Were you there when they crucified our Lord?

Yes, we were all there from the foundation of the world even before we were formed in our mothers womb whether we believe in Christ or not. It's hard for me at times to even fathom such a great love for someone else that one would go through such scourging and suffering. Even as a child of God I went through a period of doubt at one time at my weakest point in time and found myself questioning many things of God. The one thing I questioned Jesus about was that I truly wanted to know what he physically looked like on the cross as I wanted to know exactly what he went through for his love for me when I could not even love myself at the time. As I laid there the Holy Spirit engulfed me and as a movie playing in front of me showed me very graphically what Jesus looked like hanging on that cross. (be careful for what you ask for) All I could see was his flesh torn apart from the whipping he took for us and blood running from the top of his head to the ground below. It was so graphic that all I could do was cry. From that point on I finally understood the love of Christ and the meaning of laying your life down for the love of another.

Yes, I was there - John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Ephesians 1:1-14

1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus:

2 Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;

9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:

10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:

11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

(Two Points are: if you do not truly know Jesus or are in doubt, just ask him to reveal himself to you and be still long enough for Jesus to do so, (maybe not the way I did) and second point is draw on that strength that is Christ Jesus to stand against those who persecute you as we love even our enemies and need to pray for them.

There is a hymn which goes something like:

'Were you there when they crucified my Lord?'

A solemn question about moral responsibility.

And the opposite, corresponding truth of justification is wondrous, also: God sees the believer in the Lord Jesus as having received imputed righteousness by faith.

Blessings.

Oh, yes. That's one of the greats!

This topic also reminds me of another hymn: "Ah Holy Jesus". One of the verses goes like this:

Who was the guilty? Who brought this upon thee? Alas, my treason, Jesus, hath undone thee! 'Twas I, Lord Jesus, I it was denied thee; I crucified thee.

It give me chills sometimes just singing this, reading it, or thinking about it.

Another relevant verse, I think, is Romans 5:8: But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.(KJV)

Thanks for this topic, for_his_glory!:)

Yes, thank-you, for_his_glory! :)

I am too young to have been there.

Adullam, yes, you were there as even though none of us were physically there to witness the crucifixion of Christ, we were truly in His heart as Christ laid His life down for a ransom so all generations may be saved by Gods grace and mercy if we only call upon the name of the Lord to be saved from our iniquity.

Romans 10:9, 10
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

That song has been running through my mind the last few days even though I haven't heard it for a long time and thus this topic of the love of Christ.
