Focus on the Family addresses the use of biblical principles in parenting and marriage to strengthen the family.

Visited a church today

I walked out before they got to the sermon.
Thankfully, I sat in the back row and I had a clear shot to the door.

Have you ever walked out of a church service before?

The Lord will make a straight path for anyone who chooses to trust God rather than himself (Proverbs 3:5-6). When an opportunity is blocked, God has a reason. And He is providing love and protection, even in your disappointment. The Lord is also keeping His promise to work everything for your good (Romans 8:28). When one door has closed, a greater one is about to open. Be wise and watch for it.

The only service I've walked out of was one when just I and my two kids attended, while my wife was visiting family out of town. The kids became such screaming monsters I couldn't quiet them down.

Nope...not even when the pastor referred to himself in the third person.
He must of been having an out of body experience.

Did ya give them a chance at all?
Yes. I really did.
But also the Spirit was definitely confirming my feeling that there's nothing here.

You're gutsy. I would have stayed through just about anything till the end
I've done that far too many times. I don't waste the time anymore. When I know it's wrong, I'm out. I've done this before. Prayer time is a good time to slip out--everyone's eyes are closed.

Does that mean I can walk out during end times sermons?
I would't expect anything less from you. :lol

Yes I have many times
Being carried out by the ushers does not count.

So what made you walk out? Was it the music?
Definitely the music. It was loud crashy music in a room with lousy acoustics. But it was more than that. The worship came across as fake and forced. YUCK! I hate that.

This is actually what I needed to hear right now. I was thoroughly bummed out by the experience. Thank you.

I've walked out to use the restroom, but I came back.
Next time I will squirm like I have to go, then they won't find it strange that I'm leaving the sanctuary.

What sent you out?
Crappy, loud music. Howling and whistling and obnoxious clapping. Not howling like an animal but the woot-woot kind. Sorry, but I find those things to be a totally inappropriate response to a genuine encounter with God. They are obnoxious for me, and that's enough for me personally to not be around that.

Bottom line.....I did not sense this was a place where God was going to meet me.

I'm just glad you're in the search, my brother. You'll find it.

Had found a good teaching church in town a while back but the pastor seemed to be out of town more than in town, and there was no interaction between members of the congregation....well besides the 'hi, how are you' kind of stuff on the way in and out.

I've walked out of one service where song after song was sung for about 10 minutes each. The people started swaying during the 3rd song, and those around me had eyes that were somewhat glazed over. There was a surreal atmosphere surrounding everyone. The Spirit told me to run out of there...not merely walk....as it was not a healthy place to be.
