Romans 5:14 speaks of it too

Romans 5:14
14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.../

See? it calls Adam, a figure of Him that was to come, rather than a type, but it's the same.

In the letter to the Colossians Paul noted that many of the institutions and commands revealed under the Law of Moses were, “things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ” Colossians 2:17. The same thrust is found in Hebrews 10:1 “For the Law, since it has only a shadow of the good things to come and not the very form of things”. In reference to the tabernacle in the Old Testament, the Hebrew writer notes that the Levitical priests served, “a copy and shadow of the heavenly things’” (Hebrews 8:5).

I'm pretty sure the Passover was a shadow of the last supper/crucifixion. God's firstborn died.

Scripture itself tells us that Christ is our Passover. Every aspect of the lamb which was slain by the Israelites represented Christ. Therefore the observance of Passover is now null and void. Instead we have the Lord's Supper.

Also, the application of the blood of the lamb on the door posts and lintels has deep spiritual significance. Unless the blood of Christ is applied to our souls supernaturally by God, we cannot have remission of sins, and freedom from guilt.

Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. (Rev 1:5,6).

I appreciate your going to these specifics and they lend weight to your argument. But you did say in the OP, 'Jesus is on almost (if not all) every page of the OT'. That is a gross exaggeration - hyperbole.

If the silence about the birth and death of Melchizedek is a type itself, then how can we possibly number them?

That hardly supports the claim that types and shadows of Christ are found on or nealy on every page of the OT. Not to mention it would depend on how large these pages are.

There are at least 4 different interpretations of 1 Cor 10:3, 'And did all eat the same spiritual meat'. This is not the place to discuss these. They are articulated by Charles Hodge in A Commentary on 1 & 2 Corinthians (Edinburgh/Carlisle, Pennsylvania: The Banner of Truth Trust, 1974), pp. 172-174. See HERE.

We see Israel's example in 1 Cor 10:1-5 (NIV) and that example applied by giving a warning against idolatry (1 Cor 10:6-13 NIV).

In vv 1-5, it is a powerful type with the language of 'our fathers' and their form of 'baptism' and the 'Eucharist'. It prefigured our baptism and the Lord's Supper.

What was the purpose of the type given from the OT and articulated in 1 Cor 10:1-5 (NIV)? It continues with some of the events in Exodus to warn the Corinthians (vv 6, 11-12). These Corinthians enjoyed blessings like those of Israel but the Corinthians were in danger of losing those blessings because of their idolatry: 'Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. Do not be idolaters....' (1 Cor 10:6-7a NIV).

These things in Exodus happened to be examples to the Corinthians 'so, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall' (1 Cor 10:12 NIV).

That's my understanding of this type. But it is important to realise that it is only a type or shadow because it is specifically mentioned as such in the NT. We are not left to speculate that types and shadows are on nearly every page of the OT. That isn't true.

Yes, there are types and shadows that are mentioned in the NT that draw attention to examples from the OT, but the NT has to mention them as examples to make them types.

Well look at it this way. Almost every page of the OT has the word LORD (YHWH) or LORD God (Yahweh Elohim), or God (Elohim), or the Almighty (El Shaddai). Those are all references to Christ, not in type or shadow but in reality.

But even the types and shadows are quite numerous (provided we are prepared to get beneath the surface, and look for deeper meanings in seemingly ordinary things or people). Christians generally do not get too involved with these things. Is Noah's Ark a type of Christ? Absolutely, although it is not referred to as such. We know that the Rock struck by Moses was a type of Christ. We can see Christ typified in the life of Joseph. And we could go on, and on.

Edward i was a little kid yup i once was...In Sunday School we had the story of Baby Moses in his little basket and i saw the connection to Noah's ark ...And then the Arc of the covenant... Mommie Mommie guess what ..


What i came to understand is the Word of God is connected ... It is not a stack of readers digests bundled together... It is more then just His words

Enjoy what the Lord is showing you... Yea ya may go over board for a bit just enjoy it..
