The Third Annual Luck of The Irish Party Thread

Anyways for the rest of you here's some more Celtic music. :)

Im 75%Irish and 25% British ancestry.
I love the lilt in Irish accents and pronunciation. Small wonder I'm Catholic . My aunt was a Catholic Nun. And the Headmistress of my Junior High. Not fond memories.
I loved Dave Allen an Irish comedian.

Well I never heard of Dave Allen but would you like any virtual refreshments? :)

With that like I'll take that as a yes. Would you like virtual beer or a virtual Shamrock Shake?

pepl tuu fat while others tuu hungry
ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses.
hah who'l be desolate

So,.. in other words? (Anyways, here's some fairy music for the rest of us. :))

County and City of Cork here. Maternal side. Not that many generations ago b/c we have looooong generations. From me, going back two brings us to Abraham Lincoln and his lifetime. My mom was a 1917 baby. Her mom, the only grandparent that I ever met, was old, OLD when I saw her. I remember giving her a 'do-I-got-to? Kiss' and not liking it. It's called a duty kiss.

Thought Bubble says. o O (( Yech! )) She had hat-pins so she was cool. She also had a kiln and did ceramics so she was doubly cool and the best part was that she'd give me a whole quarter and send me to the store. That was when you could get what's called, "penny candy" and it would cost like 5 each Pixie-styx(R) for a penny! So believe me I'd be one fat and happy boy. A whole snickers bar was a nickel and it wasn't no 'fun size' neither. It was a whole big ol' bar of goodness. Sheesh, have things changed. They had wax straws with juice in them too. So she was very cool. Don't ask me to tell you about the "Gunna-gun Tree" or about the "Bachelor's garage" where we broke in and found a hand-grenade (it wasn't live but we didn't know that). My lips are sealed on that one. Statute of Limitations aware. No biggie.

My dad was a 1911 baby and going back two gens on his side brought us back to 1 President after Honest Abe. His dad (my grandfather) wasn't as old as my granny but Grandpa Harry passed before I was born in the early 1950's. Yeah. We had longer generations then. 4 generations ago? Ireland. City and County of Cork. I said that, didn't I? Yeah.

I was told that the females in my family are DAR eligible from both sides. My personal research confirms and denies that as a fact. Theoretically true enough, neither side actually served. On my maternal side, it seems that my great-great-great-grand was given to the English Navy by his mom who struggled to make ends meet. The stipend she got probably allowed the family to make it through but when my great-great-great-grand arrived (Boston? Unsure) he deserted and that was that. No record. No DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution). So yes, we (our family) were here at that time. If that were the only requirement, the females of my family would be eligible. But of course, people love to make rules and one on them disqualifies deserters who did not serve in the American forces. Who'da thunk?

My dad's side? Maybe about as interesting but not IRISH - close, but no cigar. More later but suffice it to say that also a 'great-great-great-grand' who was here at that same time. He is said to have traveled west in a covered wagon. He is said to have been a Preacher. I like this. It makes me feel legitimate. But then? That's another story... not one I'll likely tell (( because I'd be lying for dramatic effect, that's why. )) I'm legitimate but I've been called a barsturd before...

Top O' the mornin' to ya!

Actually it's top of the evening for me now, but can I get you any virtual refreshments? :) Anyways, I haven't seen this yet but this looks like a very interesting video as I love The Lion King! :D (Although I'm already pretty sure that it doesn't beat Lebo M's version.)

Yeah I was right,.. it doesn't beat this version by a long shot. (Yeah I know it isn't Celtic related but I couldn't resist lol JohnDB, you have to see this movie if you haven't already whether it be the original or the remake as I think they're both good. :))

Hello everybody! Top of the morning, afternoon, evening, or night to you depending on where and when you're reading this. :biggrin2 Today is finally March first everyone!! :wootYou know what that means, the coming of spring and Saint Paddy's Day!! :biggrin This month we celebrate the life of Saint Patrick and how led a lot of the Irish to Christ.

