Turning 18

Turning 18 does not make you an adult!
Some are just being brash!
Temerity!

Children feel on top of the world when they turn 18. It is just like a dream come true They think 'we have arrived' and 'it is time to compete with our parents'.

*I am 18 today, mom, don't tell me that!
*I am not a baby anymore - I am 18.
*My decision, not yours, 'cause I am 18.

Most American families are having this problem (phobia...and not just Americans - most nations): my son or daughter is turning 18. Can we control him/her? Are we gonna lose him/her? is s/he gonna drift away? Volition!

Do we blame our constitution - do we blame the government? Turning 18 really drives some completely crazy.:sad

Although few are mature enough to take decisions at 18+ (good decisions) yet 18 is not an advanced age at which that son or daughter can speak of having learned much. Learning ends when death knocks.

Man 18 was boring...

16 I could drive.
17 I could go see the good movies and buy the fun games.
18... well I don't smoke.

Only thing worse than 18 was 19 and then subsequently 20. And Lord 21 is gonna be just as boring.

Constitution has nothing to do with it though that is a case law issue. And it has a purpose. Where would you rather cut the line where people FINALLY become responsible for themselves in a legal way?

It's good. You have to learn responsibility at some point. Sure you may have some kids who get it in their heads but honestly most don't. It's more of a Hollywood induced stereotype than a reality.

Good heavens! Man, Pard, where did you emerge from? I thought you were raptured? Did God send you back telling you you have work to do here?:lol
What ever happened, thanks to the east wind that blew you back.

18 is quite insane. Perhaps you were one of the cool guys at 18 and 18+

I see a world full of 40 somethings who are spiritually immature, if you live in a godless world you will NEVER grow up, I see 5 year olds in the church who have more wisdom and spiritual insight and moral common sense than many 'wordly' 40 year olds.

This world makes the Christian spirits who come into dumber. These rulers of this world poision your foods to make you dumber, but also, they spiritually attack you to make you dumber, also. They love to make people dumb, and then hate them for it. Christ makes people smart, and then humbles them for it.

Turning 18 just gives some legal rights that change over time. When I turned 18 we could legally drink, now I think it's 21 in most places.

It's common and normal for kids as they get into the older teens to start seeking adulthood, it is a bad parent that tries to keep them in the nest. Yes, they make stupid mistakes, so a parent must try to guide them and protect them and let them make mistakes.

The job of a parent is to become unneeded...

It's obvious culture changes some with each generation. Even when I was a teen in the 80's, we seemed much more mature than teens today. Heck, I was paying rent to live at home at 18 and out on my own by 19. Children on average are living with parents into their mid 20's today. Compare that to my grandmother, married at 14, 3 kids by age 20, 14 kids total...She got up at that young age to start a woodstove, feed animals, cook, etc...

I'm 18 right now, and although actually turning 18 doesn't really mean much, a lot of things that happen since I've turned 18 have forced me to become an adult. I've moved across the ocean to study, and so I have to do all the chores, cooking, grocery shopping along with keeping up with all the studying. It really forces me to become more mature and responsible.
