The Time Has Come

God has spoken to me through songs before. Sometimes He'll use them to point things out to me.
Other times I pick out the message and apply it to my life without God necessarily pointing it out more directly.

This is the case with pretty much any Christian music I listen to.

Yes, I'm sure we can sense the will of God being expressed in such a way sometimes; I do also think that however fine an experience this may be, it's not to be seen as on a par with Scripture, though.

Blessings.

Has anyone ever, like, carried on a conversation with God? It's hard to explain what I mean, but like sometimes I'll talk to God the same way I'd talk to my best friend. And the feeling was similar to talking to someone physically there...y'know? Basically prayer, but not just praying about situations that need help or expressing thankfulness.
Yup a cup of coffee with God :)

When the Holy Spirit speaks to me it usually is through placing thoughts in my mind. So it is sometimes frustrating if the thoughts are subtle ones and hard to tell apart from my own thoughts. I really want to improve this area of my relationship with God.

Isn't carrying on a conversation with your best friend normal? If not, nobody told me.

This was something I was concerned about because I WASN'T hearing an audible voice, in my head or otherwise. But that's not to say God wasn't/hadn't been moving in my life...He certainly was. But I thought something was wrong because I wasn't "hearing" God, through the Holy Spirit. I think farouk hits the nail on the head...everything must go back to Scripture. When we read Scripture, we are hearing from the Holy Spirit.

Can anybody interpret this?
Acts 15:28; "It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements:".

How did they know it seemed good to the Holy Spirit?

In Acts 21 10-11: the prophet Agabus comes and ties himself with Paul's belt and says, "The Holy Spirit says, in this way the Jewish leaders will bind the owner of this belt and will hand him over to the Gentiles".

It is the first time in the church that someone speaks for the Holy Spirit.
It made me think of the prophets of old.
They were certainly in prayer and the Spirit of God came upon them and they understood it was God speaking to them.

Now it brings me to today where people run around prophesying over each other about everything and so much does not come to pass.
They are false prophets, but their audience has itchy ears.

So, if you are in prayer and you claim to hear the Holy Spirit speak to you and it does not come to pass, then what is missing?
How do we know for sure?
