I would argue that Catholics and Protestants share much more in common then we tend to think, it is just that we are not very good at explaining and understanding theology well enough to see that the other guy is not so far away from what we believe. Much confusion, for example, is found in definitions of "saved". To the Catholic, it mean something other than to the typical Protestant. Thus, the two will argue, not comprehending that they actually agree, when they explain things better...
