There is an unforgiveable sin! As there is an unforgiveable sin we must know exactly what that sin is.

  • 1 John 5:16-17 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and He shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.

[list:3huz6bu5]1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.
[/list:u:3huz6bu5]

Understand what is being said there. John, I believe, is addressing the elect. We are told that if we are of the elect, we may ask for a brother to be given life and....He shall give him life! :praying As long as the brother has not committed the unforgiveable sin, the "sin unto death," as we cannot even pray for a brother that commits that sin.

"All unrighteousness is sin" but that is not the "unforgiveable sin," for He will not cleanse us of that sin.....

  • Luke 12:8-10 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess Me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God: But he that denieth Me before men shall be denied before the angels of God. And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.

That is very interesting to me. Not to get into the Trinity debate but...Father, Son and Holy Spirit are One. So, what does it mean that a word can be spoken against the Son of man and be forgiven but not against the Holy Spirit? I believe that is showing us that the "Son of man" there means Christ in us, in His elect, in His body. That body can be spoken against and it shall be forgiven. Why would anyone, or how could anyone...blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost?

  • 12:11-12 And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say: For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say."

Now, this could be at any time we, as children of God, are confronted with questions or opportunities to share knowledge of Christ with others. We are, or can be, taken before religious leaders, rulers and powers today, even on forums such as this but this event appears to be a very specific time. Going before rulers reminds me of....

  • Ephesians 6:12 (666) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

When is "the hour," or the "evil day," when some will be delivered for a testimony? I'm not sure any more. I used to believe it was only during Satan's tribulation, during his "hour of temptation." [Revelation 3:10] But, perhaps that hour is different for us all and our hour is whenever we are tested. However, it is written....

  • Mark 13:9-11 But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for My sake, for a testimony against them. And the gospel must first be published among all nations. But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.

Perhaps we can commit that one sin, at any time when we are led by the Holy Spirit and refuse Him. But, I believe a specific time is being taught when this one sin can be committed, and it is at the end of days.

As written, some of us will be delivered for a testimony. We are not to premeditate what we will say for the Holy Spirit will speak through us. To premeditate or not allow the Spirit would be to committ the unpardonable sin! Is this the event we were given an example of in Acts....

  • Acts 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

2:6 Now when this was noised aboad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

We must be ready and watch!

I have my own beliefs about the unpardonable sin and the sin unto death. One belief is they are not the same. I am convinced of that much. :yes The people Jesus was talking to certainly knew what this unforgivable sin was! Think... which side of the Cross was this?

Knowing about who these verses were addressing and why helps understand. Knowing a little bit about certain judicial laws in the 1st. century certainly helps understand what a "sin unto death" refers to and means.

Also, neither one of these have anything to do with eschatology. :confused

I posted it here as it, I believe, has to do with what will happen in the end of days.

Why are you convinced the unpardonable sin and sin unto death are not the same?

What does it have to do with the side of the cross?

Those He was talking to may have known what was meant....did they tell us? Do we know?

Vic, are you saying you believe the unforgiveable sin could only have been committed at the time of Jesus? :o

I likewise believe it's a specific sin that only the elect can commit. I also believe that those who are to be delivered up for a Testimony by The Holy Spirit in the last days will be given to know for sure about it.

Heb 6:4-8
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put Him to an open shame.
7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:
8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.
(KJV)

I know that Hebrew 6 Scripture has been misused to apply to us when we have slip ups, but that's really talking about a believer given various gifts of The Holy Spirit to 'know' the difference, but then turns away from God. It's not just talking about belief, it's talking about having proof of God by The Holy Spirit through spiritual gifts. Falling away from God in that state would be denial of His Gifts. Paul also shows that difference with the idea of bearing fruit vs. thorns.

