The power of our words

There is incredible power in the spoken word. This is why the bible tells us that creation from God was spoken into existence. Genesis 1:1 “Let there be light†God said these words to make light. The first chapter of Genesis is riddled with “Then God said…†because nothing came into existence except by Him speaking it into existence. God had creation described like this so that we would realize the power of His spoken word and in turn, because we were made in His image, the power of our spoken word. There is a promise in 1 Peter 3:10. If you refrain your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit you will love life and see good days. Proverbs 12:14 gives another illustration of this promise. It says the fruit of our mouth is what brings us the goodness that satisfies. The power of our words governs the quality of life we lead.
Imagine that, we can improve the quality of our lives just by what we allow to come out of our mouths. If all you do is talk about how bad everything is then guess what, its all just going to keep being bad. That is why David wrote in Psalm 34:3 “Oh, magnify the Lord with meâ€Â. If you magnify what is good by speaking of it and apply the promise of 1Peter 3:10 and Proverbs 12:14 then your life will be better. That’s just if you magnify what is good. Think of what happens when you speak of the goodness of God, His works, His power, His love. When we speak the magnification of God in everything and everyone around us He becomes magnified in us. How can a life not improve with that happening?
What are you magnifying with your words? Are you magnifying problems with your health? Mental, physical, and spiritual problems occur to all of us. Don’t exclude yourself. Humble yourself before God. We all come against health issues. What we speak about those things has an incredible impact on our recovery and healing. Proverbs 12:18 “Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the bonesâ€Â. And Proverbs 12:18 “the tongue of the wise promotes health†If you have an injury or an illness I implore you to speak pleasant words of healing to it. God’s word works!
I beg you all, be careful what you speak into the lives of the people around you. The power of your words can change people for good or for bad. Proverbs 12:18 “There is one who speaks like the piercing of a swordâ€Â. That sharp tongue of criticism only magnifies the bad and does nothing to promote learning, diligents, and a want to do things correctly. When you speak the truth to someone be careful how you say it! Paul wrote to the Ephesians in chapter 4 verse 15 telling them to speak the truth in love so we can grow up in every way into Christ. I believe this goes along with Proverbs 15:1-3 “A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. The tongue of the wise uses knowledge rightly but the mouth of the fools pours forth foolishness.†How many of you know that when you speak the truth foolishly it only brings foolishness. Or when you speak the truth harshly it only comes against a wall of anger. Yet when truth is spoken in love, softly, and with wisdom it has incredible power to bring the life of Christ and the goodness of God into people’s existences.
I leave you now with this; the power of our words is immense. Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongueâ€Â. Please use it as Paul teaches in 1Thessalonians 5:11 “comfort each other and edify one another†and in Romans 14:19 “Let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another.â€Â
May God bless you all with his wisdom and grace. May He make us all worthy of his calling and finish our resolves for good and acts of faith by His power.

This part is metaphysics and not Christianity though it is wrapped in Christian terminology. You could go to an occult bookstore and buy a book on metaphysics and the concept would be the same. Why would it be right if it is from a Christian but wrong if it was from an Occult shop? This metaphysics comes from the Word of Faith teachers that say that faith is a force and that words are the containers of that force.

So if I went to an occult shop, they would tell me to buy a rose candle to get my girlfriend back and tell me to write out a spell to get her back and then I could speak the spell and burn the candle and she would come back because there is a force in the words we speak. This is witchcraft my friend.

Sothenes,

I don't see anything wrong with snowfloaters presentation.

Nothing in that part is against the truth that is taught in the Holy Word of God. and there is no promotiion of witchcraft of any sort in it!

If someone told you to go get some dirt from the ground and spit into it to make mud out of it and then go rub it onto the eyes of a blind man and then go tell him to wash his eyes in a pool of water and he will then be healed, and he believed what you said and obeyed what you said, would you say that was witchcraft?

If someone told you that if you speak words you believe and that what you say you will have if you believe it, would you say that was witchcraft because they are speaking words they believe?

