Im 75%Irish and 25% British ancestry.
I love the lilt in Irish accents and pronunciation. Small wonder I'm Catholic . My aunt was a Catholic Nun. And the Headmistress of my Junior High. Not fond memories.
I loved Dave Allen an Irish comedian.

County and City of Cork here. Maternal side. Not that many generations ago b/c we have looooong generations. From me, going back two brings us to Abraham Lincoln and his lifetime. My mom was a 1917 baby. Her mom, the only grandparent that I ever met, was old, OLD when I saw her. I remember giving her a 'do-I-got-to? Kiss' and not liking it. It's called a duty kiss.
Thought Bubble says. o O (( Yech! )) She had hat-pins so she was cool. She also had a kiln and did ceramics so she was doubly cool and the best part was that she'd give me a whole quarter and send me to the store. That was when you could get what's called, "penny candy" and it would cost like 5 each Pixie-styx(R) for a penny! So believe me I'd be one fat and happy boy. A whole snickers bar was a nickel and it wasn't no 'fun size' neither. It was a whole big ol' bar of goodness. Sheesh, have things changed. They had wax straws with juice in them too. So she was very cool. Don't ask me to tell you about the "Gunna-gun Tree" or about the "Bachelor's garage" where we broke in and found a hand-grenade (it wasn't live but we didn't know that). My lips are sealed on that one. Statute of Limitations aware. No biggie.
My dad was a 1911 baby and going back two gens on his side brought us back to 1 President after Honest Abe. His dad (my grandfather) wasn't as old as my granny but Grandpa Harry passed before I was born in the early 1950's. Yeah. We had longer generations then. 4 generations ago? Ireland. City and County of Cork. I said that, didn't I? Yeah.
I was told that the females in my family are DAR eligible from both sides. My personal research confirms and denies that as a fact. Theoretically true enough, neither side actually served. On my maternal side, it seems that my great-great-great-grand was given to the English Navy by his mom who struggled to make ends meet. The stipend she got probably allowed the family to make it through but when my great-great-great-grand arrived (Boston? Unsure) he deserted and that was that. No record. No DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution). So yes, we (our family) were here at that time. If that were the only requirement, the females of my family would be eligible. But of course, people love to make rules and one on them disqualifies deserters who did not serve in the American forces. Who'da thunk?
My dad's side? Maybe about as interesting but not IRISH - close, but no cigar. More later but suffice it to say that also a 'great-great-great-grand' who was here at that same time. He is said to have traveled west in a covered wagon. He is said to have been a Preacher. I like this. It makes me feel legitimate. But then? That's another story... not one I'll likely tell (( because I'd be lying for dramatic effect, that's why. )) I'm legitimate but I've been called a barsturd before...
Top O' the mornin' to ya!
Hello everybody! Top of the morning, afternoon, evening, or night to you depending on where and when you're reading this. Today is finally March first everyone!! :wootYou know what that means, the coming of spring and Saint Paddy's Day!! :biggrin This month we celebrate the life of Saint Patrick and how led a lot of the Irish to Christ.
We also celebrate our Irish heritage, (like I have quite a bit of Irish in me ) and the entertainment and beautiful music that Celtic music brings. As well as the fun of leprechauns, parades, and good luck! Come and enjoy the virtual refreshments, (hopefully virtual corn-beef and cabbage is a lot better than the real stuff) dance (or virtually dance) to the music and come enjoy the Saint Patrick's Day Parade (located down in Cleveland Ohio) on March 17th! Happy Saint Patrick's Day everybody and don't forget to wear green on this day or else prepare to have your cheek virtually pinched. :wink (Don't worry, I will do it gently. )

This is very pagan.. Though I am Irish, luck is not real, leprechauns are demons, and you are celebrating this? ..
Yes,.. because you hit the nail right on the head. It isn't real. Neither is Santa Claus, the tooth fairy, or the Easter Bunny, it's just a bunch of fun for the children. Geesh dude, lighten up.
Good grief! Another one of those. Sorry everyone, we won't let this party crasher spoil our fun with his opinions. Bbl to the party!! :biggrin
Lets test your knowledge of Celtic history...
I have Celtic blood in me but my ancestors aren't from Britain.
Where are they from then???
Uhh,.. Ireland
