holy Spirit guidance through His mercy and grace and will present us blameless at the coming of the LORD or if we meet Him first by our passion. AMEN

Jesus atoned.therefore in the nt its valid to say. I was atoned with God via the cross.

same person. the word says that the rock that follow the nation at horeb was Jesus. Jesus also says I AM.

Technically, in a sense, that was my point.

Isaiah 12:2 says "IEHOVAH... is become my JESUS"

Isaiah 12:2 says "IEHOVAH... is become my JESUS"
the Lord has become my salvation? the name Jesus isn't in the tanach but when it its mentions Yah saves or YHWH is my salvation that is closest to the Name.

Yes, I tend to see atonement as reconciliation.
Technically atonement, propitiation, and reconciliation are different aspects of the atoning work of Christ. To keep it very simple Christ was the Lamb of God who "took away" the sin of the world, whereas the animals of the OT simply "covered" sin. The Old Covenant pointed to the Lamb which was slain from "before the foundation of the world" (1 Pet 1:19,20). Which means that in God's Divine foreknowledge and foreordination, Christ was crucified BEFORE Adam was created. Had this not been true neither Abel nor Abraham nor Moses could have been justified by grace through faith. Something to think about.

The new covenant, I believe, is a testament - the New Testament
It is a Testament because there is a Testator, and it is effective because of the death of the Testator. Just like a human will is effective only upon the death of the testator, the New Covenant became effective the moment Christ said from the Cross "IT IS FINISHED", and gave up the ghost.

That's also when the veil in the Temple was supernaturally torn in two, and the way into the Holiest Place (in Heaven) was made effective. The entire Levitical system was abolished at that point, and the epistle to the Hebrews makes all of this very clear.

Most Christians are not aware of the Heavenly Sanctuary or Temple, but that is where Christ -- the High Priest after the eternal order of Melchizedek -- sits, having finished His redemptive work.
