Some churches are devoted to obeying the commandments, while others are devoted to flattering people in high places. Which is the path to heaven?

The answer might seem obvious, but what explains the fact that so many have gone astray?

I don't think people go to Heaven.

If you obey the Lord, you will find yourself in heaven, sooner than you think, maybe.

From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matt 4:17 RSV

You think incorrectly. All you need to do is repent.

That doesn't say anything about going to Heaven

There is no one in the third heaven except God and Jesus as 1Thessalonians 4:13-18 says we who have died are only asleep unto the coming of the Lord in the clouds and those who are asleep before us who are still alive will be taken up first and we who are alive will meet them in the clouds. There is only one path to follow and described in John 3:3-7 and Romans 10:9, 10.

There are three heavens:

First heaven - The firmament, Earths Atmosphere -which is the immediate sky, where the “fowls of the heaven” (Genesis 2:19; 7:3,23; Psalms 8:8, etc.), “the eagles of heaven” (Lamentations 4:19), it is our atmosphere that surrounds the earth.

Second Heaven - Outer Space, the starry heavens (Deuteronomy 17:3; Jeremiah 8:2; Matthew 24:29).

The second heaven is the starry heavens, where our atmosphere ends. It is the heavens in which the sun, moon, and stars are fixed in orbit.

Third Heaven - This is where God and the holy angels (and creatures) and spirits of just men dwell. It is called “The heaven of heavens,” (Deuteronomy 10:14; 1 Kings 8:27; Psalms 115:16; 148:4). (1Kings 8:27) - “The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain you.” (Psalm 2:4) The One enthroned in heaven laughs; The LORD scoffs at them.”

The third heaven is beyond the space and stars. Where no man has seen by telescope. This heaven is the dwelling-place of God.

I see in 1 Thess. that it is our body (nekros = corpse) that will rise when the Lord returns.

As far as sleeping that word can also refer to just being dead. G2837 = sleep (actually or figuratively), be dead.

When we die our spirit goes back to the Lord. Can't remember that scripture right now.
As for our soul I don't remember any scripture for that.

I think heaven is the state we find ourselves in once we repent of our sin. Peace of mind. Contentment.

I think heaven is the peace that results when we repent of our sin. When we die, we will pass on to the resurrection.

Can you explain more throughly?
Years ago the Lord led me to repent of sins I was committing. After repenting of those sins, a peace came upon me too marvelous to put into words. That is heaven:

From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matt 4:17 RSV

But life is eternal. That is the resurrection:

[25] Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live,
[26] and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?" John 11:25-26 RSV

I don't know what your interpretation of those scriptures is, so I can't say if I believe it.

I believe a very traditional salvation in Christ which includes the resurrection and eternal life with Christ.

You cannot understand this until you repent:

It's only after we are renewed by the Spirit of God that we become joint heirs with Christ. It's at that time we receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that we know the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand, but yet not here on this present Earth until the time Christ comes for His Bride and then establishes his Kingdom here on Earth after the New Heaven and New Jerusalem are ushered down as is even being prepared for us in Heaven right now.

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
John 3:4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Romans 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
