Have you ever wondered why some take communion? Have you wondered what communion is about, truly? I am here to tell you that most teach the doctrine of communion and they teach it incorrectly. The Lord's Supper is something much greater than an oyster cracker and some grape juice. It is a very spiritual and meaningful thing. First of all, let us analyze what actually took place at the Lord's Supper. We know that Jesus did not eat or drink anything at this supposed "supper"
Luke 22:16 - For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
(v. 18) For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
Second of all, let's look at what this all means. Because the supper and the discussion worked in as one of Jesus' many metaphorical teachings. The bread and the cup represent something so glorious that we should hold it dear every day.
Luke 22:19 - And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in rememberance of me.
(v.20) Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
Now that we understand the metaphorical teaching, there is still another question. Why would you say that we are not to take communion. That one is very simple and one verse from Paul tells us that we are not to take communion at church. This also goes to show that communion is most DEFINATELY NOT a required sacrament (as is baptism).
1 Corinthians 11: 18 - For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there are divisions among you; and I partly believe it.
(v.20) - When ye come together therefore into one place, this is NOT TO EAT THE LORD'S SUPPER.
Verse 18 tells us that the one place he is talking about is the church. So, Paul has commanded us not to take the Lord's Supper (or communion) in church. He then goes on to condemn the act of eating/drinking period in a church. Hopefully now, someone has had their eyes opened to the truth.
