Gosh... coke is Satan's Drink. Why do you think it burns?

Besides. I'm just going to loose my teeth eventually anyway, might as well enjoy the good stuff.

LORD HAVE MERCY!

What kind of a confession is that? :o

Why in the world would you say that about yourself? :o

You won't lose your teeth IF you take care of them and don't abuse them and the health of your body with consuming way too much sugar.
If you don't take care of your teeth, of course you will lose them. So, take care of your teeth by not abusing them with neglect of doing the right thing for them to stay healthy.

Never let a confused thought against the truth of God's will for your health be your mind-set/confession, and never allow the sly words of the devil to trick you into thinking the pleasures, "the good stuff" of sugar (no matter how much you consume) are not what will make you lose your teeth or ruin your health later on down the road. Never allow the devil's thoughts convince you that kidding around about "sweets" is not taking the place of "Godly" common sense.

I used to be hooked on Pepsi from the age of 10 through 50! That's 40 years! And as a result I lost a molar and had to have a front tooth capped! And, I have way too many fillings! Some so huge I'm surprised the didn't pull the tooth! And I have to keep very close check on them to make sure the fillings don't come loose or get cavities underneath them from being loose! I am now very concerned to save my teeth from having to be ruined any further! I didn't get released from the bondage of being hooked on sweet drinks and food until I was 50 years old! I am now 55. It's been 5 years that I've been freed from the bondage of being hooked on "sugar, and all things sweet". But now suffer from the consequences of being hooked on sugary things for most of my life! Because of being hooked on sweets for so long and then now not eating so much sugar, being on a sugar high for most of my life! I now have to watch that my blood sugar doesn't fall too low because I get horribly sick from it happening! :crying:

Loosing your teeth and maybe having to deal with some form of diabetes from abusing your body with unhealthy consumption is nothing to mess with. :crying: Nor do you want to create situations in your life that bring it about! Low blood sugar or high blood sugars are NOT healthy conditions that I would promote for anyone!
And joking about how much sugar you consume as if it's no big deal is only showing the way to dire consequences rather than promoting the avoidance of unhealthy practices. Please consider your words. Words and not something we should take lightly. From a man's heart so is he. Do a study on the use of words that come out of our mouth. even in jest! God does not take it lightly, nor should we!
I have come to realize that kidding about certain things as if the result of that which is ungodly is a laughing matter is NOT Godly humor. It is a humor that sways away from the truth, it is a humor that shadows the truth.

Watch out what JUNK you put into your body! IT IS THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

Take it from someone who's been there, done that! You don't want to abuse any part of your mind or body! Treat them both with respect. Even kidding about it is using the "Truth" of God vainly. Having to go to the dentist to have your teeth filled or pulled is NOT something to look forward to! Please promote things that will avoid that from happening. No one should ever say I will lose all of my teeth anyway. What makes you think all people lose their teeth when they are old? There are plenty of OLD PEOPLE who have all of their teeth well into their 90's BECAUSE they took good care to not abuse them with junk food and drink!

Last year, I received this following statement written in a Christmas card and I hope it helps anyone who is willing to listen to my testimony about not abusing your body and mind with junk thoughts and junk foods:

"To all who seek the truth-
We pray His truth fill your life and that
you will be filled with the
freedom that His truth brings."

Re: Best Cola

Hi Relic,

I too was a Pepsi drinker for quite some time; now I limit myself to water, juice and an occasional ginger ale. (of course there's the medium cup of coffee in the morning) I will say though, that sugar as a sweetener, is far better for you than corn syrup and artificial sweeteners. The body doesn't know what to do with corn syrup and no one really knows the long term effects of artificial sweeteners.

Now with that said, I must say you unfairly judged Tim based solely on that one statement of his. You don't know him; I know him personally. You will be hard pressed to find someone of his age or even older, that is as on for the Lord as Tim. As a teen, he always joined us in adult small groups and exceeded many of the adults in devotion and Bible knowledge.

Now, he's a young adult and this is how young adults often break the icy coldness of the many of the silly debates we have around here; they conduct food polls. May I stay free in the Lord and never grow too old to enjoy the zeal of being youthful.

