[_ Old Earth _] Theist discussing genome sequencing

Anyone not being at the least bit intrigued by this, or flat out saying it is not supporting evidence, without any indication why, would be flat out denying it without rationalization.

If no one is interested in taking a look at the evidence and argue for or against it, what is the purpose of the thread?

Barbarian observes:
Well, let's take a look. Here's an actual photomicrograph of a human chromosome spread (female)
[snipped image]

Notice chromosome 2. Just like the drawing, um?

Maybe my eyes aren't as good as yours.

Guess not. But if you look carefully, you can see the same bands in both. Of course, scientists sequencing them can get a lot more precise than the fact that they look the same.

(Barbarian points out that the "chromosome" presented is actually two)

Just wanted you to know why yours didn't look like the real one.

It is producing a perfect replica of itself.

Highly unlikely. That's never been observed to happen. It would be very odd to see the replication go perfectly over that many nucleotides.

Your article did not address the problem of fusions producing only abnormalities, cancer, and cell death.

Oh, that's a misconception. It certainly produces changes, which I suppose you could classify as "abnormalities"; a human is a rather abnormal primate, for example.

At this point I feel like this thread has devolved into each of us posting the same thing over and over.

I asked several times for a reasonable explanation for this evidence other than a fusion. So far, I haven't gotten an answer.

You have not convinced me, or anyone else

Not being a proficient mind-reader, I can't say who's been convinced or not convinced, but I can tell that it's certainly enlarged your vision a bit. If you (or anyone else for that matter) can come up with a reasonable alternative to what the evidence shows, I'd like to see it.
