The Yankees

I consider myself a tolerant person (don’t you consider me a tolerant person?), but I think it's time MLB move the Yankees to another city. I am partial to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which is close to where I was born and raised. However, it would make sense to move them here to Reno. We have a brand-new triple-A baseball ballpark, and I’m sure the Yankees would be welcome to use it. The Reno Aces could move to Yankee stadium.

It's sort of scary how many moderators and administrators on this site are Yankee fans. Maybe there should be a rule that for every moderator or administrator that is a Yankee fan, there has to be one who isn't.

I'm not following... why move a beloved team, know world-wide as a trademark of it's city of origin, to another city? How would that be good for baseball?

We feel it is in the best interests of the wonderful Yankee organization to have the beautiful backdrop of the serene, green, gently rolling hills of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, or mighty, majestic, Sierra Nevada mountains.

Problem is, kiddo, Yankees know if they leave the golden goose of New York, ESPN will have to treat them like any other team in MLB. Wut dos guys in NY gonna do wit no ESPN in dare back pocket, uh? fugettaboutit!

Maybe we could take up an offering with which to influence ESPN.

You do realize, Elijah, that the environmentalists would have a major protest if the Yankees moved westward .... you know how fanatical they can be about any major league pollution ....

Of course, I have all the respect in the world for the New York Yankees. They used to be a great franchise. Of course, it's been a long time since a Mickey Mantle came around, and even with Mickey Mantle, they were a disappointment.

Okay, I was a little overly critical about the Yankees during the Mickey Mantle era. They did win seven world series titles while he was active (1951-1968), though not one after 1962, and they've only won seven since then. Where are the Mickey Mantles, Joe DiMaggios, Lou Gehrigs, and Babe Ruths?

Mantle's last world series victory was in 1962. My St. Louis Cardinals beat the Yankees, 4 games to 3, in the 1964 series. My favorite player, Ken Boyer, was named the National League Most Valuable Player that year. At that juncture my Cardinals established themselves as the premier franchise in MLB, I think.

Probably the greatest Yankee of all time was Cletis Boyer. I wonder why he doesn't get more attention.