Youth is a wonderful thing. What a crime to waste it on children.

Re: Best Cola

Vic,
I surely understand the joking about things. I am a victim of loving too much sweet things for over 40 years. I don't blame Tim for anything, I care for him dearly as I do anyone else here. I have a son who is 21 years old, but I would never take it lightly if he was so hooked on pop or sweet things. If he said he was going to lose his teeth, so may as well enjoy "the good stuff". Are not thoughts I would want him to hold onto just because he loves Pepsi. Pepsi was the demise of my health! I now have to pay so close attention to my blood sugar levels it is heartbreaking.

So If you all want to joke about how much Pepsi or coke is loved and which is "better" than the other, go right ahead, you may as well make fun of which is the better drug by comparing which drug is less of a threat... Because that's all POP is... it's a drug based drink. So go ahead, joke all you want. I don't come here to to spoil the party, I come to bring the truth about drugs that destroy the health of people who don't realize what is behind the masking and the hype of products that far too many corporations promote as "good stuff". And that! Is NO LAUGHING MATTER. :crying:

Please forgive me for presenting a truth about a bad drug based product.
I TRULY LOVE YOU ALL! I don't want you to be decieved.

Please forgive me for presenting the truth...
Here is the TRUTH:

... Coke is Satan's drink ...

Actually any "pop/soda or junk food drink" is Satan's drink.

Sorry to spoil the party here, but Truth is Truth, it cannot be denied! 8-)

Check out these TRUE FACTS about sweet, carbonated, and caffinated drinks.

Why Soda Pop Drains You Dry

The Main Issue

Soda has a pH of about 1.5 and normal blood pH is between 7.2 to 7.4

It takes 32 glasses of alkaline water at a pH of 9 to neutralize the acid on ONE 12 oz can of soda. Most people don't drink that much water, and if they do, it's just regular water, not water that has been alkalinized. So in order to keep your blood at a neutral pH, your body uses the only thing it has to buffer that acid...the calcium from your bones. For every can of soda, your body withdraws 20mg of calcium from the bones.

When your body is an extremely acidic state, that is when disease develops. For a more thorough explanation of this, see What Causes Disease? http://www.unhinderedliving.com/disease.html

See "The Day I Gave Up Soda Pop"
http://www.unhinderedliving.com/nosoda.html
=============================================

Soda pop is not good for you. Of course, you have probably suspected this, but perhaps you don't know the extent to which drinking carbonated, caffeinated, sugared, or artificially sweetened beverages destroys your body.
If you look at the list of ingredients in most soda pops, you will likely see most or all of these listed:

caffeine
carbonated water
phosphoric acid
sugar or high fructose corn syrup
aspartame
acesulfame-k
sucralose

Let's start with carbonated water. As you know, our bodies require oxygen to remain healthy. For every can of carbonated soda ingested, the amount of oxygen in the blood is decreased by 25% for up to three hours. If you are drinking several sodas per day, you are depriving yourself for a significant amount of oxygen.

Calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus must be maintained in the proper balance for bone health. When too much phosphorus is in the blood, calcium is leached from the bones, causing osteoporosis. Even in citrus sodas which contain citric acid instead of phosphoric acid, calcium is needed to normalize blood pH. It has been said that the fastest growing group of people with osteoporosis in this country is teenagers....because of the huge number of sodas they consume.

As far as caffeine and sugar are concerned, they both cause dehydration, and the massive depletion of minerals. A study was done in which two groups of children aged 13-18 years of age were given one of two drinks, a caffeinated sugar-free drink, or a drink containing both caffeine and sugar. When caffeine was added, calcium excretion in the urine increased by 25%. When sugar was added, urinary calcium loss almost doubled (1). Both caffeine and sugar also cause dehydration.

Sugar in particular is destructive because its ingestion lowers immune function by reducing the ability of white blood cells to ingest and destroy bacteria. This lowered immune function can last for five hours or more after the ingestions of sugar (2).

