Has He succeeded or failed so far - will He yet succeed, if so how ? - any comments - twinc

I think definitely you are talking about Jesus Christ the Saviour. Please tell me how did he fail? Does God ever fail?

He succeeded when He gave up the ghost.

John 3
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Matthew 7
14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Good question, Gregg. This is the apologetic forum so the appropriate move would be for twinc to state his/her position and then defend it through scripture.

This is the exact question that Calvinists posit. For them, Christ didn't die for everyone, and all those He died for are saved, so He is 100% successful. They then say that if He died for everyone, and yet not everyone is saved, He failed.

I think the question is simply a loaded one, with bad assumptions. Calvinists assume that He died for just the elect. That's the basis for their so-called question. When pressed on another forum, one of the Calvinists had to admit that the doctrine of "limited/particular atonement" was in inferred doctrine. What that means is that he knew that there are no clear verses that actually state that Christ only died for some, or that He didn't die for all.

The error in the question is the assumption that if He died for one, they are saved. That view denies man's freedom of choice (free will), but of course they do deny that. For them, ultimately, God chooses who will believe, and therefore, Christ died only for them. Slick. But there are no verses to support that assumption either.

To answer your question, as Savior of the world, yes, Jesus Christ fully succeeded. Not that all will be saved, but that He paid the sin debt in full for everyone, and by that payment, purchased eternal life for everyone. We know from Rom 6:23 that eternal life is a free gift. By His death, He holds the free gift of eternal life for every single individual in the human race.

The only issue is whether the individual will receive the free gift. It is received through faith in Jesus Christ for it.

John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,
New American Standard Bible
1 Timothy 1:16 Yet for this reason I found mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate His perfect patience as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal life.

Very clear: believe…receive. Available to everyone.

The Bible describes Jesus as the Savior of the world in Jn 4:42 and 1 Jn 4:14.

So, yes, Jesus Christ fuly succeeded as Savior of the world. I'm not going to argue with the Samaritans, nor John.

What was to be accomplished by Christ? I believe the establishment of His kingdom.

Mat 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Victory!

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
Hebrews 13:9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

2Corinthians 1:20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

Christ never fails us as It is us by not allowing the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that causes us to fail Christ. All Gods promises are yea and amen, but also remember that some of those promises are for those who are the enemy against Christ.

Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

Jesus compares us to God's harvest. He planted his field "us" the Word will grow good plants, but many plants will not soak it in.