.

snowfloaters,

Good post! :)

Since God made us out of the clay or the dust of the ground, I don't see any problem with God putting dirt in someone's eyes.

Instead of praying,"God's will be done" the post indicates that you can pray "my will be done". It is metaphysics.

Sothenes said:

:o

Actually, I saw no such "indication" within that post.
It does include to "humble yourself before God", and, "to speak pleasant words of healing to it."[/b] It also included this sentence "God’s word works!" :)

Also, the term Metaphysics is a such a broad term. If you are accusing this type of presentation as that of being metaphysics in the sense that you think it to be witchcraft.... then,
I must disagree with you, because, it is not out of line with the Will of God to ask for your own personal healing.

If I asked God for a healing it would be asking for my will to be done. My will to be healed IS the Will of God. God wants everyone of his to be healed. God wants everyone of his to prosper, and God wants everyone to be IN accordance to HIS WILL. So then. His will, IS my will.

=========================

Do you realize how many people went up to Jesus and asked for their own healing or the healing of a a loved one?
Seems to me they were asking for their will to be done.

It was Jesus who preached about the "means to an end" through faith in whatever a person believes.

It was Jesus who preached about the Faith the size of a mustard seed.

  • Matthew 17:20
And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

    Matthew 21:21
Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.

    Matthew 9:29
Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.

    Matthew 10:7-8
7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give
    .

What about the woman who touched his cloak? She looked to have her will be done through faith.

  • Mt 9:21-22 She said to herself, "If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed." Jesus turned and saw her. "Take heart, daughter," he said, "your faith has healed you." And the woman was healed from that moment.

Remember the centurion that came to Jesus to heal his servant?

  • Matthew 8:5-13
5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. 11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.

If it will please you, I can post plenty more scriptures from which to show you that "our will" to be healed IS the WILL OF GOD the FATHER.

When we ask for things ACCORDING TO THE WILL OF GOD. We are not only asking for HIS WILL to be fulfilled IN US, but we are also asking for HIS Will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. The Prayer some call The OUR FATHER is clear about the will of the Father being manifested on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:9-13

Is it not truth that when we 'follow" after Christ Jesus, that it also means we are "Christ-like" when the Holy Spirit comes to indwell in us? Surely you wouldn't think that Christ would deny us from making HIS WILL, OUR WILL when we seek after him to follow him, would you?

  • Matthew 10:38
And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.

    Matthew 16:24
Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

God had creation described like this so that we would realize the power of His spoken word and in turn, because we were made in His image, the power of our spoken word.

Adam and Eve were made in God's image but the children of Adam and Eve were made in the fallen image of Adam and Eve.

There are three words for divine in the greek. Theios, theiotes and theos are the words. One talks about nature. Another talks about power and one talks about "Is God". Colossians 2:9 says,"For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily." If you don't make distinctions for divinity then what you are doing is blurring the nature of man being divine and God's divinity when you speak about being made in the image of God. When we speak of man's divinity we should say, 'in accordance of but not as' and when we speak of Jesus' divinity, we should speak of it as 'identical spirit' with God's nature.

In you and everyone in this forum, the fullness of the Godhead does not dwell bodily so you do not have the power of God nor are you or anyone of this forum in identical spirit with God's nature. You are not deity so you do not have the power of creating because that is Mormon doctrine put forth from the Finnis Dake Study Bible which the Word of Faith teachers like to quote. Finnis Dake was not of reputable character because he took a minor across state lines to have sexual relations with and because he was acting in the natural, he can't grasp spiritual things because the Bible says that the natural man does not accept the things of God.

