Please pray for Trayvon's family. What do you think about this horrible tragedy ? ( please excuse the double post)

Such a sad story. A young lad armed with a packet of Skittles, "suspicious" because of the way he looked... May God have mercy on us all.

We don't need to limit this to just the Martin family. There are countless people to pray for.

George Zimmerman and his family. Not only for Mr Zimmerman's gross lack of judgement, but also for being subjected to so much rush to judgment, impartial media coverage, and racial hate mongering.

We need to pray for some in every community who are, in my opinion, being used to further the the industry of race victimizing groups of people, by so called leaders like Al Sharpton and Jessy Jackson.

We need to pray for an end to all fear and ignorance to be replaced with love and understanding.

Hate is a dead end road. It starts with hurt that manifest into anger and rots into hate. It feels good at first, but there are signs in the hearts of every man that says; "THIS IS NOT A THROUGH STREET!" Because there is only one way out when we reach the end of the road of hate, and that's the path of forgiveness. That is the only way back to the right road of redemption.

Luke 6:27-36

Love for Enemies

27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.

1 John 3:15

15 Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him

I think Zimmerman was just charged with 2nd degree murder. Whether he will be convicted is up to the jury. I tried to stay as far back and nonjudgmental of this case as possible, but there is a point where when an unarmed person is shot to death, and all the evidence around it showing that even if Trayvon attacked Zimmerman, its still stinks of either Manslaughter or 2nd degree. I just want the media circus to be over though for the sake of both families.

devils advocate. what if said shooter was some elderly lady in fear of life or limb?

i can beat the tar out of some men who are smaller then me and if was bashing their brains in they could if they felt that i wouldnt stop then take my life and rightly so if they cant stop me. one can use blunt trauma with fist to take a life.

If it was an elderly women, then she could have a case. The main problem around this is that Zimmerman confronted Trayvon after the 911 dispatch said it was unnecessary, and there is the 911 tape of Trayvon screaming for help in the background until the gunshot. The later would be grounds for a trial whether or not it was an elderly lady or anyone I'm sure.

The experts, both of whom said they have testified in cases involving audio analysis, stressed that they cannot say who was screaming.

so well i believe the lawyer of his will eat that up. a hoodie isnt exactly an innocent person. they are gangsters. i dont have those in my poor neighborhood, but that doesnt justify his death. i will await the trial to see went on and then make up my mind.

a hoodie isnt exactly an innocent person. they are gangsters.

A hoodie is a garment. A garment that is almost universally popular right now. I would challenge anyone to find any junior high to high school kid in any junior high or high school in America that doesn't have at least one, if not several.

My own kids have hoodies... hoodies are as basic to their wardrobe as their tennis shoes.

As you know, my son is black. He's only 12, but he stands 5' 7" and weighs in at 160. He's a big kid.

So...it's OK for others to assume he's a gangster, simply because he wears one of the most common fashion garments in the nation right now.

Is anyone going to assume that Viola or any of Thomas' white friends are gangsters when they wear their hoodies?

I know, Jason, I know... which is why we tell him, unless it's raining, to keep the hood down. I watched him walking "home" (to the in-law's house in town) a few weeks ago, his buddies with their hoodies up and his with his down. It's sad, because they're all just kids... but, because he's black, he can't do that... because so many will simply believe he's a gangster, even though they won't assume the same thing about his white friends. :sad

in mma i see alot of teens and none of them in the hot Florida sun would wear that. that would be one hot.so hear that is unusual. remember sanford isnt about two hours away. so the temp is about the same. florida had no winter. trust me our lows during the worst didnt even touch 20.

This is sad, Mr Z should have backed off the second the 911 operator told him to. that said it seems consistent that he was at some level of volunteer to that area.

Hoodies are under attack as well, think about that, what you wear is a bad thing, in the USA, really? that is an issue as well. I heard there was rain, makes sense to wear it. an even if there was not, so what.

and in the end, there is attack on gun use as well. that affects us all, even if you do not own a weapon.

here it is a nut shell, what ever happens will not be enough, ever. and people that need to defend themselves have loss as well.

prayer needs to go to whole matter, the ripple affect will be felt for some time to come.

Its not as unusual as you think Jason. My daughter and her kids live in Brooksville, which is not that far from y'all, and they wouldn't think of leaving home without the hoodies. Hot or not- it doesn't much matter. When it gets REAL hot they'll just cut off the sleeves but the hoods will still be up. Doesn't make sense to me either but I KNOW my parents said the same about some of the things I did. Hoodies are just part of our kids culture now. Even in the Florida or Texas heat.

Yep... we get cold here in the winter but by May it can be pretty doggone hot here as well... and the kids will still wear the hoodies. In CA and AZ it's much much hotter, and the hoodies are still worn.

I think hoodies are a lot like tattoos used to be. It used to be that only "rough" people had tatts... sailors, Hell's Angels, bar types... now even middle aged church ladies are getting them... I know because I noticed a new tattoo on the ankle of a woman I go to church with when I was in church last week.

Hoodies are the same. Maybe there was a time when only hardened gangsters would wear them... but not any more... they are the hottest thing in fashion right now.

If Martin had been a gangster and had a rap sheet a mile long, perhaps Zimmerman's claims would be more believable. But, except from getting into some trouble at school, Martin was clean. Authorities have confirmed that he had no criminal record. Michelle Kypriss, Trayvon's English teacher, said that he was an A and B student who majored in cheerfulness*....and that rings true. You can see it in his eyes and in his smile, he was a pretty happy kid. He wasn't any gangster.

Now that Zimmerman has been arrested, hopefully this case will work its way through court and not become a circus as so many Florida court cases become. Sorry Jason and other Floridians, but what is it with your court system down there!

I agree with the sentiments that much prayer for both families is needed here. Prayer for Zimmerman who probably intended to stop someone who he thought was up to no good and prayer for Trayvon (and family) who probably thought he was about to be mugged.

I pray that the real Truth comes out though and that Zimmerman not lie on the life of a dead teen. Some things he states like Trayvon saying "tonite you die" seems like a line taken from those old afrocentric 70's gangers type movies. It doesn't really fit with Tray's profile, especially when we know that Tray called and begged his father to go to the store that nite. What "gangster" would ask dad for permission to leave the house?

Whatever the outcome, the lives of probably 2 "good" human beings and their families are forever changed.

no its the media. today a mass murderer was put to death for killing 6 women but charged with one, he tortured them before he killed them he was on death row for 28 yrs.

that said, if zimmerman was black he wouldnt even be in the news outside of orlando., for a whole week this man has been more attentive to me.

I'm glad your son is a good kid, and that his friends are good kids. Yes, hoodies are just garments, but how they're percieved depends entirely on where and how the kids wear them, and how the kids behave. Here in Connecticut, and specifically Hartford, there is definitely an image kids cultivate which they think is cool, and part of "cool" is in fact "predator." It's sometimes a young, male, macho, threatening image.

I've mentored two such teen boys for about six years, who for a long time where really, really into that image. As they gotten older, and been part of our mostly black church congregations, they've decided it's not the image they want after all. Probably just part of the growing up process, they're 19 years old now.
