'Us' vs 'Them'

'Us' represents the people of our own generation or say (1700 - 2012+),
While 'them' represents the people of the Old Testament (Genesis to Judges, maybe).

I have been thinking about all the wonders performed by God for the Children of Israel. God was almost physically present with them:

*And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them in the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night:

Remember these:
*The plague against the Egyptians
* Manna
* Crossing the Red Sea
* Water from the rock
* Victory in battles
* Noah's ark
* They heard the voice of God
etc etc etc etc

In spite of all these wonders majority of the people (them) doubted God. They disobeyed God, looked down on HIM, etc....

We (us) don't see these kind of wonders today: yet we trust God. We only read about the wonders done by GOD in the OT; though a few of us have seen miracles, divine touch, wonderful encounters. All these are nothing compared to what happened during the OT, to me.

I want to draw a conclusion that our 'us' has greater faith than their 'them'.

How can I Cross a Red Sea and not die for God, defending my faith?
How can I hear HIS Voice and doubt HIS existence?
He preserved me in the ark. How can I doubt HIM?
He gave me manna. etc

If you witness all these would you doubt HIM???? I won't, I don't think so.

I think in either circumstance--seeing an OT-esque miracle or experiencing a personal relationship and communion with God as we do today, Satan knows how to play on our doubts and weaknesses and will do so.

I suppose it is saying something to say you believe in something you haven't actually seen, though.

I'd say that experiencing a relationship with God is just as real as seeing a miracle. In my case, it's what kept me from turning away from Christianity, what convinced me that my faith isn't in vain. I have still had doubts of a different sort sometimes since then, though.

In all fairness though, they also believed in the Pantheon. It took awhile for them to understand that YHVH was LORD of all the earth especially when the cultural norm was that each God has his geographical territory. This is why you find it written in so many places that the Lord is One, or the Lord is God of the Gods etc.

This is also why Jacob says, Genesis 28:16 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.

Are we really any different than they were?

How much faith do we put into the grace provision that makes us overcome sin??? We come from Egypt as well in that we were once slaves to sin and know the world and the ways of the world very well. But will we see the giants in the land (our sins) as too great for the power of God to destroy?

Are we really apprehending the power of the gospel to walk as Jesus walked? Are we living from our new lives in Christ or still falling back into a life that we have always known and that is patterned from what men can do.