One of the hypocritical things I see from Word of Faith theology is that they love to quote "Jesus is Lord" but they don't believe it because when you speak words, you are on the throne as deity and God is not allowed to be sovereign King because as a sovereign King, those people who do not get healed is as a result of God saying,'no' to healing. My stepsister was heavily into Word of Faith theology and I have all of her magazines from all of the Word of Faith teachers. My stepsister developed cancer of the lymph system and because she wanted children, she stopped her chemotherapy treatments because chemotherapy makes you sterile. The doctor predicted that the cancer would come back in ten years and it came back with a vengeance and the cancer was unstoppable. I can think of all the years my stepsister took Word of Faith theology to the extreme and would not take her medicine but would wait for God's healing and then my stepsister died. What is tragic is that many of the Word of Faith followers can not and will not learn from my step-sister's mistakes. While my stepsister and her family paid the price from false theology, many of the Word of Faith followers are unapologetic and add insult to their ignorance of the Word of God. My stepsister tempted God by not taking the chemotherapy and her medicine because the word of faith teachers said it would be a lack of faith for her to take medicine and abused her by saying that she couldn't receive her healing because there was sin in her life and unbelief. The Word of Faith teachers should be arrested for giving medical advice without a license. It is the word of faith teachers' sin that taught my stepsister that she could be healed by the power of spoken words over her sickness which led my stepsister to die because she trusted sick and sinful theology from the mind science cults instead of listening to doctors.

I liked the original post also, it's the same principles I learned right after I became a christian.
I saw no 'word faith' in any of it, only basic truths.
I have an 8 part tape series on the power of the tongue.
In the old testament the son wouldn't leave home without the fathers blessing, that speaks for something.

It isn't the will of God for everyone to prosper because if everyone prospered then people would not look to God.

Rev 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

The criticism of God is that the people were rich, increased with goods and said they had need of nothing and prospered but God said they were really wretched, miserable, poor, blind and naked. It is the same way with the Word of Faith movement today.

"Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it.." (Psa. 127.1) and there are many Word of Faith followers labouring in vain because the Lord is not into what the people are building.

You want to prosper? Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.-Matthew 19:23 and many of the Word of Faith teachers will find themselves in the same predicament.

The following link shows you that God has a purpose for sickness and it isn't God's will to heal everyone:

http://www.myfortress.org/Sickness.html

Paul told Timothy to take a little wine for his stomach. Paul prayed three times for a thorn in the flesh to be removed. Paul left Trophimus sick because Paul could not heal him. The idea that it is God's will to heal everyone is unbiblical.

Isaiah 55:8 For my thoughts [are] not your thoughts, neither [are] your ways my ways, saith the LORD.

You can think what you want to think about God's will but the Bible says that your ways are not the Lord's ways and your thoughts are not the Lord's thoughts.

Copeland, Kenneth

(48 secs--recorded from tape, "Following the Faith of Abraham" Tape #01-3001
- talks about God reproducing Himself) ". . . God's reason for creating Adam
was his desire to reproduce hirnself. I mean a reproduction of himself, and
in the garden of Eden he did that. He was not a little like God, he was not
almost like God, he was not subordinate to God even. Now this is hard on the
human mind, but I'm telling you what the Bible said. The Bible said let us
make man in our image and give him dominion."

This is one of many blasphemous comments by the faith teachers. It is also wrong and those who follow Kenneth Copeland don’t know their Bibles. Psalm 8:4 is talking about man and verse 5 says,â€ÂFor thou hast made him (man) a little lower than the angels...†Psalm 8:4 basically teaches the opposite of what Kenneth Copeland teaches because the faith teacher teaches that man was a reproduction of God but Psalm 8:4 teaches that man is lower. Kenneth Copeland also doesn’t know his Bible because Isaiah 45:10 says,â€Â..before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.†If we were reproductions of God then we would be Gods but we aren’t. Kenneth Copeland says that man was not subordinate to God but that is wrong because God gave Adam a command not to eat from the tree in the garden so the faith teacher is wrong because being told that they can't eat would make Adam subordinate to God. The reason that many illiterate Christians fall to these teachers is because their only source of Biblical teaching is the false teaching of the Word of Faith teachers (in most cases).

