Use Of FACEBOOK Destroys Marriages

Those looking for trouble will find it with, or without facebook. One thing not mentioned. If you or your spouse are tempted to flirt then there are simple actions one can take. The use of a filter, similar to those found on my website at cybersafetyseminar.com are very helpful in sending out emails when certain activity occurs. It can help those tempted stay accountable.

Facebook does NOT destroy marriages, it is the will and actions of people within that marriage that do. Without God as the center....a marriage cannot hope to survive let alone last.

I said my piece early on, but as this topic goes on, I feel I need to say a little more. Facebook isn't destroying marriages, and it isn't evil. Money isn't evil; the "love of money" is evil. Facebook is an inanimate object that is used for good and for bad just as everything can be. Anything in the reach of someone who is bent on doing wrong can be leveraged to do wrong. Money, a computer, a camera, a cell phone, etc.; there's nothing inherently good or bad about them. But they can be used for good and for bad.

As sinful people, the more opportunity to do things in the privacy of our home can yield itself to greater temptation. Back when I was growing up, we had one corded phone in the living area. Trying to have a conversation with a girl when my parents were around was... awkward. Now you have cordless phones to move to a private area of the house, and cell phones to move a private place anywhere. With much power comes much responsibility, and buyer beware. Again, these aren't bad things, and they don't destroy lives, but the access to private conversations can present a greater need to resist temptation.

I'm pretty much anonymous to everyone but a few people on this board. The internet has heightened anonymity on all fronts, allowing people to do almost anything without others knowing, but this doesn't mean the computer is evil or destroys lives/marriages, and it isn't good and doesn't improve them. It just is, and it's important to be true to the Lord in using it.

There's my additional :twocents :)

Personally, I think Facebook is overrated. :gah

This is pretty much my thoughts as well. I'm tired of people blaming others. Blaming God or blaming Satan. No one forces us to do anything. Kind of a tangent but when I was at Bible college, people always used "the Lord's will" for everything regarding relationships.

"We felt like it was the Lord's will to start dating."

two weeks later...

"We broke up. It was the Lord's will."

I'm not saying that God doesn't have a plan and that He's not involved in our daily lives, because He really is. BUT He also gives us free will to choose. Your two week relationship didn't work out because you guys maybe weren't right for each other, not because God is controlling your lives like a puppetmaster.

So same goes for Facebook. It's all about choice. You can choose to look for and talk to an ex-boyfriend (or ex-girlfriend) thus leading to the breakdown of your marriage or you can not. Period.

Facebook does not destroy marriages, it is the person on Facebook. We all have weaknesses. If someone has a weakness for pornography, I don't recommend Facebook because the thought of sex will grow into more.

Just like I wouldn't recommend a recovering alcoholic going into a bar. It's the same thing.

I've been on Facebook for years and have been completely loyal to my wife. I use it to connect with old friends.

I think it isn't helpful do either defend or demonize Facebook. The fact is that yes, people cheat out of their own desires, but don't be dense...Facebook ain't helping. The article is calling attention to the danger. Whether Facebook is good or evil isn't the point!
The point is "there's a snake in the grass! Watch out!"
It's a warning!
