  • Focus on the Family

    Strengthening families through biblical principles.

Focus on the Family addresses the use of biblical principles in parenting and marriage to strengthen the family.

Proverbs 3:5-8
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.

7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord and shun evil.
8 This will bring health to your body
and nourishment to your bones.

Proverbs 3:5-8 talking about not relying on our own understanding or being wise in our own eyes lines up with Paul saying that he did not come with enticing words of wisdom, or in excellency of speach. But still Paul came in weakness, fear and trembling.

With that in mind an issue I struggle with is with correcting someone else. In two occurances lately I've failed to reach out so that a person can find God. One from work, who seemed to be friendly but was against bible thumpers like her parents said she was Wiccan. On that oppurtunity I stayed silent. Another from church was bright and happy, saying she found more clues to fill her understanding, but the more she spoke about them the more I understood they were not bibical, but steered away from it. Still she at least still believed in Jesus, and the excuse I wore for not correcting her is that we are saved by Jesus not by our understanding. Both are times of weakness and fear. After all if we know Jesus is the only way to God but fail to act on that to those around us, what good is that knowledge to know condemnation towards friends and family.

If I am alone in this kind of struggle to bring others to to Jesus and tell them about Jesus, or even what Jesus and God have done in my life; then that is great news that everyone else is strong and brave in their testimonies.

If you can, please pray that we as a church (or just me) are strong in God even through our fears and weaknesses and still reach out like Paul did to pagans and Gentiles. If anyone has any insight to overcome the fears that stop the teachings of Jesus, the gospel, and our personal testimonies, please PM me, or share it.

Thanks.
The one who is wiccan doesn't appear to share her parents "faith". I don't see a lack of understanding in that just unbelief as I would assume her parents love her more and have testified to her out of that love for her well being. To guide someone to the Lord for "their" salvation is a work of love. But Jesus Himself was rejected by many as well as Paul. So the fault is not in the messenger but in the hearts and minds of people. So don't be so hard on yourself. Those who seek "truth" hear Jesus. Those who listen and learn from the Father go the Son. "They shall all be taught by God"

Is through the Son. There are no other paths. Religion won't get you there. No denomination or church organization will get you there. Only Jesus. He is the Way and the Truth and the Life and no one comes to the Father but through Him. Dispite this clear biblical teaching, there are those that want to suggest that there are other ways to God. Other paths. Other religions. Not so.

you said Jesus is the only way, i agree, but you failed to name which religion leads on that way? so which is it? if you say Christianity then which version as their are many and they do not all agree.

i personally think a Hindu that follows what Christ taught is more likely see the kingdom than someone that wears the Christian label but does not follow His way.

you ever read of India when they were ruled by England? two countries, one country oppressed, killed, maimed, and destroyed, the other country chose not to fight back but to resist by peaceful non cooperation. guess which one was the Christian nation.

So you believe in works salvation, correct?

Like what things?
the secrets of the kingdom, how did Jesus walk on water, how will we be like the angels in the next world, and so on. in so many churches today we are taught believe this or that for salvation, everything else is a mystery so dont think about it.

Jesus said he is the only way to the Father. You agree this is truth right?

i agree Jesus is the way. my understanding of "His way" is different than most. i think that way has little to do with what you call yourself or what the sign on your church says, it has to do with how you live your life.

Maybe you would be willing to share your belief of "His way since it is different that most? But we are waned about believing a different Gospel......
Galatians 1
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. KJ2000

Acts 4:12 KJV
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

We ought to have all this.

Salvation is through the fact Jesus bore our sins in his body, on the cross.
I Peter 2:24

Not just a name, but a name backed up by reality.

John prepared the way
Jesus is the way
The Holy Spirit helps others hear of the way
(Power to witness).

One way to be described in full. May take several to bring up the points, there is one Gospel.

Does salvation have anything to do with certain beliefs, such as who Jesus is, that he died for man's sins, that he literally rose again, etc.? Or is it all in what one does?

I think I know what you mean, but please correct me if I'm wrong. I don't know much about Hindu, but it makes sence from the aspect of someone unfamiliar with Christianity when they discover it's true will look at it deeper to try to apply and understand it as much as they can. Where as if a person is in a culture of Christianity when they accept Jesus, they might not look so hard to differentiate what Jesus taught, and what He did, as opposed to what is culturally believed in that Christian community, and what might be unknowingly wrong but accepted beliefs.

One drawback though is the Hindu has his/her culture as their foundation, which while strengthens one's resolve to look closely at Christianity, it also is hard to abondon. That factor could lead (and probabley has lead) many people to mix religions and add to Christianity when they shouldn't. Case and point from Israel's early foundations on it struggled with idol worship because of being so close with the other cultures that worshiped idols.

It's hard to rely on Jesus if you don't have some foundation to understand and hold onto. But that said my hope is that those who rely on Jesus, even when they don't understand, are saved.

Acts 10:3 KJV
He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.
4 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:
6 He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.

I do not think an angelic visitation is necessary but God can arrange new things / experiences for anyone.

As old as I am I have studied World History and Christianity to this very day is persecuted. India has a mix of religions but it has always been a Hindu nation, the question is without a godly purpose. No follower of Jesus is here for the points.

Jesus walked on the water because the Omnipotent Father willed Him to do so. And we will be like the angles because we will know the real persons instead of groping one another in the act of sex, we will be pure.

The single most important lesson I learned came from Henry Blackabee. Through him I learned to stand still, be quiet, look and listen to see what God has going on. Then move closer to God and join in in what He is doing.