Sothenes,

So sorry you are having such a difficult time with the original post and that you have taken the way of diversion to try and save face. :-?
You have veered so off course of the orignial topic and now you have turned this into a debate accusing it to be of some false teachings from Faith Movement where there is none of the sort! :sad

Diverting the attention off to some other subjects is not going to serve you well at all, it just proves you are pulling at straws to try and save face.

I'm not ashamed to admit where I have made mistakes and I don't see any that I've made here, so far. If I did, I will admit to them in my next post. However, I cannot stand idle by while you proceed to veer off topic and out of context scriptures all over the place that are misleading from the truth in the Word that was originally posted.

I don't have time to get into detail right now. I'll do it later in the weekend.

Seems to me that far too many people get bent out of shape when the word "faith" or when "the power of words" is talked about, and then they go off on some tangent and accuse it as coming from the "The Faith Movement". So sad. :crying: :-?

Relic,

If you read Dr. McConnel's "A Different Gospel" then you will get a little history of this doctrine and that it (The Word Faith Movement) came out of the Mind Science Cults and Kenneth Hagin plagiarized the books of E.W. Kenyon (where is the discernment in Charismatic circles) almost word for word.

Proving Metaphysics in another doctrine takes some skill and time. Writing a thesis that will stand up takes as much time as it takes to write a book. I've been a Christian for about 26 years and I can see what I'm talking about even if I'm out of time for describing it because I don't have enough time but I will have more time later.

No one is diverting anything because I will bring the evil of this doctrine into the light, Lord willing.

I appreciate that your passionately against the "Word Faith Movement". I don't have any clue as to what this movement is about and don't care to. My only concern is the Word of God. I have personally experienced the power of the words we speak not only in relation to the quality of my life, the focus of my thoughts, the reception of the truth by my self and others, and the magnification of God in our existences, but also in the healing of my body. Matthew 5:36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.

I don't believe that our words have any power because your words don't have the power to make one hair white or black. You believe that our words have power and the world doesn't believe that their words have power because they feel the need to curse, take the Lord's name in vain, etc.

Where does this word power come from? When I try to come up with a word to describe our "words" that gives them power, I don't come up with a biblical definition that is in any biblical dictionary but I come up with a definition for "word" that more resembles the Occult and the word everyone can settle on is from the branch of physics called "Metaphysics". The power you claim comes from something beyond our nature because we were made lower than the angels, we're conceived in sin, and our image resembles Adam's fallen image because we were made no longer in God's image but Adam's fallen image and therefore we can't be a god. Should you wrongly argue that we're in the god class then I have to point out that we have our earthly fallen bodies and not redeemed or glorified bodies and your words will not give you healing because Romans 6:23 says that the wages of sin is death and your words have no power over God's curse because we all have to die and can't be healed by your words alone. No matter how much you try to distant yourselves from the Word of Faith movement or Mind science cults, your theology represents Metaphysics and fairy tale theology even though you are saying the same arguments from the Word of Faith movement and Mind Science Cults.

One of the cricicisms from Wikipedia is that the Metaphysics of words means that God doesn't assert His power over individual will and choices because this power is in charge of the universe and God just uses it like you just use it and because of your teaching on the power of words, God cannot be supreme.

Mar 9:28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?

Mar 9:29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

Some demons are not subject to your words and your words do not have any power over them which shows that you don't get it.

.

No where in the original post did she say "her" words were supreme to the Word of God.

The original post was about magnifying God and realizing the power of HIS spoken word. And the whole implication within it was to exemplify how we are to apply the Word of God in the scriptures into our lives.

Sothenes, you are blowing this so out of proportion and have taken a perfectly good original post and made such a mess out of it by accusing it to be like some ungodly metaphysical promotion.

I'm not trolling but I am a user here.

It is interesting that the topic has changed from speaking our words to speaking God's words because there is lack of support for it.

Unfortunately James doesn't know any of this modern heresy about words because he says:

"And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?"-James 2:16
