Bull, thank you...What an awesome question! You really got my attention on this one. I have lived through a lot (am 81) and I don't think I can really answer that. To say, as a nation, I have seen days of unity and strength especially on the home front during and after W.W.II is not sufficient. Unity..e.g. Psalm 133, does bring the blessing and we right now as a nation are far from that.
However, I think this is still the present mandate although often quoted it is always worth repeating so to remind ourselves individually and as the Church... II Chronicles 7:14 - "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." (NIV) And so, this is the closest I can come to answer your question...God will heal if we follow II Chronicles 7:14. Please note the underlining of "If" and "then".. God's healing is how the blessing will come but only "If"...and "then"...I believe it!

along the same lines, when i go over to the Charisma website, I get...more than a little concerned...about the glorification of Trump and the demonization of all who oppose him.

Yes, you have nailed it here! I really struggled with what all I was hearing (not from my pastor's messages as He keeps in the Word and eyes on the Lord) but from so many individuals I encounter at church and not at church who leaned either far left or far right. (including, I might add, relatives and friends) This scripture helped me see more clearly and not take it quite so hard when I hear things overly slanted in one direction or other. It is: Proverbs 27-28 "Do not turn to the right or the left: keep your foot from evil." And, of course, as always my favorite: "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." Psalm 119:105. And, the words of Jesus: "By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit." Matthew 7:16-17 (NIV)

My point was simply that there is a question about what to expect of a country where a minority, I would guess maybe 15-20 percent are believers who have any interest in living as such.
As Christians we should already know you can't by an act of will behave as a Godly person. It requires repentance and faith in Christ. But so much of the church are counting on the government, especially the Supreme Court to accomplish what should be the effect of our being salt and light by getting legislation that makes people behave, or restricts them from misbehaving.

Here is something to consider. If we (Christians) are a holy nation of Priests that surpass ethniticity, social status, boarders and color of skin, then we are subject to Gods will and Gods laws. We cannot, nor is it our place to impose our covenant upon those who are not within Gods covenant. Best we can do is invite them into the Kingdom.

In effect, Roe vs Wade as well as other laws are not and should not be the laws that regulate our behavior. If getting a heavy ticket for speeding in a construction zone is the primary reason one adheres to the speed limit, it shows ones lack of concern for others. Same goes for Roe vs. Wade. Laws cannot change a heart.

The laws we follow are written on our hearts, and we do not have hearts of stone. This means we assist single mothers and financially support their children if they are unable to do so. Yes, there will be those that take advantage of our generosity, but the vast majority wont.

We teach the sanctity of life and view a single mother with child out of wedlock as brave and courageous for taking on the stigma and task of keeping her child. We surround her, and support her instead of condemning her and excommunication her. Our churches should be a refuge and a support system for them, both spiritually and financially but most of all, communally.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the body of Christ is individuals from all around the world that make the Kingdom of God. It's not a specific nation full of righteous and unrighteous people. If every person in the USA was righteous and the law was righteous then then could say it is a Christian nation.

Maybe it's because the word repent has been associated primarily with stopping a bad behavior with no direction or hope to fill its void. That's not even half of what the word repent means.

I think it's easy to get fixated on telling the world how wrong it is, but we make little to no effort to help them walk toward what is right. I think main stream Christianity has lost its salt because there is a lack of compassion and understanding which has been replaced with an authoritative finger.

I view ethics as rules we live by, but morals are ingrained within our hearts.