Thank you Veteran. It is good to agree. :-)

It looks like I don't agree with you on this one. This is not about denying spiritual gifts. It's about losing salvation altogether. There is only one person that can cause someone that formerly believed to fall away...and that is the person that is doing the falling. If you check out other scripture, I think you will find there is such a thing as Apostasy. Jude mentions it. Peter mentions. Paul even mentions it.(I bring my body under subjection, lest after having preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.)
Peter says...work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Now I believe in love over fear...I believe in imputed righteousness...I believe in 1 cor 3 where some will have their works burnt up, but still be saved...yet so as by fire...but I also believe there is such a thing as Apostasy. Even Jesus mentions those that believe and endure. I am not saying Christians are required to be perfect. God even holds on to us in backsliding severely...but there is such a thing as all out denial. I will let Christ be the judge of who that might be.
2Pe 2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
2Pe 2:10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.
2Pe 2:11 Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.
2Pe 2:12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;
2Pe 2:13 And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;
2Pe 2:14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:
2Pe 2:15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
2Pe 2:16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet.
2Pe 2:17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.
2Pe 2:18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
2Pe 2:19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
2Pe 2:20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
2Pe 2:21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
2Pe 2:22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

1Co 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway

1Co 5:1 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.
1Co 5:2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.
1Co 5:3 For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,
1Co 5:4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,
1Co 5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
Mat 10:22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

Thats the ticket..........

I agree Nightmare and Veteran....that's the ticket! :-)

Although there are some that mistakenly believe this unforgiveable sin could only have been committed long ago :o that is wrong! And...dangerous. It is as wrong as saying the second Advent has already happened. But, to each his own. :shrug

The unforgivable sin is that we don't forgive others. And of course those who blaspheme the Holy Spirit.

Ps. 19
[7] The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
[8] The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
[9] The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
[10] More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
[11] Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
[12] Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.
[13] Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.

That is the Sin Against the Holy Ghost. When any sin has reached MATURITY! See James 1:15 also.

--Elijah

The body is the temple of the holy Spirit.

When we sin against the body, we blaspheme the holy Spirit. The holy Spirit cannot forgive you. He does not have any blood. We are forgiven by the Father only through the blood of his holy child, Jesus.

Ex 23:20-21
20 Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.

21 Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him. KJV

Elijah here: The Holy Spirit will LEAD Christ's OWN [IF] they will be LED. Rom. 8:14. When He LEADS US, if we balk over & over again, He will FINALLY not be able to REACH US. See Psalms 19:13 (who knows how close David came to that, and Saul in Acts 9 surely l made a near FATAL DECISION! And the pricks that Christ was refering to was the STRIVING of the Holy Ghost at Stephens trial & onward!

It is not the one time sin that is the sin aghainst the Holy Ghost, but the MATURE FINAL One. See James 1:15. Think of the preflood ones having a 120 YEAR STRIVING of the Holy Spirit along with Noah's preaching.. DOING NO GOOD except proving the Lords Loving PATIENCE not wanting any to be ETERNALLY LOST. And what they did or we do, is our free choice to make, for all the provisions are there in Christ [IF] we will OBEY! Phil. 4:13 + 2 Cor, 12:9.!

Now couple the 120 years [Probation} with the Rev. 17:5 ones (+ others) & their [many] satanic KNOWN doctrines taught for truth? ONE THING IS CERTAIN, they are about.. if not already, at the END OF THEIR ROAD!

See if you can locate that Sin unto Death here in this book?

Ezek.9
[1] He cried also in mine ears with a loud voice, saying, Cause them that have charge over the city to draw near, even every man with his destroying weapon in his hand.

[2] And, behold, six men came from the way of the higher gate, which lieth toward the north, and every man a slaughter weapon in his hand; and one man among them was clothed with linen, with a writer's inkhorn by his side: and they went in, and stood beside the brasen altar.

[3] And the glory of the God of Israel was gone up from the cherub, (did anyone catch that Word??) whereupon he was, to the threshold of the house. And he called to the man clothed with linen, which had the writer's inkhorn by his side;

[4] And the LORD said unto him, [Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof].

(Twice we see repeated history as in Ecc. 3:14-15. The End of the Old T. And the END of the N.T. You can be sure that this TRUTH IS TRUTH. And you can realize the TIME/FRAME being the CLOSE OF PROBATION for His Own FIRST! 1 Peter 4:17. [THE TIME IS COME] Yet BEFORE that time, there CAME THE Matt. 25 MIDNIGHT CRY! And ONLY ONE CLASS is PASSED OVER AS FAITHFUL!)

[5] And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity:

[6] Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and [begin at my sanctuary.] Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house.