Sucralose, also marketed as Splenda, breaks down into small amounts of 1,6 -dichlorofructose, a chemical similar to chlorinated pesticides. There has not been adequate testing of this product before it was released for public use, and many of the post-approval studies are alarming. To ready about it, go to Sucralose Toxicity Information Center . http://www.holisticmed.com/splenda/

Aspartame, or Nutra Sweet, has an alarming health record. Read my article about AspartameAspartame (Nutra Sweet) Toxicity Info Center . . Even though this article is about how aspartame poisons the pregnant woman and her unborn child, you can see how it would do similar things in the bodies of others. Also, see the http://www.unhinderedliving.com/aspartame.html

Acesulfame-k is a dangerous chemical. Read Sample Quotes from Cancer Experts' Letters on Acesulfame Testing . http://www.cspinet.org/reports/asekquot.html

PLEASE HEAR ME OUT! :crying: I'm sorry to come and spoil this party here, But Truth is being masked by the demons of this world! I am a living testimony of what all that pop and sugar does to your body if you consume too much of it and get hooked on it! :crying:

After being hooked on Pepsi and sweets for over 40 years of my life! I've come to testify to all that are not informed about the seriousness of messing around with chemical based foods and drinks!!!!!

Soda/POP of any kind is just another from of DRUGS!

So then, now, after all of the TRUTH I posted to give fair warning to all of you who kid about loving their pop! As I used to love pop and sweets so much for 40 years of my life! I now regret not taking heed to the warnings! the very same warnings I now gave to you here. If you want to destroy your teeth and your body! DRINK SODA POP!!!! :crying:

"The Christian's Attitude Toward His Body."

... Mike Winkler, recently delivered a sermon entitled, "The Christian's Attitude Toward His Body." I thought it was directly applicable to this ministry, so I wanted to share it with you. Mike developed three points about caring for the physical body that are outlined below.

Caring for the physical body is a matter of stewardship. A steward is one who is entrusted with the care and management of another person's property. Obviously, everything we possess actually belongs to God. That includes our body (1 Corinthians 6:19).

As Christian stewards, we must be trustworthy with our responsibilities (1 Corinthians 4:2). We prove our service through our sacrifice. "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service" (Romans 12:1).

As trustworthy stewards we must never neglect our bodies (1 Timothy 4:7-8). We must discipline our body everyday through proper rest, diet, and exercise. Paul said, "I discipline my body and make it my slave" (1 Corinthians 9:27). We are to exercise "self-control in all things" in order to become fellow partakers of the Gospel (1 Corinthians 9:23-27).

Paul tells us to care for our bodies "so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body" (2 Corinthians 4:10). The greatest compliment anyone could ever receive is, "I can see Jesus in you." We will also answer to Christ at the Judgment "so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body" (2 Corinthians 5:10). Faithful stewardship of our physical body is very important in our Christian walk.

This presents at least four challenges in caring for our physical body:

Cherish and nurture the body (Ephesians 5:28-29).

Consider the body dead to any immorality (Colossians 3:5-9).

Present the body to God as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1).

Do not let sin reign or control our physical body (Romans 6:12).

In order to assist the Christian in being a trustworthy steward of his physical body, the following biblical guidance is offered from 1 Corinthians 6:13-20:

Our bodies are for the Lord's work and glory.

Our bodies are members of Christ's body.

Obey the command to flee all immorality, which is sin against the body.

Our bodies are the temple of God's spirit.

We have been bought with the blood of Jesus.

Although caring for the spiritual body is far more important than caring for the physical body, their health is still linked. We are commanded to take care of both. May God bless you as you endeavor to treat your body as His temple! "If God be for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31).

Letters to:
Ask The Nutritionist
Kenneth E. Loy, Jr., CN

I am contacting you to ask a question.
Why do I crave sweets so much?
I immediately crave a sweet of some sort in the morning upon awaking. And usually after eating. Am I maybe consuming too much carbs and not enough protein? I am anxious to hear!

