For young people who value being articulate but face the onslaught of those who aren’t and belittle this skill (insultingly calling them the “grammar police”), Dr. Peterson is very encouraging.


It’s a sad day for the culture when the uneducated attack the educated instead of wanting to improve themselves, but so it is. The power of being able to use words cannot be underestimated. God created the whole world from words. Jesus will slay the nations with words (sword out of his mouth.)

John and Paul were definitely articulate. God used the articulate to write His Word down. He is no more fond of intellectual laziness than any other kind of laziness.

What is interesting is that the men whom He used to write the most scripture were the most highly educated formally…Moses and Paul, for example. Being literate was a requirement. It’s easy to see why. Education trains the mind to think as well as formulate thoughts into words that accurately express the thought. The Jews were a literate people to whom reading and writing were essential.

It’s isn’t that those unable to obtain a formal education are less. It’s that everyone ought to value education and continue to pursue learning their life long. We ought not to distain those who are better educated that we are.

Well, all that excellent education enabled him to write more of what became the NT than anyone else. It was certainly valuable to God, but Paul was right not to think more highly of himself than was correct.
