Theosophists

have infiltrated the churches. I am just now learning about what the word means but I think that I have seen it recently. Can anyone tell me anything about it? Has anyone had any experience with it?

Oh sophistry.

Yep I've seen it. Its the reason I left so many churches. There was an evangelical Church near me that had a youth group. Back when I was a Christine I took part in it allot, and help out when I could.

The Youth pastor ( who will remain nameless, because this was years ago and he might have seen the light ) would use chilldren to further his political agenda in the town, and guilt trip all those who disagreed or refused.

When ever a kid had a serious question, instead of disscussing it and helping the chilldren learn, the pastor would start tearing into the argument and questing the kids's faith, intelligence, etc.

In short, he never really answered questiosn, but instead reared the conversation into a humiliation.

I've seen this very pastor contradict himself with scripture, just to get what he wants done. He was good at argument, but bad at actual disscusion.

I talked to him on occastion, but When it came time for me to ask questions, it was more of the same tear down. This was before I took Philosophy, Critical Thinking, Debate, or Senior English, so I had no idea until latter what this guy did. He was a master of leading the conversation to where he wanted it.

I've avoided being near this man because of this, and fear for the chilldren in his congregation.

Theosophy is a doctrine of religious philosophy and metaphysics. Theosophy holds that all religions are attempts by the "Spiritual Hierarchy" to help humanity in evolving to greater perfection, and that each religion therefore has a portion of the truth. The founding members, Helena Petrovna Blavatsky (1831–91), Henry Steel Olcott (1832–1907), and William Quan Judge (1851–96), established the Theosophical Society in 1875.

helena blavatsky was a luciferian- this really is an occultic luciferian doctrine the way they teach it.

Theology - Study of religions of the world.

Sophistry - Tear down argument style that instead of disscusion for the sake of knoweledge, an attemtp to tear down your openent and use numerous fallacies in doing so. Also a tool used to make weak arguments look stronger then the apposing argument. Using lies, twisted words, or fudged data.

Theological Sophistry / Theosophy - Using religion/religous means to tear down an argument. Or to use sophistry within religion to gain your position.

GodspromisesRyes, you mentioned a Theosophy argument, but thats not entirely what Theosophy is. Its an attemtp to twist doctorine to a person's needs.

You presented an argument a Theosophist might use to fool non believers or ignorant believers. ;) :yes

Lance, I'm sorry to hear that your former youth pastor did that to you. Sounds like he was a stumbling block. :shame

Lance, there truly is a religious/philosophical group known as the Theosophists. You can read more about them here:

Perhaps Ronnie can be more specific if this thread is to be more about a rather underhanded debate technique or Theosophy which was indeed founded by Blavatsky, Olcott and Judge.

And, I also agree with JoJo. It's too bad you were influenced to leave the Church because of that. I've encountered someone similar in my past. It took quite a while to overcome the effects. Here's praying for both of you to better see the light! :smt056

My bad. Sorry for leading this thread off beat then. :lol

I didn't know of the religous sect, sounds similear to Uniterians. I'm so used to Theological Sophistry, so I thought maybe their was a mistake.

Oh well, I learned something new today.

Oh and Jojo, That pastor isn't the reason why I left " The Church", he's jsut the reason I left that perticular Church. ;)

Back to topic. :yes

I encountered these people who claim to be Christian occultists. I knew that these people existed but didn't know much about it. Anyway it makes me feel sick what they say about Christianity and Jesus.

I believe these people do use intimidating arguments and shrewd tactics against weaker people in order to break them into their way of thinking. They really have made the use of their tongues an art. It's a craft, witchcraft is what it really is. I also believe these people are numerous and have been using the churches as a way to address Christians for a very long time. Wolves in sheep's clothing no less.

Please beware of these deceivers.

I think Theosophy is probably no more prevalent in the Church than any other false doctrine/teachers. Probably, much less, unless you are referring to the underhanded debate technique. That seems prevalent in all forms of discourse today.

Frankly, I've never come across any Theosophists in my wanderings around the Body. The false teaching most prevalent that I've encountered has been the idea that "praise" and "worship" are specific types of music and if one is an old fogey who likes hymns, one is "putting the Spirit in a box" and hindering church growth.

But, that's a whole different topic!