The primary reason that someone craves sweets is because they are addicted to refined sugar. It is often called an acid addiction, which also includes cravings for salt, vinegar, caffeine, bleached grains, dairy products, alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs.

When you consume sugar snacks, your body tries hard to extract any nutrients it can find from them. When the nutrients are found lacking, your body sends a signal to the brain saying, "We need more nutrients! We didn't find any in that Twinkie!" Instead of making a healthy, raw salad, you reach for another Twinkie or a candy bar. You have become addicted to sugar and your body continually asks you to consume more nutrients. The only way to break this vicious cycle is to stop eating sweets and substitute healthy snacks, preferably raw fruits and vegetables.

In American it is highly unlikely that you are not consuming enough protein. Simply increase your consumption of raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and cooked whole-grain starches. Eliminate any of the acid addictions listed above and you will soon get over your sugar cravings. The following articles will provide you with further information:

Medical Myth #3 : Sugar is Harmless

I've mentioned the effects of sugar on the body before, but I would like to elaborate further so that you might realize the great harm it really has on your system. Sugar is the most harmful and addictive substance ever known to mankind. It should be completely eliminated from our diets.

By "sugar" I mean the refined, white powder that is the major ingredient in candy, soft drinks, cakes, pies, and so on. The refining process takes natural sugar cane and removes all of the fiber, vitamins, and minerals from it. First, it is heated up in chalk milk, which extracts its calcium and protein. This heating process also destroys the cane's vitamins and enzymes. Next, it is mixed with acid, chalk, carbonic gas, sulfur dioxide, and natrium bicarbonate. After cooking and cooling this mixture several times, it is then crystallized, centrifuged, and treated with strontium hydroxide. To clean this deadly concoction, it is passed over chalk and carbon acid. Any dark coloring remaining is removed with sulfuric acid, filtered through bone charcoal, then decolorized with highly toxic dyes.

Does this sound like anything resembling a food? It's no less than a drug … an addictive one at that. God's wholesome sugar cane is turned into poison by this process! By removing all of the nutrients and adding toxic chemicals, this addictive powder is concentrated into eight times more sucrose than the same weight of cane. This unnatural amount of sucrose plays havoc with blood sugar levels and contributes to diabetes, hypoglycemia, obesity, and heart problems.

You've heard the old saying, "A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down." Not only is the medicine toxic, the sugar immobilizes the immune system. Only nine teaspoons of sugar are needed to paralyze the immune system by at least 30% on that day. One soft drink has ten teaspoons of sugar in it. You're increasing your chance of illness greatly just by having a soft drink! Most Americans consume fifty teaspoons of sugar per day! That's suicide! It only takes thirty teaspoons of sugar to disable the immune system for an entire day. No wonder Americans are so sickly! :crying:

Check labels before buying a product. Highly refined sugars in the forms of sucrose (table sugar), dextrose (corn sugar), and high-fructose corn syrup are lethal and are listed as ingredients in virtually everything. Sometimes, a product lists all three. Most ice cream contains over 37% refined sugars (not to mention the unhealthy dairy contained in it). Refined sugar is also hidden in breakfast cereals and fruit drinks, usually higher than 50% of its contents. Become an avid label reader. Your life depends on it!

Dr. Norman Walker states, "Sugar causes irritation and weakening of the mucous membranes of the body and robs teeth, bones, and blood of a great percentage of their minerals. Inflammatory diseases of the breathing and digestive organs result from the use of white and brown sugar" (Walker, Norman W. Water Can Undermine Your Health. Prescott, Arizona: Norwalk Press, 1974).

Besides poisoning and burdening our system, sugar cannot completely metabolize, resulting in pyruvic acid. This toxic compound deprives the blood of oxygen. Our system must then deplete chromium, magnesium, zinc, thiamin, and B vitamins just to attempt absorption of the sugar, thus, creating a deficiency of vitamins and minerals. Our bodies begin to demand more food in order to replenish our nutrient supply. We grab more sugary snacks because we're still hungry and we've become addicted to sweets. More nutrients are robbed from us. Insulin is released from the elevated blood sugar levels, promoting the storage of fat. Our triglyceride levels rise. More toxins are introduced into our bodies (God's temple) and the vicious cycle continues. Obesity, diabetes, and heart disease are just around the corner.

