Mrs. Barbarian never liked the concrete rear patio, so that was my chore for the week.

.
Brother Barbarian, you are retired, you do great work, but at a reasonable price?
Of course, until our wife is happy, maybe we can all agree with:
Pro 21:9 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house. :)

Depends. Something like this keeps me out of trouble for weeks.

Saying goes: "If Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy."

Great job :thumbsup

Nice Job Barbarian.

Thanks. There's just about nothing you might want to do, that someone hasn't posted a You Tube video explaining how to do it.

The biggest pain is cutting the pavers to fit edges. To my surprise, Ryobi makes a little grinder that uses batteries, and it did a magnificent job with a concrete cutting wheel. Went through batteries pretty fast, but I have all sorts of Ryobi tools, so lots of batteries available.

I once did a huge patio....something like 20 X 42.....with a small retaining wall. Half way done I thought...what was I thinking...and still had two lower levels to complete. I cheated....I bought a paver cutting saw and a vibrating tamper......also rented a bobcat to move the stone.

With a flat and properly drained concrete patio to start, I didn't need much. Used steel edging to lock the soldier rows, and used construction adhesive to hold down the pavers. Then I swept about 50 pounds of fine sand into the pavers to lock them securely without any play. Didn't bother tamping, since the underlayment was perfect already.

Given the specs for the adhesive, I figured the cost would be less than $36 for the job, and that was less than the cost of renting a tamper, which I would have had to do, if I put them on a base of sand.

There is a retaining wall on the right, leveling out the garden. The only trick to laying a low retaining wall, is to get the first row perfectly level, and to bury at least one stone completely to set the wall.
