Melchizedek in the Old Testament is spelled as Melchisedec in the New Testament.
Jesus was not Melchisedec, His priesthood was after the order of Melchisedec; in other words it was the same type of priesthood. That priesthood of Melchisedec didn't have a beginning of days; there is no record of his birth or death, and no family history was needed such as with the Aaronic priesthood requiring they be a Levite. There was no ending of days for Melchisedec's priesthood such as the 20 year duration of the Aaronic priesthood. Melchisedec was a king, and Jesus is a king; the earthly kingdom of Jerusalem was not the heavenly Jerusalem.
Hebrews 7:3 says Melchisedec was "made like unto the Son of God;" abideth a priest continually. Why would Melchisedec have to be made like unto the Son of God if He was the Son of God? We also are changed from glory to glory into the image of Christ, and our lives like unto the Son of God has no end.

Quote from my pastor Jesse O'Dorosio - Jesus was not just the son of man; He is the Son of God, halleluiah. He is without sin, He is from the order of Melchisedec, His ordination was not of man but an oath from God, and His title and office are forever.
Hebrews 5:3. "And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins." I want to make this third verse very clear that it is speaking of Aaron here offering the sacrifice for the people, and obviously, Aaron had to offer the sacrifice for himself and his own sins because he was merely the priest at that time. He was not I AM, the complete, or it is finished priest, and He was not the fullness of Melchisedec in being a priest-king. Here again we see the weakness of the Levitical priesthood magnifying the need of our superior high priest Jesus Christ.
Melchizedek was a type of Christ because he was a priest king, but Christ is our great priest king. Turn to Genesis 14:18. "And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God." Now if you have a Scofield Bible, there is a wonderful note and I am going to read this for you that he references here. It says and I quote, "Melchizedek, a type of Christ the King-Priest. The type strictly applies to the priestly work of Christ in resurrection, since Melchizedek presents only the memorials of sacrifice, bread and wine. After the order of Melchizedek refers to the royal authority and unending duration of Christ's high priesthood. The Aaronic priesthood was often interrupted by death. Christ is a priest after the order of Melchizedek, as King of righteousness, King of peace, and in the endlessness of His priesthood; but the Aaronic priesthood typifies His priestly work." Praise God. Now, where Scofield said and I love this, that the "Aaronic priesthood was often interrupted by death;" you get that there, right? You know, whether it was Aaron, Samuel or whoever the high priest was, they died, though they really did not die, they just fell asleep in Christ. It is as Jesus said; you guys do not understand this, but Lazarus is dead. All those priests died and their priesthood ended, but Christ has an unending priesthood.
Hebrew 7:1-3. "For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; 2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; 3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually."
These first three verses obviously compare Jesus with Melchisedec, and let us turn again to Genesis 14:18-20 to introduce this great Melchisedec. "And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. 19 And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: 20 And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all." Melchisedec was so great he blessed Abraham, and Abraham acknowledged him as God's anointed priest and king. He was a priest-king, his name means, "the king is righteous," he is a descendent of Shem, he was king of Salem, and Salem is the oldest name of what we now call Jerusalem.
Melchisedec's priesthood was for all the people including the Gentiles, whereas Aaron's priesthood was just for Israel. Melchisedec's priesthood was not limited to twenty years as Aaron's, but was continual not having a beginning of days, or ceasing due to an end of his life, and that priesthood was like Jesus: the same yesterday, today, and forever. His priesthood had no predecessors or successors, and was superior to Aaron's in every way because even death could limit Aaron's priesthood and passed from father to son. Aaron was of the priestly tribe of Levi and paid tithes in Abraham who then gave a tenth of the spoils to Melchisedec. These are points about our wonderful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Again, this is Paul convincing his kinsmen of the superiority, and the better that is found in Christ.
Blessings in Christ Jesus.
