What are some true workouts that target over hang belly and water retaining to flat abs? Every you tube or TV tells different ways. They say they lied do this not that. It is confusing. Have you got good abs and how did you get there? Stay there?

Workouts can target muscles, but they cannot target specific areas of fat. So, you can work your abs, for example, but that will make them stronger and perhaps bigger, depending on how hard you work them, but it won’t specifically burn belly fat. Having less belly fat only comes from having less overall body fat. The best way to get rid of fat is to eat healthy, eat fewer calories than you burn, and exercise. It’s also worth looking into intermittent fasting (look up Dr. Jason Fung on YouTube). To maintain abs requires healthy eating and exercise.

For exercise, HIIT seems to generally get good results for people looking to lose weight, but so does general weightlifting. The last I heard, cardio on its own isn’t actually that good for burning fat; it doesn’t burn nearly as many calories as people think. But it does have other benefits, as does getting strong. High VO2 max (from cardio) and high strength are both strongly correlated with longevity and lower all cause mortality. Also, both significantly help prevent, or at least slow the rate of, age related cognitive decline and degeneration (such as dementia). Just for those last two benefits alone—a healthier, longer life and increased cognition—everyone should be engaging in regular exercise and strength training. Plus, it just makes you feel better overall.

And, no, I don’t have abs. It’s not a goal of mine and I’m trying to gain muscle, so I have an increased caloric intake.

I have a high metabolism, but I look like a skinny pregnant woman. I've been doing light exercise. I do not need to loose more weight. I have to be careful, but at the same time I have this hanging belly. I look bloated too. Guess I need to research more. It is just that everyone says something different. I don't know what to do. I know sit ups aren't going to make much a difference. It is a waste of time. If you all know much about it please let me know. I'm a mess. I use to be so in shape. I guess it is a Part of aging. I just want to target my mid.

People have assumed that I am pregnant. I'm a skinny girl. Not pregnant though. Blah. If I could have abs and not loose weight anywhere else that woykd be ideal. 😀

I forgot about this thread, sorry! Yes, aging does not make these things easier. Have you found any exercise you're interested in? Light exercise may not do too much. Even heavy exercise doesn't burn as many calories as people think; certainly not as much as I thought. Of course, any exercise is better than none, so at least keep doing what you're doing. But, you might want to try pushing things a bit more and move towards more moderate exercise. As long you know your physical limits or consult with your doctor.

It's hard work, but if it was easy, everyone would be huge and/or ripped. I like the challenge of trying to push myself more and lift heavier or lift the same amount for more repetitions. If you want something that will help you put on some muscle, lose some fat, and feel great, I highly recommend weightlifting, powerlifting, olympic lifting (there are differences) or something of that nature. Again, if your doctor gives the okay. It is pretty hard for most women to get looking bulky with muscle, so that shouldn't be a concern.

If you want some inspiration:

I absolutely love those types of stories. It just blows me away that some of these women started lifting in their 60s and 70s and, at the moment, can possibly lift more than me in some lifts (depends on the number of repetitions). So impressive.

Not good when people assume you're pregnant. People should never be assuming that anyway. I would skinny-fat if I didn't workout, but I do have a small spare tire where my abs should be. lol

Lol! Funny thing is, manual labour hurts me in bad ways. Even a few years ago when I helped my stepdad wire his basement, just standing on a ladder and reaching caused pain. With working out, I can largely prevent injury by controlling the movement and keeping my form strict, but with manual labour strict form goes out the window and strains usually ensue. Well, that’s my excuse anyway. :lol

I've been contemplating which budget-friendly gym to join, and I can't seem to decide between Planet Fitness and Chuze Fitness. Both offer attractive deals, but I'd love to hear your experiences and opinions to help me make an informed decision.

Planet Fitness is known for its "Judgment Free Zone" and no-frills approach, which suits my basic fitness needs. However, I've heard mixed reviews about the equipment maintenance.

Chuze Fitness, on the other hand, boasts a wide range of classes and a more upscale environment, but I'm concerned it might be pricier.

Believe it or not-I am still gymning and have beetroot juice with my smoothie-banana, nuts, peanutbutter and a spoonful of Creatine-I only eat 3x a day-having my oats in the morning and pasta and fish midday-the same round about 6 or 7 PM.

You don't have to do "heavy" workouts-lightweights or bands are just fine to stay functional.
Me-I go crazy!

How do you stay functional?
The older I get the more I realize how "off balance" I am.
Lol!

Thanks. I've been about good smoothies. People say breakfast is the most important part the day and that oatmeal is a healthy one. Whst us creature? I take omega 3. Yes I have been stretching everyday and using small extra exceersizes to help my knees. I like some carsio, but I can't go through the whole workout. I don't want to over do it. I know when I need a break. Abs ar hard so I'll take any advice on that. So many people say do this not that and it is confusing.

Get on your back and lift your knees toward your chest-alternative-"hang" from something and lift knees to chest-I have learned this from by black brothers.

Hey All,
I was 280lbs when I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I am 6'2" and large framed, so I carried it well. I still looked fat but every part of me was big and solid. And I was still able to move well.

Then I cut myself at work one day (by accident) and should have been bleeding bad. But I wasn't. The blood just pooled where the cut was. Clue number 1. Then I developed foot ulcers that would not heal. Clue number 2. I went to the doctor and found out about the type 2. My sugars were over 300, and my A1C was over 13.

I was given all the usual medications. I was 49 at the time. (I don't like using drugs of any kind. ) So I learned about the disease. Blood sugar can be controlled by diet. I learned to eat the right foods at the right time of day. I learned when not to eat. I also started to exercise regularly, even religiously. Slowly but surely the weight stated to drop. Sometimes a pound a week. Sometimes nothing. But a year later I was down to 250-255. (My weight could fluctuate 4-5 lbs. a day mostly based on how much food and fluids I took in.) The second year was not as successful. At the end of the second year, I was 230-235. I maintained that weight for about five years. I did heavy lifting as part of my job. I needed the muscle mass to do it. As a result of my weight loss, however, I no longer needed diabetes medication. My A1C was in the 6-7 range.

After I retired, (the foot ulcers kept reoccurring) I knew I had to cut my calorie intake because I was not working so hard. So I reevaluated my situation, and figured out a food plan that would work for me. Long story short, I m 65 now and at my weigh in today I was 205. That is 10lbs less than when I graduated from high school.

You can get there. But there is no magic pill. It is science. What goes in vs. what comes out. It is a long hard slog of a fight. There will be setbacks and discouragements along the way. What matters the most is how bad you want this. My reason was I hate taking drugs when I can do something without them.
I hope something in here helps you Citrus. (Citrus, well orange you sweet. Sorry, had to do the pun.)
Keep walking everybody. May God bless,
Taz

I've managed to achieve and maintain decent abs through a mix of core-focused workouts and a balanced diet.Exercises like planks, crunches, and leg raises have been my go-tos, but here's the secret – consistency is key. You can't expect instant results; it takes time and dedication. Now, about that pesky water retention – staying hydrated is crucial. It might sound counterintuitive, but the more water you drink, the less your body holds onto it.
