Today's Media

Does it ever bug you guys that everything out there from television, Internet, news headlines and almost everything else is always focused on sin and other horrible things.

I can't watch one television show that does not mention sexuall things or watch the news without hearing of sinful things.

I think our world has turned evil and sin into ratings :sad

The Bible says the whole world is under the control of evil one (1 John 5:19) so it shouldn't surprise us .... :shrug

The media has always been about ratings and entertainment. I think before our society-wide narcissism exploded, there were things (norms, morals, customs, common decency) that held back such wickedness, but now...not so much.

What's really amazing to me is how the media now turns the utterly inane into news. Lindsay Lohan's back in jail/on drugs? OMG--call in Dr.Drew; clearly, this requires insightful analysis. Meanwhile, the economy has tanked, millions are unemployed, there's still no cure for cancer, and all the potential presidents seem woefully inadequate.

But, back to your initial post...this is nothing new. Standards of decency have been changing and/or crumbling for decades now. The pace has just accelerated lately, what with the porn-ification of our culture and all. I'm 27. A lot of stuff that passes for entertainment wouldn't have cut it when I was in high school. What's frightening is to think where this will lead. Just how stupid and over-sexed will our media become (and then make us) ?

Yeah I completely agree, this is what I myself and my generation see everyday and it's sickening. It's becoming the "norm" and it is honestly disturbing from reality shows (like jersey shore) to news headlines all the attention goes out to the low life people who do nothing good.

Just looks like a horrible example when this is what people see life and show my generation what life is. When it's no where close to What examples we should be following.

It's because the left has taken over and is firmly entrenched in the media. Virtually every piece of mainstream media you come accross is controlled by one of only five companies, all of which have a liberal agenda. Not only do all their programs have a liberal bias, but conservative actors are forced to hide their political opinions if they want to work. There was a conservative actor who auditioned for St. Elswhere who was told right to his face that they wouldn't hire anyone who supported Reagan, so they gave the part to Howie Mandell instead.

The most tellingt example is Mel Gibson. What was it that he did that was so wrong? He got drunk and spouted off that Jews controlled Hollywood. Now he's a complete pariah and can't get work, he was even kicked off of The Hangover II. The actors refused to work with Gibson but had no problems at all working with a convicted rapist (Mike Tyson). At the same time, all of Hollywood stands by Roman Polanski; all Polanski did was drug and rape a 13 year old girl. Gibson's real crime is that he's conservative, his drunken rant is just an excuse to blacklist a popular conservative actor. If he had stumped for Obama or Clinton it wouldn't have even been a speed-bump for his career.

Today’s media is so frustrating to me. They play shows that talk down to people and we have hit a point where the news doesn’t just talk about famous people, it talks about movies and shows. How is this news? The part that really gets to me is we seem to help it along. I for one do not have cable or any other TV type subscription. I can’t understand why people on a wider level just don’t stop paying for these packages that bring in to your home a message contrary to your belief. Sure in this day and age stuff comes in to your home and you may not have full control of it. It seems to me if all Christians would say, “you know what, keep itâ€. This single move could make the “entertainment community†have a moment to reflect. Frankly as dumbed down as TV and movies have gotten I am surprised non- Christians take it. In the end we can not just blame media though; people are in many fashions buying this stuff. It is the market, the market represents a bit of a pulse of society. The part that is sad is how and where some Christians help.

You have to look at who produce this.

TV/Media leads people astray, some of the stuff they release are plain disgusting.
Anyway, the leading astray is that people think that what the TV shows,is what really goes on in the world, that these things really happen.
People are under control of sin,not the devil - sin.

The way it works with the media is that people will consider what is been shown on TV as been bad but will not blame the people who produce it.
It is Just like pornography.
People are disgusted with Pornography, the actors and actresses but have a lack of disregard for who produces it...

News headlines,News programs have their own problems - They tell you important news, all news - but they do not tell you ALL NEWS!

People will believe what they see on TV and take it as fact,no questions asked.

Ms Jenny:

There is always the 'off' switch.

So many media folk assume they are the center of attention. No need to dignify them with making them the center of attention.

Maybe if we read our Bibles more and paid attention to the media less, we would all be more healthy spiritually.

What about Hollywood Idolatry?

The celebrities that Christians admire?