(and who does the Word of God [Christ] tell us are THE MOST ABOMINABLE? (No, not the Rev. 17:5 ones either!) See Luke 12:47-48 for these ones love in word alone! Don't rock the boat they teach! And the DOCUMENTED OPEN tares are to grow right along beside the wheat! (Josh. 7:12's last part of the verse) But forum: Who does God slaughter here in Eze. 9, the ones who SIGH and CRY for [ALL OF THIS OPEN DOCUMENTED GARBAGE, or the one who could care less if you die the SECOND DEATH??)

[7] And he said unto them, Defile the house, and fill the courts with the slain: go ye forth. And they went forth, and slew in the city.

[8] And it came to pass, while they were slaying them, and I was left, that I fell upon my face, and cried, and said, Ah Lord GOD! wilt thou destroy all the residue of Israel in thy pouring out of thy fury upon Jerusalem?

[9] Then said he unto me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceeding great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of perverseness: for they say, The LORD hath forsaken the earth, and the LORD seeth not.

[10] And as for me also, mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity, but I will recompense their way upon their head.

[11] And, behold, the man clothed with linen, which had the inkhorn by his side, reported the matter, saying, I have done as thou hast commanded me.

(And today?? there are but few (men???) who LOVE CHRIST + His LOST CREATION enough to 'SIGH & CRY' so as they might escape the Second Death.) Obad. 1:16

--Elijah

Interesting thoughts...
I'll just include my two cents worth as to what I've always believed concerning this issue.

The sin unto death is unbelief.
Mark 16:16b - "but he that believeth not shall be damned."

The Holy Spirit was given to convict the world of sin.
John 16:8-9 - And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me;

When a person's heart is so hardened they are beyond repentance, they will no longer be able to be convicted by the Holy Spirit. Therefore, blaspheming the Holy Spirit is a denial of the power of God culminating in unbelief.

Its so simple, that I cannot understand why its a mystery to Christians. The Bible tells us exactly what that sin is. God is not cruel, so He will not say something as important as this, and then NOT tell us what it is ! Just read the Bible plainly and you will see that the unforgivable or 'eternal sin" is to call the work of the Holy Spirit, the work of the devil.

Look !, here Jesus told those ,(who told Him He had a demon) that there is an unforgivable sin:

Mar 3:28 Verily I say unto you, All their sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and their blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:
Mar 3:29 but whosoever shall blaspheme against the Holy Spirit hath never forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin:
Mar 3:30 because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.

See? "because they said", that is the reason He told them about that sin. They had just committed it !

Part of that is that they attributed the work of God to that of Satan. Is that the blasphemy, the unpardonable sin?

  • Mark 3:22 And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, "He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth He out devils."

At the end of days when the fake is among us, if not already, to worship him or...attribute holy works, such as the above example, to him is to commit the sin. One has to be at a certain point in one's spiritual maturity however for that to apply I believe. He protects others from that by blinding them.

Its very simple. Of somebody says:" Its the devil working through that person" and it is in fact the Holy Spirit working through that person, he has committed the unforgivable sin.

We are told not to judge anything before the appointed time and it is GOOD advice. 1Co 4:5 Wherefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and make manifest the counsels of the hearts; and then shall each man have his praise from God.

We as Christian these days, are way too verbal about things that we know little about.Jas 3:1 Be not many of you teachers, my brethren, knowing that we shall receive heavier judgment. And yet it does not scare us, we carry on. We teach and judge at a merry pace as if it is a free for all. Even those who are not called to teach, teach.

We need to be more careful.

I see that quote in James in a different light. Pertaining to sharing His Word with others are we not all told to do so, that is our purpose.....

  • Luke 8:16 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.

The [James 3:1] verse about teaching, to me, doesn't mean we should not teach for we are all to witness. It is rather about how we share His Word. From our mouth does both "sweet water and bitter water, blessings and cursings," flow? [3:10-11] Do we "defileth the whole body" with a "tongue of fire?" Are we "unruly evil and full of deadly poison?"

There should be peace within the body but in order to keep peace does that mean to back away and not teach when faced with opposition...for we are told there will indeed be opposition? Does it mean to lose your saltiness?

  • Mark 9:50 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltiness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

Colossians 4:6 Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

Leviticus 2:13 And every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt.