The simple carbohydratesâ€â€refined white, brown, turbinado, and corn sugarsâ€â€should not be categorized with the healthy complex carbohydrates and starches. Most simple carbohydrates should be relabeled "poisonous." The body absorbs complex carbohydrates much more slowly, which keeps blood sugar levels even. Just so you don't think I'm taking one more "food" away from you, let me suggest some natural sweeteners that contain complex carbohydrates and most of their original vitamins and minerals.

Syrups made from grains contain a blend of complex carbohydrates and simple sugars. Barley malt syrup is 30% complex carbohydrate and substitutes well for brown sugar. Brown rice syrup is 37% complex carbohydrate and is mild enough to be used in place of brown and white sugar. When this sweetener is dried into granules, it still retains about 33% complex carbohydrate. These all substitute well in your favorite recipes.

Acceptable unrefined, natural, simple sugars are fruit-juice concentrates, granulated cane juice, and pure maple syrup. Honey is classified as refined because the sucrose is broken down into glucose and fructose in the honeybee's stomach. It still contains some nutrients and is an acceptable sweetener. Although molasses is a by-product of refined sugar, it still retains many of its vitamins and minerals and is also acceptable.

In your recipes, white or brown sugar can be replaced one-to-one with the granulated cane-juice and brown-rice sweeteners. Liquid sweeteners, however, are a different matter. The white, brown, or turbinado sugars can be replaced with barley malt syrup, brown rice syrup, maple syrup, honey, or molasses by reducing another liquid in the recipe by 1/3 cup and adding about 1/3 cup of flour. Honey is much sweeter than most liquid sweeteners and can be reduced by a quarter.

Please stop using refined, white sugar in your recipes and use the natural sweeteners. Check the labels on all of your food items and don't buy brands that have sugar, sucrose, dextrose, or high-fructose corn syrup. You'll be shocked at how many brands use these poisonous ingredients. Unfortunately, even some "health-food" items contain these ingredients. Also, be wary of "sugar-free" products. Aspartame and saccharine are known toxins.

If we stop buying junk food, companies will be forced to stop manufacturing it and replace it with healthier alternatives. Health-food stores and some grocery stores already offer more wholesome options. Don't overeat these though. Even the healthier sweets are no substitute for fresh, raw fruits and vegetables. The first sweet snack you should reach for is fruit. Grace be with you all.

Relic,

I grew up on junk food. My mom used to let me eat hot fudge sundae's for breakfast! My diet consisted of chocolate and sugar. A few years ago, I started eating healthy. I started out slow and got rid of my Count Chocula cereal. Then I began cutting out more sugar. Now I am constantly having problems with my blood sugar falling too low. I have passed out twice at work and came close to falling out many other times. It's such a horrible feeling.

Thanks Relic.

Honey is classified as refined because the sucrose is broken down into glucose and fructose in the honeybee's stomach. It still contains some nutrients and is an acceptable sweetener. I've know about the side effects of granulated, refined cane sugar and have used granulated fructose and fructose tablets for years. Over the last several years, I've gravitated toward honey.

Here's a link from a medical/nutritional site:

http://www.healthmad.com/Nutrition/Is-H ... -You.29459

(excerpt)
Natural honey is valued for its sweetness, and is chock full of unexpected goodness. Because it's predigested by insects many people who can't stomach cane sugar can more easily metabolize honey and enjoy its natural energy - so it's almost the perfect food.

Honey is composed of two main sugars, levulose (<fructose) and dextrose. These sugars do not need to be broken down by the digestive process, so honey is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream, giving a quick energy boost to the body. It also contains protein, vitamins and minerals, but no cholesterol.

Honey has certain potassium salts that make it a phenomenal moisture absorber and a great killer of germs and bacteria. In fact, honey kills bacteria more effectively than some antibiotics.

