Timeshares!

No I am not trying to promote them, but I am trying to get rid of one. I am wondering if anyone here has ever sold one and if so who you used and what the experience was. I have owned a timeshare for the better part of 8 years and have been kicking myself since the day I signed the papers. I came across one service that says they can "get you out of paying the maintenance fees" but the way this sounds is that you literally are giving up something that you have spent a considerable amount of money on without any kind of return, even at least the amount you spent on the package itself, much less anything you have paid in maintenance fees. I realize I will never see the maintenance fees again, but I would like to at least get some of the value back.

Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

Suggestion... Never trust a salesman.... Hold on a bit longer, the market hopefully will correct, and maybe you can then sell it...

The only thing I know about time shares is that my step-sisters dad had one in Hawaii when we were kids and would take her there every summer and spring break. I was incredibly jealous.

That's my 2 cents. It's probably closer to a cent and a half because I doubt it helps you at all. Good luck.

I wish mine was for a property in Hawaii, though I would still have to pay for air fare, but still.

I'm not going to be much help, either, because I see timeshares as being pretty much worthless, unless you can find someone who specifically wants that location at that time of year, every. That's why I never bought one. Once I discovered I wouldn't really "own" anything but the rights to use the place, I said "no thanks" and headed for the door. I know a lot of these firms let you trade your time with another member, so you don't have to go to the same place every year. But I'm not really sure that's such a big advantage.

No offense, I don't mean to denigrate your choice to buy one. It is just that the pricing for a timeshare is usually equal to if not more than the cost of a hotel room or a cottage in the same location at the same time. You're not really saving anything, and in fact because of maintenance fees and "use rights" are paying more than you should.

No offense taken. As I said I have been kicking myself ever since we got it. We have been able to use it, but it just has not fulfilled its promise of being usefull. Never should have bought it.

It can be an economical way of having the use of a condo in a vacation location.

That's the theory, but the reality is you pay ever increasing maintenance fees on something you can really only use once a year. Not a very good investment.
