"We Gotta Leave The Zone...The Comfort Zone!"

Matthew 28:16-20

We would all agree that we desire to minister to the lost. We want to have an affect on people’s lives in a positive way and share with them the love of Christ. None of us would say we don’t have a desire to do that. But the way we live our lives in these comfort zones, I can’t help but think the world sees that and wonders why we say one thing and do another.

We have great thoughts, ideas and intentions of saving the lost. But when it comes down to the nitty gritty, we have the hardest time actually getting out to minister to the lost because it takes us out of our comfort zones. We must leave our comfort zones if we are to be a part of changing lives for Christ.

This is one of the most powerful passages of Scripture we see in the New Testament. After Jesus’ resurrection, He tells His disciples they have a responsibility and a mission. Jesus is not leaving them with an easy task. They are called to win the lost. We are called to win the lost!

I am often scared to get out of my comfort zone. I want God to do amazing things through me and to me, but I am often so not willing to go the distance for Him to do so.

Most of us probably enjoy going to some kind of sporting event or some type of show where we are entertained. We enjoy being spectators, do we not? We enjoy watching a game or watching an entertaining show. It’s fun to just sit back and relax to watch a show. With a game, it’s fun to root on your team and give support. Now, what if someone from the game or from the show came out and grabbed you from your seat and said, “Let’s go, you’re on!â€. Whoa! Would we be a little scared? Of course. Being pulled from the safety of being the spectator to actually being involved in the action! Completely different scenario!

Even though that may bring a laugh to some of us, it really portrays the truth with how we live our lives. We tend to want to be spectators and not be involved in the action of what Christ calls us to do in the world around us. We see things happen and pass us by and we just move on with life. Somehow, I think we expect others to take care of the dirty business because either we are busy or we just don’t have the desire to step out of the comfort zone.

If we are going to win the lost, we gotta leave our comfort zones.

If only open witnessing really was a game. It's not though:

"16 I am sending you out like sheep among wolves." (Matthew 10:16 NIV1984)

I think that's why Paul tells us this:

"I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you." (Romans 12:3 NIV1984)

Don't do anything you're not equipped to do. As one who has been very active witnessing in the work place, it's not a game. You'll stir up very powerful demons that hold unbelievers fast in their unbelief and who will cause them to trouble you for much more time than the time you spend witnessing to them. So unless you're equipped to deal with that don't do it flippantly.

To every one who has the calling and gifting to get out of the trenches and hit the battlefield this post will be a challenge, not a deterrent to the work of taking the gospel to the street. For the rest of us it's not an excuse to not walk in your gift, or share your testimony. It's a warning to do that in the safety of your own calling, and faith to walk in it.

Jesus gives a commission to those in Matthew 28 that are Spiritually equipped to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the nations, but not everyone is prepared to do so because they are not equipped yet or as the OP do not want to come out of their comfort zone to be equipped by God. As Jethro said there are many powerful demons out there as even I have witnessed them in others that tried to come against me, but fail for I go out with that power and authority of God by allowing the Holy Spirit go before me.

I saw these demons so much when I use to go into the prisons by myself to teach the word to the inmates. Sometimes I was one on one with the inmates or gathered as a group in the Chapel and if I did not go through those doors without being Spiritually equipped with Gods power and authority and be prayed up those demons would have eaten me alive. Demons know what power and authority one is under and again, if you are not Spiritually equipped then do not go out into the world.

There are other areas of ministry you can get into like that of the ministry of helps as you can help meet whatever the need is for those of your own community. Even giving a smile to a stranger is showing that love of Christ for it might brighten up their day. God can use us in so many ways, but it's up to us to be used by God.

I agree with you. When we become so comfortable we hate to lose it. When the Good Samaritan saw the wounded man, he could have walked on. We must each ask, Am I willing to forego something and do something for others. I realise that people in prison need ministering to. I have visited the local prison on two occasions. We all must be willing to let others know of Jesus how he set us free from sin. We have to let them see how he has influenced our lives. Let them see there is hope in this dark world of sin. WE MUST FIND TIME. As the hymn writer wrote, The night comes when no man can world.

Thanks for posting.
