The discipline has a great deal to say about the psychology/neurology of belief in God on top of the well known ideas regarding humanity's origins. In that respect, his expertise in his field does have something to legitimately contribute to conversations on the topic that no other field could provide. Theologians and philosophers have different perspectives that are legitimate in their own right as well, but that doesn't preclude science from exploring such a fundamentally important issue.

That...and because the media, government, and other faiths, would NOT tolerate attacks such as these against any other target!

Plus, Christianty, itself, is so fragmented, they can't unite into a force capable of properly coping with the situation, without abandoning the denominational dogma which is critical to their own existence.

Yes, Christianity is fragmented. How can 78.4% of the United States unite to cope with the situation? I mean, 20.7% of the United States isn't Christian!! That's an overwhelmingly huge number! The 239,817,240 (roughly) Christians can't possibly compete with all 64,566,180 of those heathen Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, and atheists!
And not to mention the United Kingdom! A whole 28.4 of the U.K. is not Christian! What a catastrophe!

Christianity is not fragmented, at least not where the God Delusion was really being promoted and read. I have met some Christians who claim Christianity is a minority and is constantly being persecuted. Well, maybe in the past, but Christianity is currently the world's largest religion. The world is about one third Christian out of countless other religions.

Please don't say Christianity is "fragmented" or "can't unite." It's not true, and you are lying to yourself, to put it bluntly.

And to say that the media, government, and other faiths wouldn't tolerate attacks on other targets is untrue as well.

The religions of U.S. presidents: Baptist (3), Congregationalist (1), Disciples of Christ (3), Dutch Reformed (2), Episcopalian (12), Methodist (4), Presbyterian (8), Quaker (2), Roman Catholic (1), Unitarian (4), United Church of Christ (1)

All of which are branches of Christianity.

The religions of European leaders are primarily Christian. For statistics, look it up.

I don't think the governments of the more powerful parts of the world would care as much if other faiths were "targeted."

Besides two tiny countries, South America is over 80% Christian.
Besides a few small countries, Europe is over 50% Christian (this includes Russia, which is over 70%).
Australia is over 50% Christian.
The entire bottom half of Africa is all over 40% Christian.
All of North America and Central America are over 60% Christian.

To say Christianity is "fragmented" or "can't unite" is completely false.

The God Delusion really was a mean spirited book. It was meant as a lighthearted near comedy book that preaches to the choir. It isn't the sort of thing to deconvert hardcore Christians, but rather the much more moderate wishy washy "I go to church on holidays" Christian.
