Fran,
Below is a quote of YOUR OWN:
Yet again, you are confused. Tertullian was not "introducing" anything. He was writing a letter to a person such as yourself. Utterly confused on who God is. He thus drew upon what was taught before by the Apostles and their understanding of Scriptures. Tertullian himself was certainly not introducing new teachings, but giving a coherent writing that had not been addressed so extensively before, although bits and pieces are found in the writings of Christians well before him.
Well now, let's see, Fran. If what Tertullian wrote was BASED on the teachings and understandings of the apostles, these words in themselves offer what I ACCUSED you of. If this 'triune nature' was UNDERSTOOD by the apostles, then it was certainly TAUGHT by the apostles. Yet we KNOW that this is NOT SO. It is YOU that have made the claim that Tertullian was simply elaborating on the understanding of the apostles.
Wait, maybe I AM confused as to your words. Perhaps you are refering to DIFFERENT apostles?
You CANNOT have it both ways. Either 'trinity' WAS taught by the apostles or it wasn't. Now, let us get at least THIS MUCH clear: Did the APOSTLES teach 'trinity' or NOT? It's a simply question, how about a SIMPLE answer?
Blessings,
MEC