This also helps it draw excess fluid from the blood stream, lowering blood pressure. Honey, if taken on an empty stomach with water and lemon, reduces obesity and weight. Beauticians recommend using it liberally for a glowing complexion and silky hair. If taken at night with hot milk, it cures constipation.

It is also the preferred sweetener in the Bible.

Exo 3:8 And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

Matthew 3:4 And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.

:-D

There is another good sweetener called xylitol. It's sometimes called wood sugar because it was first derived from birch trees. It's also found in plums, raspberries and other berries. It has less calories per teaspoon than sugar. It's carbohydrate weight is almost zero (sugar is four grams per teaspoon). So it's good for you carb counters. I'm Italian, so I'm not a carb counter. LOL

It helps prevent tooth decay. You will find it in Trident gum (the gum that four out of five dentists recommend ;-) ).

It also inhibits bacteria from clinging to the inside of the ear canal and nasal & sinus passages. A saline solution with xylitol is used for ear infections. I suffer from sinus congestion and infections and find that a similar solution used as a nasal and sinus flush really helps.

...but I digress... 8-)

The fact about any food or drink consumption is that all food effect different people in different ways. Sure Soda has it's negative effects, so does Chocolate, milk, peanuts, and in the case of the squid from Finding Nemo, H2O. :) The fact is, it's the responsibility of the individual person to know how to take care of their body best. I myself have naturally low blood pressure. I can get away with a little more cholesterol in my diet because my blood can handle it.

Caffenine for some releave's head aches, for other it causes them. Calcium strengthens our bones, but can also build up harming cartilidge and joints. Just as God gave us all sorts of food to partake of, He gave us all sorts of bodies which handle foods differently. Advocating good health is a good thing, but that's where we have to stop because good health for me isn't good health for the next guy.

Nikki, I am borderline hypoglycemic, so I understand what you're dealing with my friend. I snack on nuts, bananas and yogurt during meals to keep the blood sugar up and to fight off that light-headedness I often get... otherwise I get irritable and cranky during work and tick off my coworkers. A glass of milk helps too.

Nikki,

I see you can relate to what I've been trying to convey here. I'm so sorry you are experiencing the same problems that I am because of too much sugar for such a long time. I Hope and think that with gradual decrease of sugar from the diet, that these horrible symptoms will be no more. You can't go cold turkey with eliminating the sugars. You must replace them with natural fruits and juices gradually.

I pray for your recovery. I hope for you that a switch to natural sweets will be the cure. Stay hydrated, you need to drink more water than usual. Never go without a glass of water before each meal every day. DO NOT ever let your mouth get dry. People with low blood sugar must never even get close to being hungry or thrirsty. Always keep a power bar with you or something to carry you over to your next meal.

Nikki, A while back, I got so sick I thought I would have to call the Ambulance. It wasn't until someone offered me a tic tac mint drop that I immediately started to feel better. I then found out that my blood sugar levels needed to be carefully monitored. And since then I've learned that if I don't stay hydrated with Lots of "water" ( I even have to drink water a few times during the night, I have to wake up and drink! so I don't dehydrate) and never allow myself to feel a hunger pang, I have to at least have a snack to carry me to my next meal. I'm in trouble if I don't. High protien meals help also. I have to start out my day with protien. If I don't I'm not feeling well after only two hours from eating. Then it's like I have to have a snack to hold me over till lunch.
I can never every skip a meal again. I used to be able to do that. Not anymore! And to think I'm trying to lose weight. IF I don't over eat, I think I'll be successful. By not allowing myself to get hungry, and IF I maintain healthy portions, then I'll be okay in losing the few extra pounds I put on because of a back injury. God help me. Too many health issues I've been dealing with these past 10 years! And to think! I used to lift weights and was in such good shape. But little did I know, I was ruining my blood by all that sugar I was addicted to! :-? Live and learn the hard way? I only wish I had someone to nag me into eating and drinking properly when I was younger!

I Hope you get better Nikki! Eat proper and stay hydrated. God Bless!

