What do you think about new technology?

In the 1900's human being used to be pleased by little things, nowadays human being ain't pleased by what they do currently have. Human being are 'addicted' to the present technology and when the new smart phone comes out, it's a must have.

I'm pleased to what do I have, I've got an old mobile phone that is sustainable, and I just use it for calling people. Why would I need a computer to my mobile phone, it's just for calling and the computer is for computer.

Why, why everyone has a smart phone and has got this new techonology thing. I'm not even suitable to Internet because I think that someone is spying on us and I'm pretty sure that there's something conspiracy between the smart phones and the new hi-tech technology. Bring back the 1900's, :pray

What do you think about it? :shame

Having grown up in a family that pretty much danced around the poverty level I have never been one to buy the latest and greatest. Which has served me well. I agree that many people in our society puts too much status on how quickly they buy the latest technology. I usually wait until the dust settles and look for what is getting the best reviews in the way of reliability and durability.

Arguably, back in the 1900's they actually had the same kind of thing going on among the upper echelons of society, it was just at a smaller scale because of how slowly technology progressed at the time. There will always be an aspect of society that will tie "worth" to how much you own, and how soon you buy it.

What kind of conspiracy? And who would be spying on you?

The Government. Even Angry Birds admitted that they're spying the players. Where-ever you download the application, you'll be located and stuff. It's weird stuff, look out in Google Conspiracy theories, facebook, google, Iphone.

It's scary =(

I could learn to live very well in the last century and a half ago (late 1800's). This is evidenced by certain strange preoccupations I have such as gnomonics and maybe a little horology. :lol I'm more interested in geometry and can comfortably still use a slide rule even though I was trained as an electronic technician.

Also, years ago people envisioned highly advanced technological inventions (as shown on any sci-fi movie), but what I noticed is that they still had the idea of individual devices in that a computer was a computer, a picture phone was a picture phone, a house-cleaning robot was a house cleaning robot and so forth. What they did not envision was communication between the objects and technological inventions that could multitask. For example, an iphone is a phone, it plays games, it can navigate, etc, whereas they once envisioned separate objects for each task. That's where the vision fell short IMO.

I am somewhat in the old school of "separate things" thought yet. I rather have a GPS as just a GPS, a portable computer device as just that, and a cell phone by itself when I travel for example. I am still uncomfortable with any communication device more advanced than the Motorola Razr. But an iphone can do all that together. But that is the direction we are definitely going.

But compared to growing up in the 60's, the stuff we have now (even separate) is far more advanced than a simple television and radio set, the most advanced things back then. As a matter of fact, I grew up when the older generations still had some of their artifacts around yet such as a cabin we once owned had a wood burning stove and kerosene lights. So I am happy with it all. But today's youth are spoiled. Anyone gen x or younger do not remember a time when they did not grow up with a computer or computer gaming device, so it is all taken for granted.

Wanting the latest and greatest technology is nothing new. What's new is the rate at which technology is advancing. People are never satisfied.

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5