We also celebrate our Irish heritage, (like I have quite a bit of Irish in me :)) and the entertainment and beautiful music that Celtic music brings. As well as the fun of leprechauns, parades, and good luck! :biggrin2 Come and enjoy the virtual refreshments, (hopefully virtual corn-beef and cabbage is a lot better than the real stuff) dance (or virtually dance) to the music and come enjoy the Saint Patrick's Day Parade (located down in Cleveland Ohio) on March 17th! Happy Saint Patrick's Day everybody and don't forget to wear green on this day or else prepare to have your cheek virtually pinched. :wink (Don't worry, I will do it gently. :))

This is very pagan.. Though I am Irish, luck is not real, leprechauns are demons, and you are celebrating this? ..

Yes,.. because you hit the nail right on the head. It isn't real. Neither is Santa Claus, the tooth fairy, or the Easter Bunny, it's just a bunch of fun for the children. Geesh dude, lighten up. :rolleyes

Fun for children? That's even worse. and there is nothing to be light about, let me explain to you why this is a bad idea for children fun. I will use Satan Clause as an example:

1) Satan clause is someone who watches you 24/7 and knows when you are good or bad.
Jesus is someone who watches you 24/7 and knows when you are good or bad

2)Santa has a list and marks people who are naughty or nice, checks it twice and removes those who are naughty.
Jesus has a list (lambs book of life) and blots out those who are not saved.

3)Santa rewards those with presents but then gives coal to the bad children
Jesus allowed those who have faith into heaven, while sending the bad to hell.

These are only a few minor contrasts towards Jesus and santa. When you teach your children santa is real, year after year they expect gifts for good behaviour, only to be crushed because they find out by the age of 8-10 that santa is not real, and the gifts came from you the whole time. You deliberately lied to them for their entire life and usually they cry and have a hard time accepting santa is not real, while others are poking fun and laughing at them for it.

What happens now when you try to teach these same children about Jesus, Who rewards those who are faithful, with the free gift of heaven? Who has always watched you, and records everything down in his book that you will eventually have to give an account about at judgement? I'll tell you what happens:

Your child questions your integrity because of the santa lie that was indoctrinated in them from birth, and have a hard time believing.

Why don't you lighten up on the false teaching and lies to children and pagan beliefs? Do not tell me to lighten up for defending Jesus against your pagan beliefs and "fun"

Good grief! Another one of those. :rolleyes Sorry everyone, we won't let this party crasher spoil our fun with his opinions. Bbl to the party!! :D

You must be a Pentecostal or charismatic. Clearly ignoring everything I posted, "good luck" getting into heaven with your idolatry parties of pagan worship.

Anyways,.. for the rest of you let me make my opinions and beliefs perfectly clear. Luck is just something that I find fun, I am not actually superstitious or anything but when it comes to getting lucky, sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't. :shrug

As for leprechauns, the fact that they are supposedly "demons" aren't real. (I never heard that in all of my thirty years on earth either, unless you're talking about the horror films.) Surprisingly a lot of the Irish believe in them. I don't, but I'm not actually saying that they don't exist either. Since leprechauns and fairies are so tiny just like dragons, (which I believe might have existed in prehistoric times) it would be awfully difficult to see them if they were real and only God knows the truth.

However, the problem is that there's no such thing as magic and that's why I don't believe in them. (Leprechauns that is. I don't think of dragons as magic so they could possibly have been real.) I still love listening to stories about them and writing about them though. :) Anyways, back to the party!! :woot

Lets test your knowledge of Celtic history...

I have Celtic blood in me but my ancestors aren't from Britain.

Where are they from then???

Uhh,.. Ireland? Anyways just so you guys know there will be some other video on the seventeenth. The Saint Patrick's Day in Cleveland has been canceled this year I'm afraid. :(

Uhh,.. Ireland

No Ireland is part of Britain
My great ancestors are known as Celtiberians, Celtic tribes that inhabited the Iberian peninsula were modern day Spain and Portugal are.

Before the Roman empire ruled Europe around 500BC there were three major civilizations that inhabited it.
In the south east were the Greeks. The north east were the Goths. But the rest of Europe were inhabited by the Celts. It was their golden era

So you see, the Celtic blood line isn't restricted to the Irish despite it being their origin. They spread their seed throughout Europe to as far as modern day Turkey. The land to the south was Greek and the lands in the north east were Gothic.

I hope you found that as interesting as I did. I love history
