It seemed everyone (especially those who were against what HE taught) labelled CHRIST a troublemaker...

Looking at what those guys tried to defend or protect, the laws of the OT, it seemed they were only interested in trying to stop CHRIST from modifying the law which they protected (the law that was written exactly the way it was written). So they kind of saw CHRIST as an I'm-not-comfortable-with-your-books kind of Person.

He still is today in the sense that His teaching goes against what most of society desires.

Bad people don't want Jesus to be their King:

"Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision." Psalm 2:1-4 KJV

They will soon find out the depth of their error:

"And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:" For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?" Revelation 6:15-17 KJV

"It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." Hebrews 10:31 KJV

I don't think they were trying to protect the laws. I think they were trying to protect their traditions, the things they had added to the law.
Every time they spoke of the law trying to prove that Jesus was a violator of the law, He gave them the true meaning of the law.
Boy that made them mad!! They knew He was right.

Any time you challenge the traditions of men you cause trouble. It happens right here in this forum.

Gal 1:10
"For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? or am I striving to please men? if I were still pleasing men, I should not be a servant of Christ."

That sounds like trouble.

The Pharisees thought he was as in Matthew 23:1-39 Jesus characterizes and then condemns them.

well, let's see...... there were about 19-- years of tradition (building,re-inforcing,supporting,creating evidence for for future generations) since the wolves Paul wrote about sought to tear apart the flock.
that's a long time for all of our ancestors to have been raised in 'traditions' that weren't in line with what Jesus taught, nor in line with what the followers of Jesus practiced, taught and lived.
so, it's not big surprise that most multitudes of people today don't recognize, seek, or accept Jesus or the truth from God when , if ever, they hear or see it. it is much much more comfortable to keep things as they have been, and manageable, even understandable, instead of letting some voice crying in the wilderness, some vagabond preachers of the true Gospel Good News of Jesus, affect them and upset their lives.