Oh, and don't allow your kids to be like you in being hooked on sugar! I would think that since you've become a nurse that you know better now, aye?
My daughter is in school for nursing. She is totally different in her perspective on health now that she's getting educated. I Thank my Holy Redeemer God! :-D

Tim,

I agree, it is an individual thing. And it is important to be aware that too much of anything doesn't always show immediate results. Some things takes years before the results show up. That's why I am dealing with hypoglycemia now, because when I was younger, it didn't affect me at all to have too much sugar or pop, or junk food. I thought I could eat whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. I was so skinny, it didn't matter what I ate, SO I THOUGHT. I could even skip meals without any problem at all. These problems didn't show up until I was 50!
Even though I had a few problems with anemia when I was younger, my blood sugars were fine until I hit my 50's. I know it's because I had so much sugar back then that now that I'm older and don't eat so much sugar anymore, my body is having a very difficult time adjusting to the decrease of all the junk sugars for 40 some years of eating junk foods. Candy, and pop and junk food, a junk food junkie was I! And to think I was a skinny junk food junkie! It's not much different than a junkie coming off of a drug. My body was so used to that junk I was feeding it. NOW in my older years in life. The body changes the way it processes. WE all have to adjust. I can no longer eat a half of a large pizza like I did when I was 20 and not gain any weight! And I was a tiny 5 foot 90 lb young lady when I was that young! Can't say I am so skinny anymore. I could stand to lose 20 lbs. The extra weight isn't doing my body any good. I'm not quite weaned off of the sugars. I'm working on it with sincere intent to be sugar free ASAP! My life depends on it!

While I agree that too much sugar is a bad thing, I also think that Timothy has a valid point. As Paul said, "All things are lawful, but not all things are profitable." For me, I can enjoy a Pepsi, as long as I don't go overboard, with no damaging side-effects. However, I've gotten to the point where I cannot have chocolate or else I get headaches. Many are saying now that chocolate, especially dark chocolate has many healthy anti-oxidants, but even one bite of Dove's dark chocolate will give me a headache.

And, it's very true that as we age, our bodies aren't a "forgiving" as they used to be. Pounds that used to melt away on a 2 week diet, don't any longer. The last few times I've tried to diet, my pounds called in reinforcements and I wound up weighing more that when I started! Of course, I have thyroid diease, so I have all the physical problems of a terrible diet, even when I eat as healthy as possible, do Subway rather than McDonald's if I must do "fast food" and keep "treats" (mainly Pepsi and pizza) as a "no more than once or so a week" treat.

I guess the key is to have over all healthy eating habits, and enjoy whatever "treats" as just that, a treat. Then if we need to forego any or even all "treats", we can do so.

The big kicker is that it's cheaper to eat junk food. A 20 oz Pepsi is a $1.30 while a 16 oz V8 Fusion, which I love, is $1.70 A bad of Cooler Ranch Dorito's is 99 cents while a bag of salid cost $2.00. Makes you think...

It would make you think even more, Young'un, if you could remember (as the old vogey's like Vic can) lettuce, tomatos, apples and such being the cheapest things at the grocer's.

I do believe that this is because the government subsidizes the ag products that go into the junk food.

I don't want to hijack Relic's thread, but here more food for thought:

handy,
What you posted is good advice and makes perfect sense! Wise older foggies know best! Cause they have no choice but to follow the TRUTH in God's word. It's after the fall that we come to REALLY value the TRUTH, THE WHOLE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH! Learnin the hard way.... sheesh!

Vic,

Have you ever tried stevia?
It too is a very good natural sweetener.

