NO!NO! don't compare deer meat to Prime rib.
Ewww...I have had it.Don't like it.It tastes wild to me.Now....Prime rib is my favorite. That's what I'm talking about....yum...
It was actually antelope reba ate, I doubt if antelope tastes like venison by the sounds of it.

Have you had elk? If so, do they taste similar?
I haven't had antelope, but with that being said, I'm not sure it could beat elk. Elk is the best meat, very good. I never liked venison, it's too gamey, although I don't mind it in stew or chili.I have had both meats. They do not taste similar at all. Antelope meat is very good meat, but if I had my choice, it'd be Elk meat, hands down. It doesn't taste like venison either.
You know, now that you bring this up, I think I've heard this before. When you shoot an animal, it runs off to find a place to lay down and lick it's wounds. It may have been hit in a vital spot, and is dead on it's feet so to speak. But it needs time to bleed out and die. If it dies quietly with no one there, chances are good that the meat will not be gamey. That's why they say don't chase the Deer when you shoot it.
Ok, so you don't want to have to chase it for 5 miles...then leave it alone at first! If he's unaware of your presence, he'll lay down, calm down, and die. If you come tramping through the brush and scare it, then the arenaline will pump it up and then he will run 5 miles...Give it some time.

I always thought it was the white talon (is that what you call it), being left on the meat. I just thought you had to make sure you get all that off the meat. I've heard of some people soaking it in milk to get rid of that gamey taste.
I'll remember that though.
