Understanding Psalms 23

Hello all. The ever inquisitive soccer freak, classik! LOL

Alright. Anyone understands the verse-to-verse meaning of the verses of the great Psalm 23 we chant each day?

tnx in advance

Speak for yourself about this chanting stuff.

Kidding aside, Psalm 23 is so such a beautiful picture of a believer's relationship with God. It's speaks of grace and mercy all through the verses.

David was a shepherd and used this analogy to describe how the Lord, as our Shepherd, cares for us. The shepherd provides and protects the sheep. It goes on to describe a blessed abundant life with Christ as our Shepherd.

John 10:14 " I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me
Philippians 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus
John 4:14 but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."
John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

I have to leave, but I'll be back later to finish.

im stuck on these family being laid to rest on that verse. jews use psalms 23 for funereal rights and recite with the Kaddish during the memorial.

not really. though I walk in the valley of the shadow of death, I shall not fear no evil, for thou art with me.
though I walk through the shadow of...

i think this verse tries to tell us that no matter the condition we are in the Lord is with us - and we cant get harmed. A shadow actually has not effect on people. The shadow of a flying sword cant kill. The sahdow of a roaring lion cant kill...

You see that.

1 Corinthians 15:56-57 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
John 14:2 In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.
Acts 2:4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
1 John 4:19 We love because he first loved us.
John 14:2......again

I've attended funerals where this verse was read, a few of them. In fact, I first associated this verse to funerals so I'm glad you brought this up, we must have adopted the practice.

the whole Psalms 23 thing doesnt sound like a dirge to me.

Perhaps: Fading away like the stars of the morning stuff is better :chin