Here is a link to an informative site:

Thanks for all the good tips you posted. I too love Italian! so I don't count calories or carbs either. But I should watch those "starchy" carbs... not good for people who have to deal with hypoglycemia, but of course, you know that as well. Whole wheat and Rye breads are much better. I love italian bread, so that's another challenge for me. And meat! Oh my do I love a good Italian meat-a-ball and the sausages, the pizza, and the lasagnas and the oh my anything Italian food! I love it! My favorite thing to cook! But the meats are not too healthy if eaten al the time. IT's good to take a break from meat and go Italian veggitarian every so often. I'm trying to wean off of meats! Not easy! And nothing like washing down the meal with a pepsi! :o Lord, have mercy! Giving up my pepsi is so very difficult for me! I know it's poison! I used to drink so much of it. Sometimes up to a liter a day, or more! But now I've managed to cut it down to maybe one a week or on days I struggle too much with the withdrawls of it, I can get by with two a week. So I've learned to cut back a whole lot. Like I wrote above, I hope to be processed sugar free ASAP. I can't just quit cold turkey, that reaks havoc on me and it's not a good way to go when in withdrawl from processed sugar. So weaning is the only way I can do it. And since, knowing all that sugar is the root of all evil! I am very adamant on professing to clean up the eating habits once and for all.

And Yes, Us older foggies, we all know that when we get older, our bodies don't take no junk anymore! And if we don't listen to our bodies yelling at us! We lose, we have no say so anymore as to what we stuff into our mouths! It's listen to the will of the body. It even gets tired of all that sin! (gluttony) God knows us all too well. And we think we can tell our bodies what to do. Well, it doesn't show up till later in life that we were wrong all along! that we should have done it God's way! To listen to God's way of eating and living, that we would have be physically better off later in life. 8-) Yes, FATHER KNOWS BEST!

Here is another good page provided by the nutritionist Kenneth E. Loy, Jr., CN
I really appreciate him. And to boot, he's a Christian nutritionist!
:-D

Diets Don't Work
http://www.mybodyhistemple.com/mbht/atn/diets.html

But he does recommend the Daniel Diet. He says, It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle.

He also says, "This is not a fad diet, but an enjoyable, healthy lifestyle that God intended for us from the beginning. It can be called by many names:

My Body His Temple Lifestyle
Daniel Diet
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego Diet
Methuselah's Lifestyle
Antediluvian Diet
Pre-Flood Plan
Adam and Eve Diet
Eden Diet
Back to the Garden Plan
Genesis Diet
Original Diet
Vegan Diet
... "

Check out the page on his web site, He gives 10 guidlines to follow:

Did you know 120 million persons have been diagnosed as diabetics and twice the figure are susceptible to diabetes or approximately 10% of the urban population? 7.2% of the Australian population or 1.4 million people have diabetes, and that many again has it but have not yet been diagnosed; 1.5 million Canadians are diabetics and another 1 million don't realize it; 1 in 11 adult Singaporeans are diabetics; so are 20 million Americans and 16% of the Japanese population, and 54% of Americans are overweight.
Sugar, confectionary, jams, chocolates and carbohydrates (starches such as cereals, bread, pasta, rice) all contribute to increases in the blood sugar level.

Everything you've always wanted to know about Stevia but didn't think to ask.

source: Stevia facts

Stevia can be used to completely replace added sugar in our diet.

Thanks again.

No doubt stevia is a better alternative, but I noticed that site is a corporate site with the registered trademark, PureSweet®. :-? So while sitting here eating my BBQ chicken and (lean) ribs w/boiled potatoes, cabbage and carrots :-D , I found this:

http://www.stevia.net/

If you've ever tasted stevia, you know it's extremely sweet. In fact, this remarkable noncaloric herb, native to Paraguay, has been used as a sweetener and flavor enhancer for centuries.

Since the passage of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA), stevia can be sold legally in the United States, but only as a "dietary supplement." Even so, it can be found in many forms in most health-food stores, and is also incorporated into drinks, teas and other items (all labeled as "dietary supplements"). It cannot, however, be called a "sweetener" or even referred to as "sweet." To do so would render the product "adulterated," according to the FDA, and make it again subject to seizure.

The purpose of our Web site is to provide as much information about stevia as possible, from the scientific studies regarding its safety to the petitions submitted by the Lipton Tea Company and the American Herbal Products Association. Stevia.net will be an ongoing project for us at Body Ecology, so check back often, as we will be augmenting and updating this information frequently.
Ah, this is the kind of stuff that gets Trudeau all riled up. (yeah, I know "all" about him ;-) )

This is the product most Americans may have seen or used:
